Hogwarts: I Am an Exemplary Wizard

Chapter 784: Chapter 697: Planning and Scheming, the Choice of Hero

Previously, in the Giant Tribe, the conditions were limited; they all lived in tents. Every time I tried to sleep, I was either woken by the giant thunder-like snoring or kept awake by the sounds of fights and roars.

Now, having returned to Ottery St Catchpole, Kael skipped dinner and went straight to his room.

Kael slept until noon before leaving his room for a light meal.

However, in the afternoon, he didn’t choose to stay at home; instead, he went directly to the Ministry of Magic.

When he arrived at the main hall, Chris happened to return from outside.

”Why are you here at this time?”

While waiting for the lift, Chris asked, ”Don’t you want to rest a little longer?”

”No need for that. A morning is enough.” Kael shook his head and said, ”How’s the situation with the Dementors?”

”It’s quite troublesome.” Chris sighed. ”Everyone who can cast the Patronus Charm has been sent out, but it’s still not enough.

”Speaking of which, it’s really fortunate you had Cedric come to work at the Ministry of Magic. He’s been a great help these days.”

At this moment, the lift arrived, and they both stepped inside.

A person was running toward them from afar, gesturing as if trying to get them to wait.

Yet, both tacitly had no intention of helping; the lift doors quickly closed.

”How’s the situation over by the giants?” Chris asked softly once the lift started moving.

”It’s been resolved.” Kael said, ”The giants had a major fight to elect the new Gringott, so we shouldn’t worry about them participating in wars for a while.”

”That’s good. If the giants join the battle, it wouldn’t be good news for us,” Chris said. ”Oh, and remember not to tell your mom; she doesn’t know you went with Newt to find the giants.”

”I understand...” Kael nodded.

The lift first stopped at the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures’ floor.

Chris stepped out, thought for a moment, and turned back to say, ”I suggest not visiting Arthur or his entire floor... Fred and George have been asking about when you would return.”

”I know.” Kael rubbed his forehead.

To be honest, he had planned to hide out for a while.

Soon, the lift stopped again.

”First floor...”

Kael stepped out of the lift, walked forward, and stopped in front of the grandest golden door in the middle of the corridor.

The Minister’s Office.

Kael knocked on the door...

”Come in.”

The room wasn’t as large as imagined, but it was well-furnished. Like Hogwarts’ Headmaster’s Office, portraits of past Ministers of Magic hung on the walls.

However, they all had their eyes closed as if asleep...though Kael knew that portraits don’t need to sleep.

Fudge was sitting at a massive rowan wood desk, and upon seeing Kael enter, he smiled and asked:

”Oh, Kael, have you finished everything?”

”Yes, it’s all completed,” Kael said.

”How was it, didn’t encounter any danger, did you?” Fudge stood up and said, ”I initially disagreed with you and Mr. Scamander handling the giant issue together, since you haven’t graduated yet, but Dumbledore insisted you were up for it.

”You know, he’s pretty stubborn about certain things; not even I can persuade him.”

”Luckily, with Mr. Scamander around, we didn’t encounter any danger,” Kael said.

”But why did the information I received differ from what you said?” Fudge’s expression turned serious. ”Letting a student who hasn’t graduated face Gringott alone—if Diana knew, she’d smash my office.

”I personally don’t agree with you taking on such dangerous tasks either.”

”Sorry, Minister,” Kael said. ”I was too impulsive, thinking I could handle it. You know my school performance has been consistently excellent.”

”Giants don’t appear in Hogwarts classrooms,” Fudge said sternly, but quickly broke into a smile.

”But you did it, didn’t you? A sixteen-year-old student single-handedly defeated Gringott, avoiding a major disaster for the Magic Realm—this feat is enough to earn you a First-Class Order of Merlin.

”In fact, that’s what I did, but those old relics of the Merlin Knight Order seem more inclined to believe it was Mr. Scamander who did it, while you only offered minor assistance.”

”It can’t be helped,” Kael said. ”Besides, the giant issue couldn’t have been resolved without Mr. Scamander.”

”True, you’re right...” Fudge said, though he seemed indifferent, ”I’ll continue to push for your recognition on this. Now can you tell me about the events that unfolded over the past days? I’d like some detailed recounting.”

”Of course, Minister.”

Subsequently, Kael spent an hour recounting the past days’ events to Fudge.

There wasn’t much to hide. Newt had stated on the first day that his use of the Portkey was entirely legal, meaning the Ministry of Magic was aware of the matter from the start.

Including when he killed the giant Gringott...there was no one else around back then, so it’s not hard to guess who informed Fudge.

Repeating it now was essentially reporting back.

An hour later, Fudge muttered, ”It seems Dumbledore didn’t keep it under wraps...”

”Minister, what did you just say?”
