Hogwarts: I Am an Exemplary Wizard

Chapter 769: Chapter 692: War Machine, Periculum Leads the Way

Ms. Maxime couldn’t understand why Hagrid was so happy, nor how he managed to connect this ferocious Fire Dragon in front of them with the idea of a ”good kid.”

Since when does anyone’s good kid grow to fifteen feet tall and breathe fire with every breath?

She had certainly never seen such a thing, not even heard of it.

Meanwhile, Norbert let out a low growl the moment he saw Newt’s Hungarian Horntail... and the other one responded in kind.

As far as Fire Dragons go, both Norwegian Ridgebacks and Hungarian Horntails are famous for their bad tempers— the type who might start a fight lasting three days and nights just because you glanced their way as you passed.

This was only natural instinct.

Besides, when Norbert was young, he’d once been beaten up by this Hungarian Horntail. Now, seeing it again, all those unpleasant memories came flooding back.

Norbert’s growls grew louder and louder, as if he might pounce and bite at any moment.

The Hungarian Horntail, on the other hand, looked down at Norbert from above, apparently sporting a hint of disdain on its face.

It was still in its prime— it didn’t care at all for a brash youngster like Norbert.

”Alright, Hog, we still have serious business to do.” Newt simply patted the Hungarian Horntail’s wing, and it immediately turned its head away.

On the other side, Kael had soothed the restless Norbert as well.

”What should we do?”

”Just leave it to them,” Newt said. ”Two Fire Dragons are more than enough to throw the Giant Race into chaos.”

No sooner had he finished than the Hungarian Horntail flew out first, and Norbert spread his wings, refusing to be outdone.

The two Fire Dragons charged one after the other toward the moving Giant Race.

Because they weren’t hiding, the giants saw it immediately, stopped right where they were, waving clubs and giant axes at the sky, bellowing loudly.

But the Fire Dragons didn’t give a damn— no matter how loudly the giants roared, they still couldn’t fly; what was the point?

As soon as they approached, two searing torrents of Dragon Flame poured down over the giants’ heads— laying down sheer firepower suppression.

In an instant, the already-disorganized ranks of giants became even more chaotic. Trying to dodge the rain of fire, the giants began to shove one another, scrambling for safer ground.

One giant, at least twenty feet tall, helmeted and wielding a long-handled giant axe, bellowed in an attempt to restore order to his tribe, but it was barely effective.

Frustrated, he grabbed a sharpened tree trunk and hurled it with all his might at the dragons above.

But Norbert twisted aside deftly, dodging it with ease— and immediately blasted a huge ball of fire straight at him.

Soon enough, the giants were scattered everywhere, and under the dragons’ deliberate herding, the centaurs had been thoroughly separated from the main group.

By now, the giants were gradually regaining their composure from the initial panic. Some of the brighter ones, copying what the centaurs had done, began hurling their weapons with all their strength.

This time, dodging became much harder for the Fire Dragons, and more trouble arose as flashes of magical light—clearly Death Eaters mixing in—started flying toward them as well.

”That’s enough.”

On the hilltop, Newt, who’d been watching the battlefield, spoke softly: ”There are too many giants—this will do.”

He whistled, and the Hungarian Horntail seemed to understand, wheeling about and flying back—giving Norbert’s head a hard smack with its wing on its way, reminding him it was time to retreat.

After all that, Newt vanished from the spot, Apparating to stand before the giant Gringott Centaur. 𝘧𝓇ℯℴ𝓂

”Stop!”

He gathered the dirt and stones on the ground together, forming a ”mud giant” more than ten feet tall—successfully grabbing the centaur’s attention.

”Are you planning to start a war with the wizards?” he shouted, his voice echoing throughout the valley.

”Go back, return to your tribe...”

But what answered him was a furious roar and a sweeping giant axe — the ”mud giant” was chopped clean in two.

Moments later, a red and a green flash shot over from not far away, shattering the rest of the mud body to powder.

”Looks like diplomacy isn’t working...” Kael appeared just in time, catching Newt as he nearly stumbled.

Ms. Maxime arrived too, wand in hand, scanning the area warily.

”Are you alright, Mr. Scamander?”

”I’m fine,” Newt answered, sighing. ”I really didn’t want to do this, but Gringott Centaur won’t give up war...”

Newt waved his wand, and earth and stones started to gather up again.

”I’ll lure him away... Kael, Ms. Maxime, help me cast the Mist Spell—make the area as big as possible. I can’t handle too many giants at once...”

”Alright!” Ms. Maxime instantly waved her wand.

A layer of white mist rose over the valley; in the distance, the giants gradually faded to silhouettes.

But the next second, a sudden gust of wind thinned the mist considerably, and they heard an exasperated shouting voice.

”What are you all standing around for? Go help!”

A few giants immediately ran in their direction.

Kael froze for an instant, then quickly reached into his Transfiguration Lizard Skin Bag, pulled out a smooth round bead, and crushed it in his hands.

Billowing white thick fog erupted from the broken bead, covering the entire valley within seconds. In an instant, the whole world seemed to lose its color—the efficiency far outdid Ms. Maxime’s spell.
