Hogwarts: I Am an Exemplary Wizard

Chapter 770: Chapter 692: War Machine, Periculum (Part 2)

Moreover, this fog... the wind doesn’t blow it away.

”Oh... what is this thing?” Newt blinked, somewhat taken aback.

He had initially prepared for a prolonged battle, but unexpectedly, in the blink of an eye, Kael brought him such a great surprise.

Giants originally have a poor sense of direction; this level of thick fog is enough to make them lose their way.

”Ah, the Mist Treasure Pearl, I bought it from Hogsmeade,” Kael said. ”Unfortunately, it’s the last one. I wonder if Dervish & Banges still has any new ones.” ℯℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

”If they do, you could buy a few more,” Newt said. He took a deep breath and quickly relied on the scent to find the direction of the Giant Centaur.

”Alright, you’d better stay far away now.”

”Wait,” Kael interrupted him, quietly asking, ”Can you let me do it?”

”What do you mean?”

”I mean, leave this giant to me,” Kael said. ”Since it’s about adapting to war, I can’t just do nothing.”

”No way, it’s a giant. You don’t have enough experience...”

Before Newt could finish speaking, Kael had already swung his wand.

The stones on the ground turned into a long spear, which suddenly thrust forward.

The spear seemed to collide with something, making a muffled sound.

”Roar!”

A roar came from not far away.

”Muffliato!”

To prevent the giant from locating them by sound, Kael used another charm.

The Muffliato charm fills the ears of those outside a certain range with an indistinguishable buzzing sound.

Kael had tried it when he was bored before, and this charm was effective on Norbert as well because it doesn’t directly attack but artificially creates an environment, similar to the Mist Spell, but targeting hearing.

Therefore, the Fire Dragon’s scales had no effect, and it should be the same for the giant.

It’s hard to deny how perfectly this anti-eavesdropping charm pairs with the Mist Treasure Pearl.

At this moment, Newt no longer opposed him, looking at Kael and asking, ”What do you plan to do?”

”The best choice is, of course, the Fiendfyre Curse,” Kael casually said. ”When dealing with Fantastic Beasts, this charm is even stronger than the Killing Curse.”

Even Newt had to admit, Kael was right.

For some large Fantastic Beasts, the Killing Curse’s effect isn’t particularly strong... even decades ago, that Dark Wizard or Dumbledore couldn’t directly kill an adult Fire Dragon with a single spell.

Not to mention Kael, who is not yet seventeen.

But Fiendfyre is different...

The monster created by Fiendfyre mimics and enhances over time, and it’s the kind without a limit; given enough time, it can easily devour all the giants in this entire valley.

”If possible, I wouldn’t recommend you do that.”

Newt said, ”Although Fiendfyre belongs to Dark Magic, using it too frequently is not a good thing. It will unknowingly addict you to that powerful destructive strength until one day, you find you can no longer control it.

”Of course, if the situation is urgent, it’s a different matter.”

”I know.” Kael nodded, ”That’s why I have another plan.”

He looked up, seeing the giant’s silhouette faintly in the thick fog.

”Stupefy!”

Kael tentatively swung his wand, and unsurprisingly, the Stunning Spell bounced off after hitting the giant.

Their skin is as hard as stone... no, even harder than stone.

Nonetheless, this action also angered the giant, who noticed Kael’s position, and with a swoosh, swung the long-handled axe in his hand, landing less than a foot in front of Kael.

Kael retreated while trying other magic.

But neither the Knockback Jinx, Diffindo, The Blasting Curse, nor the more powerful Sectumsempra had any effect.

Sectumsempra, which can easily cut through stone, only made the giant cry out in pain before continuing to wield the long-handled axe as if nothing happened.

Of course, this might be because Kael hadn’t found the right position... but there was no way around it; the surrounding white fog restricted not only the giant but also Kael.

He could barely make out the giant’s rough outline and couldn’t precisely locate its vulnerable spots.

”Confringo!”

After casting another Blasting Curse, Kael gazed at the still-unscathed giant, panting heavily.

After twenty minutes of stalemate, Kael realized he couldn’t break through the giant’s defenses at all, and instead, he was breaking down himself.

He had anticipated the giant might be hard but not this hard, as if no spell worked on it.

The giant seemed frustrated, too, roaring and swinging its axe as if swatting at a pesky insect.

This time, Kael didn’t reinforce the Muffliato charm, mainly because, by now, he didn’t even know where he was. He only knew that following the giant in this chase-and-escape had taken twenty minutes, probably far from the previous location.

At this moment, a creature resembling a furry Quaffle suddenly jumped onto Kael’s shoulder, followed by Newt’s appearance.

”How does it feel...” he asked with amusement, ”This is the first time he’s seen Kael in a pinch; it’s quite interesting.”
