Hogwarts: I Am an Exemplary Wizard

Chapter 723: Chapter 676: Professions in the Magic Realm (2)

”I know it’s hard, but I have to do it...” Hagrid picked up the bucket and continued to dig out the wood chips, ”He’s too small to live in the giant tribe, only in the Forbidden Forest can he possibly survive...”

Hagrid’s eyes brimmed with tears, ”He’s my brother, I can’t just abandon him.”

”Your brother?” Kael said, not expecting Hagrid would suddenly reveal this to him.

”Actually, he’s my half-brother, he’s a pure-blooded giant...” Hagrid wiped his face roughly with his sleeve, ”Speaking of which, I should thank you.”

”Thank me for what?” Kael thought about it, he hadn’t really helped Hagrid with anything recently.

”Yes, last time at the Three Broomsticks, I heard Professor McGonagall say it was you who found a way to drive away Umbridge.” Hagrid’s tone carried a hint of relief.

”Honestly, when that annoying person was still at school, I felt I could be fired at any moment, she hinted many times.

”I can hardly imagine if I left the school, who would take care of Grawp? He’s just a child of only sixteen feet, weak and helpless, how would he survive in the Forbidden Forest.”

Kael frowned, trying to accept the novel combination of ’sixteen feet’ and ’weak and helpless’.

But Hagrid didn’t notice Kael’s reaction, and continued: ”I previously thought about whether to entrust him to you for care...”

”No problem.” Kael almost blurted out: ”I happen to have nothing going on recently, I’d be happy to help.”

”Oh, it’s not needed now.” Hagrid waved his hand, ”That’s why I said I thank you, now that annoying Umbridge has left the school, I won’t be fired, and I can continue to take care of Grawp.

”Besides, I wouldn’t want to trouble you... I know you’re about to have exams.”

”Trust me, Hagrid, I wouldn’t feel troubled at all.” Kael said sincerely, ”You don’t need to be polite with me.”

He had never seen a giant, including in Newt’s case, so it was a rare opportunity.

”I understand your kindness, but... no.” Hagrid thought for a moment, then shook his head, ”He doesn’t know his own strength, he might hurt you, I can’t let you take that risk.”

As he spoke, Hagrid slightly turned his head, glancing at a rope placed by his cabin.

Kael looked over as well, the rope was as thick as a wrist, similar to those used for transporting Fire Dragons at the Fire Dragon Reserve, but it was broken in the middle, with uneven ends as if forcibly torn.

”As you can see.” Hagrid explained, ”To prevent Grawp from running around in the Forbidden Forest and encountering dangerous places, I have to tie him up, but this rope clearly wasn’t sturdy enough, so I changed it to a thicker one.

”Now you understand how terrifying the strength of a pure-blood giant is, he might just lightly touch you, and you’d break a few bones.”

Regarding Hagrid’s worry, Kael didn’t really mind, as a wizard who’s always dealing with various dangerous magical creatures, a giant wouldn’t easily get to him.

But Hagrid still didn’t seem to want to take Kael to see Grawp.

Kael had no other options, the Forbidden Forest was so vast, without Hagrid leading the way, no one could find Grawp, even if he was an eye-catching giant.

Though it was a bit mean, Kael couldn’t help thinking, had he known, he’d have given Fudge the idea a few days later, maybe Hagrid would have been unable to resist telling him the place by then.

But now it’s useless to say these things, Hagrid’s attitude on certain matters was still very firm... By midday, Kael returned to the castle rather disappointed.

...

As the holidays passed day by day, the weather became increasingly clear, the warm breeze blowing on one’s body made people drowsy, but most couldn’t sleep, they had to force themselves to stay indoors doing homework, reviewing coursework, and making repeated trips to the library.

Under such conditions, even if Dementors came, they’d probably leave hungry.

Not until the holiday was about to end did something different finally appear in the castle.

A big pile of booklets, flyers, and notices about various wizard professions appeared on the table in the Hufflepuff Common Room, and the notice board also had a new announcement...

”Career Guidance?”

Kael looked at Professor McGonagall before him and asked, ”What does this mean.”

”It’s simple, to provide some opinions and tell fifth-year students what jobs they might suit.” Professor McGonagall handed a booklet to Kael, ”By sixth year, they can choose courses according to their interests.”

”Wait...” Kael held the booklet, ”But how come I didn’t get this in fifth grade.”

”Because collectively, including the headmaster, we thought you didn’t need to participate...” Professor McGonagall said without looking up, ”Of course, if you insist, it’s not too late now.”

”Alright, no need.” Kael said, ”Then why did you call me here, Professor.”

”To help, of course.” Professor McGonagall organized the booklets on the table, ”Every year many students want to work at the Ministry of Magic, and as Senior Ministerial Assistant at the Ministry of Magic, you have the responsibility to offer them some advice.

”Didn’t you also apply to help a few days ago?”

”When did I say I’d help...” Kael suddenly stopped, noticing Professor McGonagall’s smiling eyes, he wisely shut his mouth.

Indeed, a few days ago, to avoid doing homework, he used the Ministry of Magic as an excuse to get a practicing activity.

No wonder Professor McGonagall signed it so promptly, it was because of this.

”Alright, when.” Kael said.

”Now.” Professor McGonagall said.

”So soon?” Kael said, ”Don’t they need some time to think about what they want to do? The announcement was posted this morning, many should not have finished reading these booklets yet.”

”No worries, the timing is staggered.” Professor McGonagall said, ”Most guidance is after the holiday, but some want to quickly inquire about things they’re interested in...”

Just as Professor McGonagall finished speaking, someone knocked on the office door.

The visitor was a fifth-year Gryffindor girl, Kael found her familiar, but couldn’t recall her name.

She firmly wanted into the Ministry of Magic, but wavered between the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes and the Department of International Magical Cooperation.

”I suggest choosing the Department of International Magical Cooperation.” Professor McGonagall said, ”Your grades are comprehensive without any obvious weaknesses... Also, you speak French, right? This happens to meet the requirements of the Department of International Magical Cooperation.”

”Yes...” The witch nodded, hesitantly saying, ”But I feel the Accidents Department is more challenging, working there surely wouldn’t feel boring.”

Well, a standard Gryffindor.

Professor McGonagall did not immediately respond but looked at Kael.

”Actually, the Department of International Magical Cooperation isn’t boring.” Kael said, ”Of course, if you really want to choose the Accidents Department, you must obtain N.E.W.T. certificates in Charm and Transfiguration Class, and grades can’t be lower than ’Good’, that’s a strict requirement.

”So I suggest continuing to study these two courses in sixth year.”

The girl nodded excitedly and left after thanking.

A few minutes later, another person walked in.

He hesitated between going to St Mungo’s Hospital or the Wizard Bank.

This had nothing to do with Kael. While Professor McGonagall spoke, he opened the booklet in his hand.

Honestly, Kael was surprised to learn that the Magic Realm had so many different professions.

Gringotts Curse Breaker, offering exciting overseas working opportunities, requires proficiency in Transfiguration, Charm, and Arithmetic Divination.

Healer of St Mungo’s Hospital... Magic Potion, Herbs, Transfiguration, Charm, Defence Against the Dark Arts...

Muggle Liaison Officer... no special requirements, only needs a Muggle Studies certificate.

Apart from these, there are even more interesting ones.

Fungus Cultivation Industry

Owl Keeper

Broomstick Tester

Magic Potion Taster

Training Troll Security

...

Everything is covered, all kinds of professions exist, Kael even found the Fire Dragon Reserve brochure.

It featured more than a dozen lifelike Fire Dragons and a wizard riding a broomstick.

”Looking for a challenging job? Want to touch and conquer the most powerful creatures, soar the sky with them, and experience different scenery? If you think you’re strong enough, come join us...”

To be honest, this booklet was indeed appealing, Kael highly suspected Charlie might have looked at this before deciding to go to Romania.
