Hogwarts: I Am an Exemplary Wizard

Chapter 597: Chapter 595: Challenging the Ministry of Magic

Lucius and Karkaroff were feeling uneasy.

Framing Kael to get him expelled from Hogwarts was the first task Voldemort assigned to them after his resurrection.

Initially, they thought it was a sure thing, so they accepted the task without hesitation.

To ensure nothing went wrong, Lucius even spent a significant amount of gold to convince Fudge to lure Kael to the Ministry of Magic under an absurd pretense, intending to catch him off guard.

But why did the outcome differ from their expectations?

How could Kael’s wand lack records of casting the Fiendfyre Curse? There must have been a mistake... or perhaps the Fiendfyre Curse was yet to come.

Therefore, they naturally disagreed to halt the examination.

As if to dispel their hopes, Kael did not attempt to stop them either.

After the Periculum, several more spells emerged, but they were all ordinary spells commonly used.

Beads of sweat were already forming on Karkaroff’s forehead,

”Continue, continue!” he shouted.

Yet at this time, Kael pressed his hand onto his wand, immediately terminating the effect of Priori Incantatem.

”Headmaster Karkaroff, you’re being a bit shameless.” He said slowly: ”If you can’t find the spell you want, shall we spend an entire day or even a month here?

”I’m definitely fine with that, as there are still more than half a month till the term starts, lots of time to go around.

”But the issue is, others present are different, everyone has important matters to deal with daily, making them waste valuable time on such a dull game is a bit excessive.”

”You’re guilty!” Karkaroff said loudly, ”The next one must be the Fiendfyre Curse, you must be guilty, that’s why you dare not continue.”

Before Kael could speak, Amelia Bones sitting at the center plainly said:

”Please keep quiet, Mr. Igor Karkaroff, I believe the existing evidence is sufficient to show he has not used prohibited dark magic.

”If you can’t provide other evidence...”

”There is, Veritaserum!” This time, the silent Macnair suddenly voiced, ”As long as he consumes Veritaserum, all truths will be revealed.”

”I see no problem with that,” Umbridge quickly agreed, then she looked at Kael, and pretended to say: ”If you haven’t killed Mr. Nott, you wouldn’t refuse using Veritaserum to prove your innocence, would you?”

”No, I refuse.” Kael smiled and said: ”In the same year, 1975, the International Confederation of Wizards abolished the use of Legilimency and Veritaserum in interrogations upon discovering that memories can be altered.”

”But if there are special circumstances, such as the suspect refusing to confess, it can still be used.” Umbridge said coldly: ”The Ministry of Magic has this authority.”

”To my knowledge, there isn’t.” Kael’s expression remained unchanged: ”Unless there’s sufficient evidence, Veritaserum can be used for final confirmation, but do you have evidence now? Just relying on some people’s words? That’s not good enough.

”I suspect they are colluding for revenge because I won the Triwizard Tournament against Durmstrang.

”So I believe they should be administered Veritaserum to confirm the truthfulness of their testimonies.”

Amelia Bones tapped her fingers lightly on the table, looking thoughtful.

Macnair, who had spoken earlier, subconsciously stepped back two steps upon seeing her expression.

None of those present were foolish, it was easy to see he was afraid of drinking Veritaserum.

Yet Umbridge chose to ignore this; she still looked at Kael and asked, ”Can I assume you are resisting the Ministry of Magic?”

”Bang!”

At that moment, the door to the room was suddenly pushed open from outside, Professor McGonagall angrily entered despite being blocked by several Aurors.

”You don’t represent the Ministry of Magic.” She rudely rebuffed Umbridge and then looked at Kael.

”Sorry, Kael... twenty minutes ago someone told me there was a change in location, I waited in an empty room for ten minutes before realizing something was off, thanks to...”

At this point, Professor McGonagall paused slightly, then continued: ”Thanks to someone helping me find you here.”

”It’s alright, Professor.” Kael said, ”Perhaps someone didn’t want you to come.”

”I think you’re right.” Professor McGonagall turned to look at those on the podium... especially Macnair, Malfoy, and Karkaroff, her lips pressed into a tight line.

”I never knew the Ministry of Magic could change interrogation content on a whim.” Her tone was stern, ”This action is simply ridiculous to the extreme!”

”I must remind you, Minerva McGonagall, this was approved by the Minister.” Umbridge said.

”I don’t recall the Minister of Magic having the right to arbitrarily change Wizengamot regulations.” Professor McGonagall retorted sharply: ”But it’s okay, Dumbledore is here, I believe he’ll come soon, maybe he can enlighten us.”

Yes, Dumbledore was indeed at the Ministry of Magic.

Kael suddenly felt less anxious, or rather he began pondering how to stall for a while.

”Mr. Scrimgeour.” He said with a smile: ”I suddenly feel that what Headmaster Karkaroff said earlier makes sense, maybe the next spell I used was indeed Fiendfyre, should we continue checking?”

Karkaroff felt icy cold all over, the last person he wanted to see now was Dumbledore, even though Dumbledore couldn’t act against him, just recalling the scene that night on the mountaintop made his legs feel weak.

As for Macnair next to him, he was about to lose his footing.

Now the only one still able to keep some composure was Malfoy.

He was well aware that Professor McGonagall was just trying to intimidate them, matters on Harry Potter’s end wouldn’t be resolved this quickly, even if Dumbledore did come, it wouldn’t be right now unless he was willing to give up the Savior Potter.

”Blood Debt!” Malfoy suddenly said: ”Priori Incantatem can be interfered with, but not Blood Debt, as long as the Sphinx Magic Mirror is used, it can reveal whether he has killed a wizard.”

Malfoy did this for a reason, Dumbledore was indeed terrifying, but at least wouldn’t directly kill them; if they didn’t accomplish the task, the Dark Lord wouldn’t let them off easily.

If they weren’t dead, they’d be stripped of their skin.

Kael frowned.

Sphinx Magic Mirror? Blood Debt?

He was now increasingly certain that Diana must have known their plans early on, and had him come to the Ministry of Magic in advance, otherwise how could it be so coincidental.

But before Kael could think further, Chris stood up.

”Ms. Bones, I think they should first prove that their testimony has no issues.”

”Indeed.” Professor McGonagall said without hesitation: ”Temporarily changing interrogation content is already a serious mistake, I absolutely won’t allow you to continue framing a Hogwarts student baselessly.”

Her attitude was firm, she looked like an angry lion.

”I also disagree.” Kael nodded in agreement.

Although with Diana’s help, he didn’t have to worry about this now, but this didn’t mean he should cooperate with Malfoy and be manipulated.

Such passivity was not the outcome Kael wanted to see.
