Chapter 100: Chapter 100: The Origin of the Head

Civilian?

You’re telling me this person with a longbow slung over their back, wielding a machete, is a civilian?

Although the middle-aged man’s expression didn’t change much, he was very wary of Su Changxing in his heart. People who survive well in the apocalypse are far from simple; the simple don’t last.

”This guy is way too arrogant; deal with him.”

A hoarse and irritable voice suddenly appeared in his ear—it was the voice of the head.

Su Changxing raised an eyebrow, replied inwardly, ”Shut up.”

Mu Qing’s face changed drastically, saying forcefully, ”Fan Jianming, I can guarantee he’s not dangerous, and it’s not that he can’t enter the gathering place, he just doesn’t want to.”

The middle-aged man’s face darkened slightly, ready to say something when Su Changxing interrupted, ”You guys go ahead, I won’t hold you up.”

The middle-aged man’s face then eased a bit, he looked around cautiously and said, ”Goodbye, thank you for understanding.”

After walking a distance and out of sight of Su Changxing, the middle-aged man said slowly:

”Executor, it’s not that we’re being overly cautious, but just in the past few days, we’ve had no less than fifty people killed by these so-called ’civilians.’ Because of the Mysterious Shop and Superpowers, some of them have acquired powerful abilities, they aren’t really civilians, more like thugs; they’ll do anything for resources, Points... just like that young man, who knows how many people he’s killed.”

He didn’t know much, just received a temporary urgent assignment to escort such an Executor, who invariably holds a certain decision-making power; in reality, has significant identity weight.

In the apocalypse, most identities will vanish into thin air, whether you’re wealthy or a high official, but some functional departments will remain, and their power will be infinitely magnified.

This is reshuffling, also a strategy in facing such disaster.

Su Changxing turned and headed towards a small hotel; these small inns all had singular small rooms, fewer zombies, relatively safer, suitable for temporary rest.

The head babbled on in the backpack: ”You’ve got quite a nice temperament, haha, if it were me, I’d have slaughtered them all; all of them, kill the men, rape then kill the women. The great True Knower tells you, even if you don’t kill them, they’ll die anyway.”

It seemed to have fully immersed itself in Su Changxing’s position, appearing very angry.

Su Changxing felt this head had serious issues, very dark, very bloodthirsty, replied grumpily, ”If they’re going to die anyway, why should I kill them?”

The head said proudly, ”This is different, you belong to the Mysterious Side as an Extraordinary; whatever you do is measured, pity your role isn’t a Slaughterer or something, that kind of role is simple and brutal, merely killing would make you stronger quickly, but...”

Su Changxing cut down two rushing zombies, asked curiously, ”What would happen?”

The head seemed satisfied with Su Changxing’s reaction, laughed:

”Haha, of course it’s easily driven insane, becomes mentally unstable, this type of role involves some philosophical issues, quite controversial, like whether you’d still be you after going insane because of the role, or whether the role itself replaced your personality.”

Su Changxing ascended the stairs, said, ”In that case, these roles are indeed dangerous. Is it that finding the right behavior will quickly elevate an Extraordinary?”

The head said, ”How could it be? Besides some of the more simplistic lower-level roles, most roles are hard to determine the correct conduct. The same role varies with different people, even in different environments, only by self-exploration over time, accumulation... you should have felt what I said.”

”Indeed, I have.”

Su Changxing nodded thoughtfully, cleared the second floor of the inn, spread a sleeping bag in a relatively clean room, lit incense and placed it in a corner, then heated up a box of self-heating rice beside it.

The head said blankly, ”Kid, what in the world are you doing, so much fuss over sleeping. Also, can you take me out for some fresh air?”

Su Changxing took out the head, placed it beside him, thought for a moment and said, ”I am quite ceremonial, but you do look rather creepy, I think it will affect my sleep.”

Saying this, he stuffed the head back, zipped up the bag and placed it against the wall.

The head said indignantly, ”Kid, I feel you’re insulting me.”

Su Changxing said seriously, ”That’s not it, this is just my most genuine physiological reaction. If you were a kawaii girl though... Seems even creepier.”

After seriously contemplating, he found that no matter the head’s form, it remains creepy.

The head was silent, seemingly contemplating what Su Changxing had said.

Su Changxing opened his phone, browsed the forum, found it filled with anxiety and panic. Under various pressures, more recruitment posts had appeared, prompting the formation of more small groups.

He also noted a hot thread:

Strategist: Apart from the zombie infection, our foremost issue now is broadening survival spaces so we can secure more resources for survival.

Thus, the most critical action now is to organize everyone, form a larger gathering place, yet I don’t understand why the authorities remain inactive.

I strongly urge the leaders of various groups to unite, establish a solid gathering place, somewhere people can sleep peacefully.

...

Su Changxing thought they were right, forming a positive cycle gathering place would make surviving a month completely possible, infection aside.

The head said, ”The great True Knower doesn’t think much of your palm, by the way, how many people are left in your world?”

Su Changxing was about to speak but suddenly froze, the head seemed unable to see the phone, yet it knew the phone existed.

Was it perceiving, or did it already know?

Su Changxing calmly replied, ”Take a guess.”

The head pondered for a while, said, ”Kid, you’re a bit strange, excluding you, I feel you still have over fifty billion people, but if including you, I feel there’s no more than a billion.”

Su Changxing’s pupils contracted sharply, his mind racing at high speed, fragmentary information piecing together bit by bit: the head knew of the phone’s existence and could judge their real survival number from a high perspective.

Either it’s the controller or designer of the Doomsday Game, or it’s an experiencer of the Doomsday Game.
