Chapter 81: Chapter 81: There’s Still Hope for Me

The short-haired man died, and the hall became quiet once again, leaving only Su Changxing’s heavy breathing.

The woman seemed as if she were dead, making no sound or movement. She didn’t know what had happened, only that the man who tortured her was dead.

This must have been an internal conflict; the man who tortured her was killed by his companion.

A hint of a joyous smile cracked across the woman’s face. What could be more uplifting than this?

Su Changxing turned back and noticed a cellphone on the ground to the side, which must belong to the woman.

With her movements restrained, she couldn’t pick it up or use the phone.

He examined the woman’s ravaged body, large chunks of flesh cut from her. Her thighs and arms exposed stark white bones.

Injuries this severe are usually fatal.

Su Changxing walked toward the woman, intending to end her suffering and free her from the pain.

The hanging woman sensed Su Changxing’s approach and said calmly, ”If you’re still human, then kill me.”

Su Changxing nodded earnestly, ”Yes, since you won’t survive anyway, I’ll kill you... Speaking of which, you’re really unlucky to be born into this place, worse off than I am.”

He said, drawing a short knife from his chest, aiming it at the woman’s head, ready to offer her a swift and painless death.

Destroying the brainstem directly can cause instant death.

The hanging woman was pleading hopelessly, never expecting this person to agree, and his words were strange.

Suddenly, she realized.

She understood the person before her seemed to be from the same world as her and quickly shouted, ”Wait a moment, I think there’s still hope, I can still live, don’t kill me.”

The woman suddenly changed her tune.

Su Changxing’s hand, which was about to strike down, paused abruptly. He didn’t expect this woman to have a survival instinct and couldn’t help but sigh. Survival is indeed a human instinct, persuading him, saying:

”You’re beyond saving. Dying would be less painful, living a bit longer would only be suffering.”

The woman initially wanted to die because she couldn’t endure the torture. Now, given a chance to live, why should she die? She immediately retorted, ”I really can survive.”

Su Changxing patiently cautioned, ”You need to face reality, you can’t, don’t hold on to unrealistic fantasies.”

The woman said weakly, ”I really can, it’s not a fantasy, but a fact.”

”Fine, I’ll just do it.”

Su Changxing raised the short knife, ”Rest in peace.”

Whimpering, I want to live, I don’t want to die.

The woman’s heart was full of despair, unable to believe she would die after seeing hope.

Su Changxing’s short knife suddenly stopped before it touched the woman’s temple, asking doubtfully, ”Can you really survive?”

He noticed the wounds on the woman’s body twitching at an observable speed. Though subtle, he still noticed it.

The woman let out a long sigh of relief, saying, ”I have a rather special superpower that can rapidly regenerate flesh and blood, so these injuries won’t kill me.”

Su Changxing withdrew the short knife and thought for a moment before saying, ”This superpower seems powerful, so you’re a superpower user?”

The woman shook her head, ”Though I might be considered a superpower user, how can you see I’m powerful? It’s a completely useless superpower. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have ended up like this, treated as renewable food by these monsters.”

Su Changxing connected the dots, imagining this woman being sliced up over three or four days without losing her mind—a bit like lingchi, and said:

”You haven’t died from all that, so in a way, your superpower is still very potent.”

The woman, her eyes covered, turned to face Su Changxing and calmly said, ”That’s one way to put it, but can you let me down first?”

”······”

Su Changxing paused, then cut the three ropes suspending the woman, placing her on the ground, and removed the blindfold from her face.

They were eyes full of bloodshot but bright.

The woman sat sluggishly on the ground, looking up weakly at Su Changxing, and asked, ”Do you have water? I want to drink water.”

Su Changxing took a bottle of water and a bag of biscuits from his backpack and handed them to her, saying, ”Yes, these will be noted on your account. If you don’t die, remember to repay me with points later.”

The woman took the water and drank a large gulp, ”You’re really ruthless. What’s your name, my lifesaver? I’m Mu Qing.”

”Su Changxing.”

Su Changxing looked at this blood-covered woman, thought for a bit, and said, ”Be careful on your own. Best to stay on the lower levels, but I suggest you hide in the abandoned room on the second-to-last floor.”

Mu Qing gazed blankly at Su Changxing and asked, ”Where are you going?”

Su Changxing, with a steel saber in hand, said calmly, ”What do you think? We always have to find a way out, right?”

Mu Qing thought and said, ”Then how did you get in? I thought you fought your way in.”

”I crawled in through the waterway. If you really want to get out, you could try your luck in the crematorium on the floor above.”

After speaking, Su Changxing turned and walked toward the corridor. What a pity Mu Qing had no combat ability now, or he could have taken her along as cannon fodder.

Sigh, still hoping Mu Qing could survive, then repay his debt later.

Su Changxing walked upward along the corridor, estimating there should be three underground floors, ascended two levels, and the light outside the staircase was very bright.

This floor seemed to have quite a few people inside.

”Lao Qi and Lao Si went out yesterday and haven’t returned yet, likely dead.”

”Weren’t they out hunting? Could they have been killed by those prey?”

”If they really were killed by those prey, that would be quite laughable. I reckon they must have encountered those Jackal people, damn those guys have crossed the line, coming onto our territory.”

”Their arrogance is growing unbearable. I suggest we teach them a lesson, let them understand we’re not easy to mess with.”

”You should tell the Lady of the House that. It’s been her decision to endure, we have no choice.”

”The Lady of the House didn’t say to endure, it was just that we signed a treaty, and we should abide by it. But now the other side violated the treaty, we don’t need to be polite anymore.”

”I think if we’re going to war, it should be after the Day of Arrival. Right now, hunting is key.”

······

Su Changxing pressed his ear against the wall, quietly eavesdropping on their conversation, expecting to catch important information.

Apart from them, there’s another survivor organization called Jackal, and the relationship between the two seems tense.

And what does ’prey’ refer to?

People from our world?
