Chapter 61: Chapter 61: The Strange Killer

Lucky Child: Sorry, I really don’t know the so-called method.

Marquis Hei: You need to understand, telling us might be your best choice. As I said before, even in this world, our abilities might be beyond your imagination. I always prefer reasoning before resorting to force.

”That’s really overbearing.”

Su Changxing squinted slightly, feeling quite annoyed by the other’s condescending attitude.

Lucky Child: If that’s the case, I’m afraid we won’t be able to talk.

Marquis Hei: Suit yourself.

Su Changxing rubbed his nose, not really believing the other could find him. It’s just a bluff; who can’t do that?

But could Marquis Hei be one of Chenxi’s people? This domineering style does seem a bit like them; the phrase ”a crooked stick will have a crooked shadow” comes to mind.

The more he thought about it, the more likely it seemed. Marquis Hei might very well be a high-ranking member of Chenxi, but he knew too little about Chenxi.

”I still need to be careful. Someone’s already managed to kill a Screamer. Though the Extraordinary are an upgrade from superpower users, it doesn’t mean superpower users are weak.”

Su Changxing reminded himself not to be careless. Even though he was now an Extraordinary, his actual combat power was just so-so.

Climbing out of the window, Su Changxing descended to the floor below. This time, he was much more cautious, no longer recklessly charging forward, but choosing to use a bow and arrow to slowly clear a path.

”So it’s better to play it safe. The previous approach caused too much commotion. If another Screamer is drawn, I won’t be able to go anywhere tonight.”

Due to previous wastefulness, Su Changxing had only fifty-six arrows left, probably just enough to reach the next Mysterious Shop, and he still needed to keep some arrows as a backup.

Therefore, he could only shoot one arrow and retrieve it, but fortunately, the arrows from the shop were of high quality, each one could be reused at least three times.

After walking about halfway, Su Changxing smelled a strong stench of blood but didn’t see any other bodies around.

”This smell of blood... quite a few people must have died.”

Su Changxing judged, observing his surroundings and noticing there were fewer zombies, suggesting frequent human activity and the blood stench was close.

Drip.

Su Changxing felt a drop of unknown liquid fall on his face, wiping it off with his hand.

”It’s blood, coming from above?”

He looked up and saw some liquid trickling down a crack in the wall. After some hesitation, he climbed up to the second floor, peering inside through a broken window.

A strong stench of blood overwhelmed him, and Su Changxing saw a horrific scene: dismembered bodies everywhere, with blood pooling in the corners and seeping through cracks.

”There must be twenty or thirty bodies. Who did this? It definitely wasn’t zombies, maybe other humans?”

Su Changxing felt a chill, unable to imagine who would do such a thing. Calming himself, he estimated the bodies had been dead for some time, and the killer was gone.

Climbing into the second floor, he examined the bodies and found they shared a common feature: a large hole in the chest where the heart had been removed.

He also searched around but didn’t find any cell phones on these people.

”This is a psychopathic killer, truly vicious.”

Su Changxing’s eye twitched. He originally thought it was done by some monster, but with the phones missing, it was clearly the work of other humans.

After searching around, Su Changxing discovered that the supplies these people had were still there, not taken by the murderer.

”Was it just to rob points? But supplies can be exchanged for points too.”

Su Changxing’s mind felt stuck, unable to make sense of it. He must have missed a key point.

This group’s size and resources were comparable to Huang Biao’s, with ample supplies of biscuits, jerky, canned food, instant noodles, and bottled water.

It was evident this group had decent strength but was completely wiped out.

Su Changxing posted a thread intending to sell these items, but then saw that Huang Biao had sent him a private message.

Heartless Beast (Lucky Child): Brother, I found some guns at the police station before, but they’re all unusable. I can give you two unusable handguns or give you points. But if you want points, I don’t have that many right now. I can give you 900 points first, and 600 more tomorrow.

Su Changxing certainly wasn’t interested in useless handguns, so he replied: Points, please.

Heartless Beast (Lucky Child): Okay, I’ll send you 900 points now.

Huang Biao also sent a private message to another one of Su Changxing’s ids.

Heartless Beast (Please call me a good person): Where are you now? I heard you went out after midnight. Be careful alone. I heard some reckless person was running wildly on the street, attracting an Undead Tide and a Screamer. Many people on the forum are condemning that person.

Reckless?

Su Changxing nodded, confident that it definitely wasn’t about him.

Please call me a good person: Hmm, I’ll be careful to avoid that reckless person.

Heartless Beast (Please call me a good person): Also, if you find extra water, you can prioritize selling it to me. We’re really short on water right now, and I can trade you some food.

Please call me a good person: I happened to scavenge some water, but I only need points. You can exchange it with me for points.

Heartless Beast (Please call me a good person): Brother, I’m still owing others points. Can I owe it to you for now? I should be able to pay you back by tomorrow or the day after.

Please call me a good person: Sure, I have twelve bottles of water, 1000 points.

Heartless Beast (Please call me a good person): That’s a lot!

Please call me a good person: Just lucky.

Heartless Beast (Please call me a good person): You’re really lucky, thanks, brother. I’ve left the room for you, come by whenever you want.

Su Changxing sent twelve bottles of water to Huang Biao.

Although selling the water on the forum could earn more points and there’d be no credit issues.

But he was willing, just because Huang Biao’s group was willing to take in a little girl like Zhu Xin Xue.

Many groups on the forum explicitly said in their recruitment posts that they don’t want the elderly, children, or women. It’s harsh but realistic.

Su Changxing wasn’t essentially different from most people, selfish but not completely so.

When he was having a hard time himself, he wouldn’t give a penny to others, but when he was relatively well-off, he’d show some generosity.

It’s like in the current world, people from difficult family situations often exhibit stinginess and miserliness, while those from relatively well-off backgrounds tend to be gentle and tolerant; it’s determined by material conditions and human nature.

Su Changxing posted a thread on the forum, selling other supplies.

Lucky Child: Scavenged some supplies, first come, first served.

Biscuits (expired), twelve bags, 80 points

Jerky (expired), seven bags, 200 points

Instant noodles, twelve bags, 300 points

Canned food, eight cans, 400 points

Reply 1: Even after becoming Extraordinary, Lucky Child stays true to himself, still a diligent merchant.

Reply 2: Please, Lucky Child, sell me some food this time. I couldn’t buy any last time.

Reply 3: Lucky Child said it’s first come, first served. Don’t break the rules.

Reply 4: Can you tell us how to become Extraordinary?

Reply 5: +1, I’m curious too.
