Chapter 94: Chapter 94: The Truth of the Apocalypse

Through a misty fog, Su Changxing saw a tall, white-haired man leading a little girl along a rugged mountain path.

In front of them was a large meteorite crater, where a large group of people were examining an item within: a large, oval-shaped metallic object, resembling something like a landing capsule.

The man laughed heartily, ”Haha, Xiaomei, I can feel this is the opportunity, this is the chance for our company to break through its bottleneck.”

This was a mysterious object fallen from the sky, landing right on the back mountain that Shield Company had just acquired. Apart from them, no one observed this extraterrestrial object.

The little girl beamed sweetly, ”Grandpa’s company will definitely become the most powerful company.”

Shield Company was originally an average-sized company, with some domestic recognition but completely unknown worldwide.

But from this day on, everything changed completely.

······

A giant grayish-white arm was enclosed in a massive glass room, resembling a human arm but magnified countless times.

The old man gazed obsessively through the glass at the enormous arm in the room, ”Xiaomei, I feel vitality beside this arm, I smell the scent of immortality.”

He was too old, old enough to clearly feel his own death.

No one can calmly face death, not even the most wise and powerful emperor.

Humans always maintain the most fundamental desire for life.

The woman paused for a moment and said, ”Grandpa, you once said this is a forbidden thing, something no one can touch.”

The old man seemed to calm down, speaking quietly, ”Humans have to move forward. Staying in place will lead to destruction. This is the essence of everything.”

The woman sighed, always feeling that whatever Grandpa said made a lot of sense.

······

In a large conference room sat over thirty people, half of whom were blue holographic projections.

The air carried a faint fragrance, and the temperature was comfortable.

A white-haired old man sat at the head of the silver-gray long table, saying, ”We have discovered a technology that can elevate all of humanity, which will be the greatest turning point in history. We will usher in a new world, and you all will be witnesses.”

The old man’s face was full of wrinkles, his eye sockets entirely sunken, exuding a heavy air of death, yet he still maintained the dignity of a superior.

Everyone around had solemn expressions. This was not a dream but fact. Shield Company miraculously completed this technology, and it is currently undergoing widespread testing.

The woman gazed at the old man sitting at the head of the table, her face somewhat grave, knowing that this technology was not something they developed but came from that extraterrestrial object from decades ago.

Nobody can guarantee this technology is entirely reliable.

A giant pale arm appeared on the screen, and just looking at the picture of this arm was dizzying.

The old man pointed at the picture on the large screen and said, ”This arm is about the size of an adult’s, belonging to some strange species.”

”According to instrument observation, this arm constantly emits a peculiar radiation, enhancing the life force of anyone exposed to it.”

”We only need to extract a tiny bit of the skin to harness its energy and establish a small energy station, while cutting off a piece of flesh can create a large energy station.”

······

The woman sat below, quietly watching everything unfold, knowing that a phrase continuously repeated in the landing capsule: ”When the arm covers the world, everything shall become immortal.”

She heard it, the old man heard it, and the phrase seemed engraved in her mind, impossible to forget.

The old man held absolute authority within the company, and no one would question what he said.

From then on, Shield Company began its grandiose Energy Net plan, dividing the enormous arm into several parts to establish large energy stations around the globe.

······

Su Changxing seemed to have dozed off for a moment, though it lasted only an instant. Numerous fragmented memories unfolded in his mind, most of them scattered and useless.

But he managed to capture a few useful memories, and they happened to relate to the truth behind the apocalypse.

”An arm has brought about the end of the world; this must be the Divine Spirit.”

Su Changxing was somewhat uncertain about his judgment. Shield Company activated the energy within the arm in some way, causing it to broadly affect the surroundings, covering the entire world.

”So my previous judgment was entirely correct. In the end, it’s Shield Company’s reckless pursuit of possible immortality for one person that doomed humanity’s future.”

Su Changxing summed up, yet felt something was off. How did the old man link the arm to immortality?

A normal person would never come up with such an idea.

The old man seemed to be just the executor of all this, whereas the apocalypse had been planned by someone beforehand.

”In other words, only by becoming an Extraordinary can one maintain self-awareness and avoid infection... perhaps deactivating energy stations is also feasible, delaying the infection time, dragging it out for thirty days.”

[You have roughly grasped the truth of the apocalypse and gained a chance to speak to the world. Please inform everyone of this harsh truth.]

Su Changxing looked at the prompt on his phone, falling silent. He felt the difficulty of completing this task was truly immense; another person by no means could have uncovered the truth of the apocalypse.

He also knew this news would likely bring panic and despair.

But it was something that had to be told to everyone.

A world announcement suddenly appeared, causing the entire forum to explode.

[World Announcement: Lucky Child has discovered and confirmed the truth of the apocalypse, earning the title ”Lonely Truth Seeker.”]

Lucky Child: I must inform everyone of a harsh truth: in thirty days, over ninety-nine percent of people will either die or turn into zombies.

This world is being influenced by some powerful mysterious entity, affecting everyone within it.

Ultimately, the majority will turn into zombies, while a minority will become Extraordinary.

To survive, there are only two ways: either become an Extraordinary yourself to resist this influence, or find a way to shut down your local energy station, giving most people a sliver of hope for survival.

However, energy stations are likely very dangerous, and the intense radiation there may instantly turn you into a zombie.

······

The post quickly garnered over ten million replies within just a few minutes.

Master Kang: I was already on the verge of starving to death and feeling desperate, but now it just seems like a matter of dying sooner or later, so be it.

Ling Meng: If there’s no mistake, this is the real purpose of the game, to select the Extraordinary. The rest don’t matter; they can all die.

Black Tea: So how can we become Extraordinary? Lucky big shot, aren’t you going to say something?

Huangshi: Brothers, I’ve decided to jump later. I won’t suffer this injustice; who’s with me?

Keychain: +1.
