A Warm Marriage After Rebirth

Chapter 229: Chapter 229: It’s Not Over Yet (7)

But Terrence Grant was flying down the road in his car and didn’t hear his phone ring at all. It wasn’t until he finished two laps that he saw a string of missed calls from Hughes. He called back immediately.

”What happened?”

”Sir, you finally called back! There’s a fire at the auction house. I’m outside and saw the Marshal and Joel Xavier. From what they were saying, it sounds like Seraphina Sterling is trapped inside. She still hasn’t come out!” Hughes’s voice was low and heavy, and he spoke much faster than usual. The urgency of the situation was palpable.

The moment Terrence Grant heard this, he crushed the soda can in his hand, jumped into his car, and slammed the accelerator to the floor.

”Contact Ronan Winters—” Terrence Grant didn’t even finish his sentence before a massive explosion—BOOM—erupted from the other end of the line. His heart seized. ”Hughes! What happened?”

”Sir, it exploded... The auction house just exploded! The entire second floor has collapsed!” Hughes stared blankly at the scene before him. Towering flames threatened to consume everything, and billowing black smoke coiled like a great dragon, ready to swallow everyone whole. The air was thick with the smell of scorched material as the police who had already arrived worked to evacuate the crowd.

Terrence Grant felt his heart stop, the blood freezing in his veins. He had only one thought now: ’Get there faster. I have to get there right now, this instant, and see the situation for myself! I have to confirm that Seraphina Sterling is safe.’

The car sped onward. Explosions... for him, they were a common occurrence. He had witnessed countless explosions and even orchestrated such violent scenes himself. To him, explosions were second nature. But in the instant he heard that blast, for the very first time, he trembled uncontrollably, so scared he could barely keep his hands on the steering wheel.

For the first time, he was drowning in regret. ’Why did I have to argue with Seraphina Sterling?! Why did I leave the auction house?! Why did I leave her all alone to face a crisis like this?!’

Terrence Grant quickly dialed an encrypted number.

”Quentin Grant, there’s been a fire and an explosion in Sanford! Get your men over there now and secure the scene! I have someone in there!”

No one knew Terrence Grant’s true identity; everyone thought he was just a cynical, arrogant playboy. In the Grant Family, only the old patriarch had seen a hint of the truth. In all his years of service, Terrence Grant had never abused his power for personal reasons. But this time, for Seraphina Sterling’s safety, he was willing to pull rank—something he had never done before.

Quentin Grant was the leader of the Southwest Field Army’s elite spearhead unit. Upon receiving Terrence Grant’s order, he immediately mobilized his forces and raced toward the explosion site. Although he knew this was a local matter and the military shouldn’t interfere—that even to save lives, taking action without a formal request for assistance was a violation of regulations—he still went at once. Because it was an order from Terrence Grant.

By the time Terrence Grant arrived, Quentin Grant was already there with his men. The fire had been brought under control, and casualties were being carried out of the building one after another. Some had already stopped breathing. Even those who still had a heartbeat were severely burned, without a single patch of unscathed skin on their bodies.

As soon as Terrence Grant got out of his car and started toward the building to search it himself, Hughes stopped him.

”Sir, I’ve already been inside. I didn’t see Seraphina Sterling!”

”Are you sure? Did you check every corner carefully?” Terrence Grant didn’t break his stride. He knew in his heart that he had trained Seraphina Sterling himself. Faced with a crisis like this, she wouldn’t just wait helplessly for rescue like an ordinary person. ’If there was any chance, she would have gotten herself out and made sure she was safe.’
