A Warm Marriage After Rebirth

Chapter 224: Chapter 224: Things Are Not Over Yet (Part 2)

”That’s none of your business.” Listening to the vendors’ cries from below, Seraphina Sterling took a deep breath and regained her composure. ”I don’t know why you’re looking for Walt, but since you’ve already investigated me, you should know I gave the Jade Bracelet to Simon. If you want it, go to Country M and find him! I can’t help you! As for your gift, I can’t accept it! Who knows if it has some kind of tracking device inside!”

Just as Seraphina Sterling was about to leave, Terrence Grant caught up in a single stride, stepping directly in front of her and blocking her path. ”I was your teacher. Do you really think you can lie to my face and I wouldn’t know?”

”What do you mean?” Seraphina Sterling frowned.

”You really don’t know? Simon was killed on his way home, and the Jade Bracelet was destroyed on the spot. The one you gave him was a fake!” ’He’d only started investigating so urgently because he’d heard something happened to Simon. The mastermind behind this is ruthless. They’ll stop at nothing for that Jade Bracelet! Even the heavily protected young master of the Villet Family met with disaster, let alone Seraphina Sterling, who has no one she can count on!’

”You mean—Simon is dead?” Seraphina Sterling stared at him in shock. ’Simon was surrounded by experts. He’d survived so many assassination attempts before, which just proves how formidable his bodyguards were. How could he have been killed?!’

”It seems you really didn’t know.” Terrence Grant’s frown deepened. ”The intel I have is that something happened to Simon on the plane back to Country M. They were after the Jade Bracelet he was carrying, but they destroyed it on the spot when they realized it was a fake.”

”So that’s why you came looking for me. You think I deliberately hid the real one and gave Simon a fake?” Seraphina Sterling retorted, the shock of the news overwhelming her. ’She knew the Jade Bracelet was a huge problem, which was exactly why she’d given it to Simon. She had assumed that, given his background, no one would dare cross the Villet Family! Even if they made a move on him, his people should never have let them succeed so easily!’

’But Simon had lost his life over the Jade Bracelet anyway!’

”Believe it or not, the Jade Bracelet I gave Simon was the exact one Zion Hale got for me at the auction. As for why it turned out to be a fake, I have no idea! Maybe someone swapped it after Simon had it; or perhaps the one I received was a fake from the very beginning; or maybe the culprits were just ignorant and mistook the real one for a fake!”

Seraphina Sterling’s mood soured. ’She just couldn’t wrap her head around it. It was just a promise from the Bosworth Family, wasn’t it? Did they really have to be so utterly ruthless?!’

Things were already heading in the worst possible direction. This was Terrence Grant’s greatest fear. ’They had no clue who the mastermind was. The enemy was in the shadows while they were out in the open—the most troublesome kind of situation!’ ”Is it possible it was swapped out after you received it?”

Seraphina Sterling shook her head.

’The last sliver of hope was gone.’

The VIP room fell deathly silent, the quiet almost frightening.

Leo Jennings had also picked up on the gravity of the situation. ”Should we hire some bodyguards? These people are murderers!”

”Didn’t Simon have bodyguards? The men protecting him were the best of the best. But even with all those experts protecting him at once, he still ended up dead. Do you really think this is the kind of problem that can be solved by hiring a few bodyguards?”

Terrence Grant shot Leo Jennings a disdainful look. ’What a clueless brat. How could Seraphina be with someone who knows absolutely nothing!’ Of course, Terrence Grant would never admit that he was only this irritated because he had seen Leo Jennings arrive with Seraphina.
