After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

Chapter 144: Chapter 144: To Be on the Safe Side

The man before her was the Space Superpower User who had stopped her at the stairwell.

”I don’t mean any harm... I was just wondering, does your friend really accept gold?”

The man had nearly been scared to death by the immensely strong Wayne Warner.

He was a tall man, standing at 1.8 meters, but he felt like a helpless chick when Wayne Warner lifted him up.

”I’m not sure,” Nina Jacobs said. ”How about this? I’ll ask for you tomorrow.”

This man didn’t seem to be teamed up with anyone.

He was always a lone wolf.

’He really is suspicious,’ she thought.

”Please, you have to remember! I’m begging you!”

The man looked like he was about to fall to his knees before Nina Jacobs.

”She’s my friend, after all,” Nina Jacobs said, asking the questions on her mind. ”You have to tell me your situation. And where did you get all these goods? Why are you in such a rush to trade Gold for supplies?”

’She suspected that the things in this man’s space were most likely ill-gotten. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be acting so sneaky all the time. He didn’t even dare show his face yesterday when it was so chaotic downstairs.’

”Are you really from City D?” the man asked, hesitating for a moment.

”I was born and raised in City D, through and through.”

Nina Jacobs promptly took out her ID and flashed it in front of him.

The address on it was indeed in City D.

After seeing it, the man hesitated for a moment before finally recounting his story.

”I used to have a team. Or rather, it was less of a team and more of an organization. My girlfriend was a police officer, and she protected me the whole way. She even led me to a lot of supplies. We finally managed to get into that organization...”

The man’s nostalgic expression twisted into one of pain.

”They only valued Superpower Users. My girlfriend... she was assaulted by several of them. And... and she died. I wanted to avenge her, but I just got a brutal beating. Later, I quickly became one of the top Space Superpower Users in the organization. The boss even trusted me. I thought I could finally get her revenge. I killed those men, one by one, using whatever means I could. But in the end, I was found out. So I ran. I escaped with all the supplies in my space... I know I’m a despicable coward. Nothing I’ve done has been honorable. But I still want to live...”

”Before, all the supplies in my space had to be handed over to the organization. Later, for various reasons, they filled up my space again, but it was mostly with things you can’t eat. Gold is useless to me. Crystal Cores are useless too. All I want now is to find an isolated place to live out my life alone. But before that, I need to trade for some food.”

The man finally finished speaking.

His face was a mask of deep helplessness and confusion.

”What’s your name?” Nina Jacobs asked.

”Me? My name is Xavier Coleman,” the man answered automatically.

”...”

The moment he mentioned that organization, Nina Jacobs had immediately thought of the Superpower User Alliance.

Back at the golf course, the people from City A had mentioned a runaway Space Superpower User.

She remembered the name they’d said was ”Xavier Coleman.”

’To think he’d escape all the way here. But it wasn’t that surprising, really.’

City J was an ungoverned territory, and it was a good distance from City A.

”A place isolated from the world... A place like that probably doesn’t exist,” Nina Jacobs said regretfully.

”Yeah, I know. I just want to avoid those people.”

This was why he would hide at the slightest rumor.

After all, he had made off with a huge amount of supplies.

”Aren’t you afraid I’ll betray you?” Nina Jacobs asked. ’Xavier Coleman must still be hiding something.’

Xavier Coleman shook his head.

”My judgment of character has always been poor, but you helped that kid, Yuri Rhodes, today. I think that at least means you’re not the type to bully the weak.”

Besides, if he didn’t trade the goods away soon, Xavier Coleman worried he wouldn’t be able to hold out for much longer.

”Tomorrow afternoon, if you’re serious about the trade, I’ll have her wait for you at the Lakeview Pavilion not far from here.”

Nina Jacobs had passed a place called ”Lakeview Pavilion” on her way here.

It was supposed to be a lake, but now it was completely dry, with only a pavilion left in the middle.

There weren’t many zombies there, so it should be relatively safe.

”I know the place. Please tell your friend I’ll definitely be there waiting!” Xavier Coleman promised.

’Nina Jacobs was actually looking forward to the trade.’

But just to be safe, she still planned to conduct the trade with him under the identity of the Space Superpower User, Claire Warner.

「Early the next morning.」

Nina Jacobs left the construction site bright and early.

”The water’s ready. What are you looking at?”

Jane Dixon walked over to Finn Hart’s side, following his gaze out the window.

An SUV was speeding off into the distance, kicking up a cloud of dust.

The SUV wasn’t clean; its body was spattered with numerous unidentifiable stains.

”I was just wondering, why is she so bold?”

Finn Hart’s eyes were filled with suspicion.

”Bold?”

Jane Dixon didn’t know who Finn was talking about.

”It’s nothing. I’m going to take a shower. Make sure they disinfect the car,” Finn Hart said.

Nina Jacobs could feel a pair of eyes watching her.

However, her goal today was to get to Aerodyne Corporation for Freebie Mission 19 as quickly as possible.

’For such a huge supply point to have not been cleared out, there must be a reason.’

”There really are a lot of zombies in City J,” Nina Jacobs couldn’t help but say after they were forced to stop by zombies for the sixth time.

In just over two hours, she and Wayne Warner had already cleared out six waves of zombies.

They had also hidden inside the safe house twice.

This was mainly because she was worried Wayne Warner’s body couldn’t handle prolonged combat.

Fortunately, the two of them finally reached the vicinity of Aerodyne Corporation without any major incidents.

”Something’s strange here.”

Anticipating that there would be no shortage of zombies here, Nina Jacobs had already deployed the safe house.

The safe house was deployed on the second-floor platform of a two-story building.

From there, they could see everything below.

Judging by the zombies’ clothing, many of them had only recently turned.

That’s what she found strange.

”Normally, if someone were attacked by this many zombies, they’d be devoured without a trace,” Nina Jacobs muttered to herself, peering out the window. ”But these zombies don’t seem to have any major external injuries.”

The safe house was a Level Three safe house.

It was completely safe when facing fewer than 1,000 zombies.

But the number of zombies in the surrounding area had clearly exceeded that, which was why Nina Jacobs had chosen this platform.

”But no matter what, the first step is to lure the zombies away.”

Nina Jacobs released two Little Zombie Rats.

She had tied a mini-speaker to each of them.

The Little Zombie Rats crawled down through the crack under the safe house door.

When Nina Jacobs pressed the remote to loop a single track, the zombies below immediately swarmed toward the sound.

Although she couldn’t see from the Little Zombie Rats’ perspective, she could hear the sounds around them.

”If only I could Control a few more,” Nina Jacobs lamented from inside the safe house.

At a long distance, she could only Control two Little Zombie Rats at a time.

From the window, she could see the zombies below being led away in two different directions.

She released over twenty such Little Zombie Rats one after another.

She had also used up two Superpower Energy Stones.

The number of zombies outside had visibly dwindled by more than half.

But Nina Jacobs didn’t dare let her guard down.

One by one, her Little Zombie Rats were losing connection, as if something was destroying them.
