After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

Chapter 103: Chapter 103: It’s Effective

”Son of a BITCH!!”

Cole Dempsey cursed as he came to his senses.

”The fact that he can still curse means he’s still lucid.”

Sherry Renner raised her hand and slapped him back and forth a few more times. SLAP, SLAP.

”So, what does that Talisman Paper of yours do...?”

Nina Jacobs couldn’t help but ask.

’He looks like he’s been slapped silly...’ she thought.

”It makes him obedient, so we can get the answers we want.”

Seeing Cole Dempsey’s dazed expression, Sherry Renner knew the Talisman Paper was taking effect.

”Is this an interrogation? Don’t just mess around. Hmph.”

Myron Sinclair scoffed.

’Just as I thought, a charlatan,’ he mused. ’With her Yellow Talismans and feeding people paper. The same old tricks.’

”I don’t think so. That Talisman Paper just ignited in her hand, but I remember she’s a Water Element Superpower User.”

Shirley Lucas didn’t know if this Sherry Renner could be trusted either.

In any case, she certainly seemed a bit unreliable.

”Something’s not right with Cole Dempsey’s state. Don’t forget, he wasn’t like this during the previous interrogation.”

Myra Lawson observed intently.

Cole Dempsey’s expression was more like that of a drunkard.

But before, even when they used electrocution on him, he remained perfectly lucid.

”Anyone Nina trusts must have some real skills.”

Ian Chandler didn’t really understand the situation.

But he had unconditional faith in Nina Jacobs’s judgment.

”Waaah...

When I was little, I pushed the neighbor’s kid into the river and he drowned, but I was so scared I said he slipped and fell in on his own...

I also shaved a female classmate’s head, and I put a toad in someone else’s backpack...”

”After I started working, when my fake diploma was discovered, I ran over that damned boss of mine with a car and killed him...”

Cole Dempsey kept talking, as if he was spilling every secret he had ever buried deep in his heart.

Sherry Renner glanced at Nina Jacobs and gave her a nod.

Nina Jacobs walked over, sat down across from Cole Dempsey, and asked:

”Where is the Superpower User Alliance headquarters? Who is Hughes? Besides Area A, where are the strongholds in the other areas?”

She took out the voice recorder Shirley Lucas had given her and placed it to the side.

Cole Dempsey took a moment to process her words before answering:

”The headquarters... The headquarters is at Quinn Pharmaceuticals... Hughes? Hughes is Tyson Hughes, Hughes is really powerful. The entire City D will be his someday, and I’m going to be a regional director... Besides Area A, there are three other strongholds, located at...”

Nina Jacobs listened intently.

Although this Cole Dempsey appeared to be in a non-lucid state, his answers didn’t seem false.

At the very least, he clearly stated the addresses of the three other strongholds.

”Who do you know on the headquarters’ membership roster?”

Nina Jacobs asked again.

”Members? Well, there’s me, and Hughes, hehehe... Hughes said I’m his most capable assistant. Scott Stone wants to go to the headquarters too, but I’ll never let him, hehehe...”

”Looks like he doesn’t know the full member list,”

Sherry Renner commented from the side.

”Is Tyson Hughes a Superpower User? What’s his Superpower?”

Nina Jacobs thought for a moment, then asked another question.

She suddenly remembered something.

’In her past life, before Simon Abbott joined them, he seemed to have worked for someone else. It was only after that person died and the team disbanded that he was forced to find another way to survive. He had said it was a powerful Thunder Element Superpower User. He didn’t say much at first. But later, during a drunken ramble, he mentioned a ’Junior Hughes’ from a pharmaceutical company.’

”He’s the most powerful Superpower User,”

”He’s... He’s a Thunder Element Superpower User,”

”I want to have the Thunder Element too...”

Cole Dempsey answered.

”I’ve asked everything I needed to.”

Nina Jacobs opened the door.

Meanwhile, Cole Dempsey’s confessions grew more and more outrageous.

Including, but not limited to, his bedroom escapades with every female partner he’d had...

It was just as Sherry Renner had said: he was spilling everything, whether it should be said or not.

”I can’t believe it. Our people couldn’t find a single clue about any of this.”

Myra Lawson was still deep in thought.

They had heard everything from outside the door.

”If there’s nothing else, we’ll be heading back now.”

Nina Jacobs could tell that Myra Lawson and the others were completely unfamiliar with the name Tyson Hughes.

”You’re amazing, Nina. And your friend is amazing, too,”

Ian Chandler said.

This proved the talisman was effective.

”Nothing has been verified yet. What if everything he said was just sleep-talking nonsense?”

Myron Sinclair still didn’t believe in such supernatural hocus-pocus.

”We’ll know if it’s true or false once we investigate.”

Shirley Lucas believed it; this matched the vague rumors he’d overheard when he was undercover in The Alliance.

Now that they had a lead, the rest would be simple.

”Yes, investigate. We must investigate. I’d like to see just what this organization is planning.”

Myra Lawson declared.

”Um... Actually, there’s one more thing,”

Sherry Renner said meekly.

”Miss Renner, please speak freely. We will fully cooperate with you.”

Looking at Sherry Renner now, Myra Lawson’s expression held a newfound respect.

”I did a little divination... Well, not exactly divination, but... Our shelter is probably going to have some bad luck in the next two days.”

After Sherry Renner finished, the others were completely bewildered.

’What does she mean, bad luck?’

”If you don’t know how to talk, then don’t just spout nonsense. You think we wouldn’t know if we were having bad luck or not?”

Myron Sinclair said rudely.

”Myron.”

A single glance from Myra Lawson was enough to make Myron Sinclair shut his mouth.

”Thank you, Miss Renner. I will instruct all the teams to be extra vigilant these next two days,”

Myra Lawson said.

”Mhm.”

Sherry Renner linked arms with Nina Jacobs and left cheerfully.

”What was that you said just now?”

Nina Jacobs asked.

Sherry Renner probably meant well, but her divinations were sometimes inaccurate.

”Actually, my Compass is broken, so I’m not really sure. That’s why I could only give them a warning like that.”

”I didn’t embarrass you just now, did I?”

Sherry Renner asked.

”No, you were amazing back there.”

Nina Jacobs praised her sincerely.

’To be honest, when Sherry Renner was violently force-feeding him the talisman, I thought she was just a fake mystic putting on a show. But I never expected the Talisman Paper to be so effective.’

”Hehe, of course! This is what my master taught me,”

Sherry Renner said proudly.

”Since the Compass is broken, can it be repaired? Or should I look for a new one for you?”

Nina Jacobs planned to keep an eye out for one for Sherry Renner the next time she went out.

Sherry Renner shook her head.

The Compass was already chipped in one corner.

She could either keep using the broken one or find a new one; there was no way to repair it.

”Where can you usually find something like that?”

Nina Jacobs decided to just take Sherry Renner to their living quarters.

Chelsea Walsh was busy taking care of Forrest Walsh lately, so her room was temporarily empty. It was perfect; Sherry Renner wouldn’t have to sleep on the floor on the second level anymore.

”Did you two hear? You broke three of Liam Grant’s ribs! And even his... you know... was...”

The moment Nina Jacobs and Sherry Renner got back, Leo Hale ran over, gloating.

Nina Jacobs knew what he was talking about.

It was just that her final kick had probably destroyed Liam Grant’s family jewels.

No wonder Renee Strong had been so frantic.

”His parents are still causing a scene over at the infirmary. They even put up a banner, saying their son was abused by the shelter.”

Leo Hale grabbed a handful of sunflower seeds, gossiping as he snacked.

”I did a quick divination, and I see trouble coming your way. People like that are probably going to blow this whole thing up.”

Sherry Renner looked at Nina Jacobs sympathetically after hearing this.

”Wouldn’t it be more interesting if they did?”

The bigger the scene they made, the more people would know that the so-called ”number one fighter” was nothing but a joke.
