After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

Chapter 104: Chapter 104: Standing Up for Her

Nina Jacobs had more important things to do.

After Daniel Hale was called to a meeting in the afternoon, Nina Jacobs used the ”First Superpower Card” on him.

However, from her observation, Daniel Hale hadn’t noticed anything unusual about himself by the time he returned.

”They’ve started submitting proposals for the new base’s location. Someone also brought you up at the meeting today.”

Daniel Hale said during dinner.

”It’s Nina’s first day back. Why would anyone bring her up?”

Vera Coleman immediately grew wary upon hearing this.

”It wasn’t anything bad.”

Daniel Hale hadn’t expected that particular person to speak up for them.

It turned out that during the meeting, Sheldon Holden had brought up the matter of Liam Grant’s injuries.

He argued that Liam Grant hadn’t used his full strength, that he was going easy on a female Superpower User, and she had exploited the opening.

Probably because he had already gotten the others on his side, quite a few people voiced their agreement.

Unexpectedly, Samson Thorne from the command war zone shot him down with a single sentence.

”Samson Thorne?”

Nina Jacobs seemed to recall the name.

She had seen that name on the list of casualties at the City D Base.

It seemed he had an accident on his way back to the command war zone to report after the City D Base was completed.

”He said, ’If you’re not good enough, stop making excuses. There’s no shame in losing to a female Superpower User. The shameful thing is refusing to admit you lost.’”

The atmosphere was quite awkward after Samson Thorne finished speaking.

Fortunately, Liam Grant himself wasn’t present. Otherwise, he would have been so ashamed he’d want to crawl into a hole.

”Well said! Now that’s what you call having class.”

Leo Hale practically wanted to give the man a round of applause.

”He also said we should focus on cultivating talented Superpower Users like Nina Jacobs. If you’re interested, you can take up a position at the new base anytime.”

Daniel Hale said with a smile.

Nina Jacobs had brought him a lot of credit at the meeting today.

Of course, he was also proud of her.

”In that case, Nina, why don’t you consider it?”

Vera Coleman was still a little hopeful that Nina would agree.

However, Nina Jacobs shook her head. ”I have no plans for that.”

Her answer was what everyone had expected.

Vera Coleman sighed softly and said helplessly, ”I knew it.”

「Early the next morning.」

A commotion erupted outside the door, followed immediately by someone banging loudly on it.

”See? I told you trouble was coming for you.”

Sherry Renner, who had just woken up, heard the noise and immediately poked her head out.

The soundproofing in the temporary suite was mediocre, so everyone inside could hear the curses from outside:

”You dare to hit someone but not show your face? My son is a hero who saves people! Is this any way to treat a hero?”

”Exactly! My son was kind enough to go easy on you, but you beat him up like that! Do you have any conscience?!”

”I heard you’re just bitter because my brother broke up with you. Are you that desperate to be my sister-in-law? I think you’re just a woman nobody wants!”

”...”

The three people outside kept cursing, and Leo Hale, furious, moved to open the door.

But Nina Jacobs stopped him.

”Let them continue,” Nina Jacobs said.

”How can they twist the truth like that? Aren’t you going to yell back?”

Leo Hale gestured toward the door.

’Nina has so much self-control!’

”If we ignore them, someone else will deal with it,” Nina Jacobs said unhurriedly.

Justin Lawson and Myra Lawson lived diagonally across from them; there was no way they couldn’t hear the commotion.

A crowd must have already gathered outside to watch.

By now, even those who didn’t know what had happened before probably knew everything.

”Don’t worry. Your Uncle Hale has made preparations. He won’t let you suffer this injustice for nothing.”

Vera Coleman also seemed surprisingly calm.

”Uncle Hale??”

Nina Jacobs then realized that Daniel Hale seemed to have left early in the morning.

Meanwhile, on the first floor of the shelter, a video of a fight suddenly began playing on a large screen.

The screen, originally the library’s promotional display, was several meters tall.

It had now been repurposed to display notices for the survivors.

The video now playing had already attracted a large crowd of survivors.

”Isn’t that guy the strongest Fire Element Superpower User in the shelter? Who dares to challenge him one-on-one?”

”You don’t know? I was there to see it live. Keep watching. That female Superpower User is also a Fire Element...”

”Wait a minute. Weren’t people saying that Grant guy was going easy on her? It looks like he’s getting completely thrashed...”

”And she clearly gave him three free moves. She might as well have just stood there and let him hit her.”

”Pah! What a loser!”

The crowd in front of the large screen was abuzz with discussion.

Not far away, Daniel Hale and Ian Chandler quietly slipped away from the scene.

”I didn’t expect Uncle Hale to be so prepared,” Ian Chandler said.

The way the video was filmed was also quite clever.

Whether because of the distant angle or intentional blurring, Nina Jacobs’s face couldn’t be seen clearly.

It had been in Daniel Hale’s possession the whole time, but he hadn’t brought it out immediately to explain.

He was likely waiting for the situation to escalate.

”I suppose this gives Nina Jacobs some vindication.”

His contacts had informed him about Liam Grant’s family early that morning.

He had originally planned to hold onto the video for another two days and release it at the right moment, but it seemed the time had come.

The video was also edited so it wouldn’t cause any trouble for Nina Jacobs.

Of course, this matter had also been reported to Justin Lawson.

Nina Jacobs had expected the three members of the Grant Family outside to keep cursing for a while longer, but they soon fell silent.

The first person to come and stop them was Hannah Grant’s boyfriend.

”What did you say?”

Hannah Grant was unwilling to believe her boyfriend’s words.

”I told you, stop making a fool of yourselves here! Everyone in the shelter knows about your brother’s business now.”

Hannah Grant wanted to ask what was going on, but people around them had already started pointing and whispering.

”This family is so shameless. Their son lost that badly, and they still have the nerve to curse someone out.”

”I know, right? They used their ’number one in combat power’ title to curse out the food delivery staff every day. I heard they even demanded the kitchen make them special nutritious meals.”

”’Number one in combat power’? What a joke. He can’t even beat a young girl.”

”Everyone, please make way. Public disturbances are forbidden in the shelter...”

While everyone was talking, a guard had already arrived with a team to maintain order.

”Folks, the shelter has rules against causing public disturbances. Serious offenders will be expelled from the shelter.”

Chester Pearson had traded his wheelchair for crutches. He watched Jed Grant and the other two with a smirk.

By now, the three of them were being restrained by the guards.

”How can you treat the family of a hero like this? My son has saved so many people! You people in this shelter are bullies!”

Jed Grant shouted indignantly.

”After an investigation, it was found that Liam Grant, in pursuit of his own selfish interests during a mission, acted in a way that endangered the lives of other team members. Furthermore, this was not the first time. The rescue team has issued a statement stripping Liam Grant of his position as sub-detachment leader and expelling him from the team!”

Chester Pearson waved a stamped document in front of the crowd.

The faces of Jed Grant and the other two instantly turned ashen.

”How could this be? My brother... My brother is amazing...”

Hannah Grant refused to believe it. In her eyes, her brother, Liam Grant, was supposed to be a powerhouse, worshipped by all.

”Did you get something wrong? You’re expelling my son from the rescue team? You’ll live to regret this!”

Susan Warner, however, recovered quickly and pointed at Chester Pearson, cursing.
