Chapter 133: Chapter 133: Lying Low

”You killed my brother?”

Dylan Quinn asked, holding back the pain.

”Or did you think Seth Quinn didn’t deserve to die?

Letting him run wild, letting him kill for sport—is that what you, his big brother, taught him?

The one who got your brother killed... was you.”

Nina Jacobs watched as Dylan Quinn’s expression crumbled, and continued,

”Wayne Warner did absolutely nothing.

What right did you have to treat him like that?

Because deep down, you know better than anyone that you’re responsible for Seth Quinn’s death.

Otherwise, why would you hide what happened at Quinn Manor from Faye Quinn?

It’s because you’re afraid she’ll blame you. You’re afraid to face the consequences.”

”What do you know?!

I arranged for the finest weapons and plenty of men.

Seth was supposed to be perfectly safe under my protection.

It was you! It was all because you showed up!”

”And Wayne Warner... he’s just a security guard!

Why is he still alive?

Why is Seth dead?

He should be dead too!”

As if she had struck a nerve, Dylan Quinn shrieked his rebuttal.

”It seems your kind...

...never reflect on your own actions.”

Nina Jacobs shook her head. With every slight movement of the Fire Whip, another layer of flesh was flayed from his body.

”Let me go...

I... I won’t pursue my brother’s death any further.

Or... whatever your conditions are, we can negotiate.”

Dylan Quinn finally screamed from the pain.

”If you hadn’t touched Wayne Warner, we could have settled this privately,”

Nina Jacobs said coldly.

’This man, Dylan Quinn, can’t be left alive.’

Nina Jacobs had no patience for Dylan Quinn’s pleas.

The Heart of Strange Fire caused the already searing flames to surge.

In an instant, flames engulfed Dylan Quinn.

Pinned to the ground, he struggled futilely, unable to extinguish the inferno that consumed him.

[Host’s action detected. This will lead to the rescue of 148 human lives in several days. ”Selfless Savior” title triggered. Reward: 148 vials of Healing Potion.]

The system notification took Nina Jacobs by surprise.

She had killed Dylan Quinn for Wayne Warner’s sake, but more importantly, for her own self-preservation.

As long as Dylan Quinn was alive, he would have inevitably tracked her down over what happened at Quinn Manor.

He was a threat to her, too.

’I never thought killing Dylan Quinn would end up saving people.’

’What’s that all about?’

Looking at Dylan Quinn’s charred corpse, Nina Jacobs went ahead and incinerated the other bodies as well.

This was to avoid attracting zombies.

But she did find a badge on Dylan Quinn’s corpse.

The badge appeared to be made of solid gold.

Not knowing what it was, Nina Jacobs simply tossed it into her storage space.

”Looks like I’ve scored again,” she murmured, gazing at the trucks packed to the brim with weapons.

...

「The next morning.」

Shirley Lucas successfully broke away from The Alliance.

At the designated rendezvous point, Beckett Abbott and the rest of the mission team successfully met up with him.

”We’re not heading back to the shelter?”

Beckett Abbott asked, confused, after Shirley Lucas named a location.

They had been out for half a month.

It was time to head back.

”There’s one more place we need to go.”

Shirley Lucas recalled what Nina Jacobs had told him before she left.

”What for?”

Beckett Abbott was puzzled.

’Is there another unfinished mission?’

”Just to check something out. It’s probably nothing,”

Shirley Lucas said, his expression uncertain.

”Huh??”

Beckett Abbott and the others were even more baffled after looking up the address.

That place was pretty far away.

It seemed like a huge waste of time just to go take a look.

”Don’t ask questions. We’re going.

Think of it as sightseeing.”

Shirley Lucas replied.

The others were under Shirley Lucas’s command, so naturally, they didn’t dare object further.

Shirley Lucas gazed out the car window.

Today was the third day since Nina Jacobs had disappeared.

He had lost contact with her ever since the explosion back at The Alliance.

Before she disappeared, he had received a message from her on his communicator.

It told him to meet her at a golf course in the East Suburbs within three days.

He didn’t know why.

But their orders from two days ago had also stated...

...that they were to cooperate fully with all of Nina Jacobs’s actions.

In any case, their journey had been relatively smooth.

Although one of their teammates was injured, they still managed to reach the so-called golf course before nightfall.

”Wayne Warner?

He... You...”

Shirley Lucas thought he was seeing things.

’He was actually seeing Wayne Warner?’

’How on earth did Nina Jacobs get him out?’

Security at the Quinn Group was notoriously strict.

They even searched underneath vehicles...

”We were lucky. We didn’t get caught.”

Nina Jacobs was helping Wayne Warner as he slowly tried to walk.

Three days after using the Healing Potion, most of Wayne Warner’s external injuries had healed.

The skin and flesh flayed from his back were still slowly regrowing, and only the damage to his fingernails remained.

Of course, his shattered bones would also need more time to mend.

Nina Jacobs wasn’t a doctor, but she figured that Wayne Warner being able to slowly get up and walk had to be a good sign.

”You didn’t get caught?”

Shirley Lucas was even more astonished.

’So why did Nina bring Wayne Warner here?’

”I stumbled upon something.

Aren’t you a Space Superpower User? Perfect. You can take it all back with you.”

Nina Jacobs said, pointing to several vehicles in the distance.

She had kept a portion of the weapons for herself.

As for the rest, which were of no use to her, she intended for Shirley Lucas to take them to the shelter.

”Supplies?”

Shirley Lucas still didn’t know what was in the vehicles.

Meanwhile, Beckett Abbott and the others were already shouting excitedly in the distance.

Confused, Shirley Lucas ran over as well.

”So many weapons!!

Shirley, you have to see this!”

’Beckett Abbott decided he would never bad-mouth Shirley Lucas in his head again.’

’This trip was so worth it!’

For a moment, Shirley Lucas couldn’t process it.

When he saw the vehicles packed with weapons and supplies, he was filled with a mixture of surprise and utter shock.

”I remember these. They should be Quinn vehicles.

Dylan Quinn went out a few days ago and never came back.”

Shirley Lucas wanted to ask what had really happened.

”That’s right. They belonged to Dylan Quinn’s group,”

Nina Jacobs didn’t deny it.

”But we only saw these vehicles when we got here.”

”Something this good just falls into your lap?”

Beckett Abbott, who had run over, was stunned to hear this.

”Yeah, and we should be going,”

Nina Jacobs said.

’If we don’t leave soon, the Superpower User Alliance will probably send people to investigate.’

’She had already decided that if Shirley Lucas didn’t show up today, she would just put all the weapons into her storage space for the time being and find an opportunity to bring them out later.’

But now that he was here, it killed two birds with one stone.

”I get it. Don’t worry.

I won’t ask what I’m not supposed to.

Come back with us. I’ll handle things at the shelter.”

Shirley Lucas guessed that Nina Jacobs was hiding something.

He didn’t know Dylan Quinn personally, but he knew the man would never just abandon this many supplies and disappear...

But none of that mattered.

As long as Nina and her people were safe, that was enough.

”Wayne Warner and I will head back later.

Just be sure to tell my mom and the others that I’m okay,”

Nina Jacobs said.

”Where are you going?”
