Chapter 130: Chapter 130: Meeting So Soon

Nina Jacobs didn’t know how Wayne Warner was still hanging on by a thread.

She had never been so thankful that Wayne Warner was a Strength Element Superpower User.

Only a Strength Element Superpower User could have such a tenacious Life Force.

When she examined him, she found that even the nails on his ten fingers had been peeled off, his palms had been pierced, and the bones in his fingers had been smashed...

There wasn’t an inch of skin on his body left unscathed.

She had never seen anyone so grievously injured.

She knew the best thing to do was find a doctor for Wayne Warner, but the shelter was nowhere near here.

For now, she could only rely on Healing Potions.

Nina Jacobs poured several bottles of Healing Potion onto medical gauze pads and carefully applied them as wet compresses to his wounds.

She hoped it would at least stop Wayne Warner’s bleeding quickly.

”Don’t worry,” she murmured. ”I won’t let you die.”

After Nina Jacobs finished,

she pulled up the system map.

Dylan Quinn’s destination this time was a golf course.

The location was somewhat remote, even close to City J.

Nina Jacobs left the safe house and took out a van in the withered forest.

This was the same van that Cole Dempsey had ”contributed” before.

Its advantage was that it was large enough.

She folded down the van’s rear seats and laid out several layers of soft cushions and thick bedding on top.

When she returned to the safe house, she noticed that the blood seeping from Wayne Warner’s body seemed to have lessened.

She called Wayne Warner’s name several times, but unfortunately, he still didn’t respond.

Fortunately, the bed he was on was a movable, folding cot.

Still, it took quite an effort to push him into the van.

”Let’s go. I’ll go meet him for you.”

Nina Jacobs drove the van straight out of the withered forest.

She set the golf course as the destination on the system map.

The route planned by the system map would take about four hours to drive.

Nina Jacobs wasn’t worried about Dylan Quinn and his group arriving first.

According to the information she’d heard, the shipment of weapons and ammunition wouldn’t arrive until the next day.

In other words, even if Dylan Quinn’s group got there first, they would have to wait until the following day.

...

Under the scorching sun and intense heat,

a group of people was digging up Crystal Cores from the road.

These came from the zombies they had just killed.

They had also lost a few Superpower Users in the process.

”Mr. Quinn, do you think we should take a break?”

his assistant, Gideon Ulrich, asked.

They had been killing zombies for nearly two hours in the high heat, and everyone was exhausted.

Besides, it was already afternoon, and they hadn’t had a chance to eat lunch yet.

”A break?

Don’t even think about it.

You’ll earn the right to rest when we reach our destination.”

Dylan Quinn’s words made the faces of everyone around him pale slightly.

But no one dared to say a word and just continued silently digging for Crystal Cores.

”Mr. Quinn, there’s a vehicle behind us!”

a man carrying a pair of binoculars ran over and shouted.

”A vehicle?”

Dylan Quinn took the binoculars.

He felt the vehicle looked somewhat familiar.

”The Alliance has this type of vehicle too,”

”Could we have run into our own people by chance?”

Gideon Ulrich said.

”There are no missions scheduled for this road today.”

Because it was one of The Alliance’s vehicles, Dylan Quinn, though suspicious, did not prepare to attack.

The van quickly approached.

However, it showed no signs of stopping.

”I’m sure it’s one of our Alliance’s vehicles!

It even has the same logo sticker on it!”

Everyone watched blankly as the vehicle drove past them.

But they couldn’t see who was inside at all.

The Superpower User Alliance’s vehicles all had privacy film on the windows.

You couldn’t see inside from the outside.

Dylan Quinn frowned.

”Get the license plate number. We’ll run it back at base.”

’This van looks really familiar, but I just can’t place it.’

He thought that was the end of it.

But just as everyone finished digging up the Crystal Cores, one of the lookouts spotted something else:

”Mr. Quinn, that van... that van,”

”That van is coming back!”

”Coming back?

Are they coming back to say hello?”

Gideon Ulrich hadn’t yet realized the gravity of the situation.

”This is bad!

The van is leading a huge horde of zombies!”

”What did you say?”

Dylan Quinn snatched the binoculars, and his face changed the moment he saw the scene ahead.

It was indeed the same van that had just passed them.

But not far behind it was a massive, dark horde of zombies.

And besides zombies, there seemed to be zombie animals too!

”Get in the cars! Get out of here, now!”

Dylan Quinn yelled.

But it was already too late.

The van was already speeding toward them from straight ahead.

The window rolled down.

When Dylan Quinn saw the person inside, his face was filled with nothing but shock and rage.

The person in the driver’s seat was the very same woman who had been with Wayne Warner that day.

Nina Jacobs flipped Dylan Quinn a middle finger.

And gave him a provocative smile.

The van sped past the group.

Soon, the sounds of gunfire and fighting erupted behind it.

Nina Jacobs was instantly satisfied.

But when she looked at Wayne Warner lying in the back of the van, she didn’t feel vindicated at all.

To prevent them from escaping easily,

after driving a short distance, Nina Jacobs got out and piled up all the abandoned vehicles and rocks from the roadside into the middle of the road.

The goal was to block the road completely.

Several hundred zombies, along with more than ten zombie animals.

’Let them take their sweet time killing them all here.’

Truthfully, she hadn’t expected to run into Dylan Quinn and his group so soon.

The scent of blood from Wayne Warner had indeed made it easy to attract zombies along the way.

That’s why she’d had a flash of inspiration and came up with this nasty trick.

And by now, she was already on another route shown on the system map...

The rest of the way, Nina Jacobs drove much more smoothly.

She reached her destination shortly before four o’clock.

This area seemed to have been artificially sectioned off.

Some intersections were blocked, and there were indeed very few zombies.

Nina Jacobs found a relatively hidden, dilapidated building.

After clearing out the zombies inside, she placed the safe house in one of the rooms within the building.

She planned to let Wayne Warner rest and recover here for the next couple of days.

Moreover, from her position upstairs in the building, she had a perfect view of the surrounding area.

Including the situation inside the golf course.

She realized she hadn’t eaten all day.

At noon, Nina Jacobs had only eaten two small buns to tide herself over.

Now, she could feel her stomach rumbling with hunger.

Setting up a table and chair in the safe house, Nina Jacobs casually picked out a bowl of beef noodles from her food storage compartment.

She also grabbed a few lamb skewers.

The beef noodles were piping hot, as if they had just been made.

Even the chopped green onions on top were still fresh and green.

The lamb skewers were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Nina Jacobs ate her noodles while munching on the skewers, but the more she ate, the more she felt something was off.

She kept feeling a pair of eyes on her.

She turned her head and a look of pleasant surprise appeared on her face.

”You’re awake?!”

Nina Jacobs hadn’t expected Wayne Warner to wake up so quickly; she couldn’t help but be impressed by the incredible healing power of the Healing Potions.

”Does it hurt?”

Nina Jacobs sat beside Wayne Warner. She wanted to touch him but was afraid of causing him pain.

Wayne Warner blinked.

He looked at her with a gentle gaze.

But his eyes quickly shifted to Nina Jacobs’s hand.

”...”

Nina Jacobs stared at the lamb skewer she hadn’t yet put down and fell into a thoughtful silence.

She now seriously suspected that Wayne Warner had likely been woken up by the aroma of the food.

”Your body is still recovering,

you can’t eat this.”

After Nina Jacobs spoke, she clearly saw the light in Wayne Warner’s eyes dim again.

”...Want some lean-pork congee?”

Nina Jacobs asked.

”Yes...”

Wayne Warner blinked.

”Then wait a moment.”

Sure enough, after Nina Jacobs set up a table by the window and took out a few containers of lean-pork congee, Wayne Warner’s gaze was completely fixed on the food.
