Chapter 105: Chapter 105: Daily Task

Liam Grant was destined for great things.

Not just anyone could have those dreams that predicted the future.

’My son must be helped by a deity sent by Guanyin. That’s why he has special abilities that ordinary people don’t.’

’As for what’s happening now, it must be a trial from the heavens for my son.’

’After all, even Tripitaka had to endure eighty-one trials...’

’These people are just too foolish right now. There will definitely come a day when they regret this.’

”Regret?”

Chester Pearson was amused by Susan Warner’s words.

But by now, more and more people were gathering to watch, so he waved for the guards to take them away.

”This isn’t the first time he’s used someone as a shield against zombies, is it?”

Leo Hale asked, opening the door after the crowd had gradually dispersed.

”Yeah. Two people died before, it just wasn’t reported.

But it’s not like everyone’s blind. All you have to do is look into it and you’ll know.”

Chester Pearson replied.

”He doesn’t have a military background, so his moral standards are bound to be lower.

If you ask me, he never should have been allowed to join the team.”

Vera Coleman had taken a few days off because her daughter had returned.

She warmly invited Chester Pearson inside.

After coming in, Chester Pearson saw that Wayne Warner was still eating, and Nina Jacobs was sitting beside him, seemingly completely unaffected by the events outside.

”Actually, this was the old man’s idea today.

He was always holding on to the fact that Liam Grant provided Ian Chandler’s whereabouts, so he gave them some consideration.

He thought Liam was a talented individual, so he approved Dawn Donovan’s application.”

”Have you seen Uncle Hale?”

Nina Jacobs suddenly asked.

”He’s probably with Ian Chandler. Or maybe he went to another meeting.”

Chester Pearson eyed the white sugar rice cakes in Wayne Warner’s hands, but Wayne was clearly on guard, clamping his large hands over the plate.

Leo Hale patted Chester Pearson sympathetically.

”Don’t even think about snatching his food. He wouldn’t give you any even if the plate broke.”

”Honestly, you’re always trying to take Wayne Warner’s things.

There’s more in the cabinet. I’ll bring some over for you.”

Vera Coleman didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. They never had a shortage of food at home.

Besides what Nina Jacobs brought back each time, Ian Chandler would also frequently take things out of his space to share with them.

In her view, although Wayne Warner had a huge appetite, it didn’t seem to put any strain on them.

What Vera Coleman didn’t know was that, when no one was looking, Nina Jacobs would replenish most of whatever Wayne Warner ate.

From Chester Pearson, Nina Jacobs also learned that since the last incident at the booby-trapped mall,

the rescue team had encountered several more places that had been trapped by people.

However, he suspected those traps were not the work of the Superpower User Alliance.

Because that organization had no shortage of Space Superpower Users.

This also matched the intelligence Shirley Lucas had gathered.

”The number of injured has increased recently. My leg was given priority treatment, otherwise I’d still be in a wheelchair.”

Chester Pearson said with a wry smile.

The shelter’s infirmary currently had over 30 Healing Element Superpower Users, but at this stage, their healing abilities were limited to minor injuries.

An injury like his, deep enough to expose the bone and even damage it, still required medicine and treatment from a traditional doctor.

Healers could only provide support as best they could.

”In any case, you need to be careful, and that includes people on the inside.”

Nina Jacobs suddenly remembered the men in leather jackets she had encountered outside the community supermarket.

They had arrogantly boasted that they would take all the shelter’s supplies for themselves.

’If what he said is true, then we can’t rule out the possibility of someone inside the shelter guiding them.’

”No wonder some people say I’m not fit to lead a team.”

Chester Pearson gave another wry smile after hearing this.

’If someone like that really exists, I’d be the first to step up and kill them.’

”I think you’re quite suitable, actually.”

Nina Jacobs said as she organized her backpack.

The loiterers outside had all dispersed. It was time for her to head out.

”Where are you off to now?” Vera Coleman asked.

’Can this girl not sit still for a single day?’

”Hehe, I made plans with Nina Jacobs.

I asked her to take me out for a bit. But we promise,

we’ll be back within three hours.”

Leo Hale answered for Nina Jacobs.

Previously, he had always gone out with Chester Pearson. Ever since Chester was injured, he had been cooped up in the shelter for days.

After he complained to Nina Jacobs, she immediately agreed.

”Killing zombies? Come on, count me in.”

Chester Pearson was also getting restless from boredom.

He declared that though his body was weak, his spirit was willing.

Nina Jacobs looked at Chester Pearson and hesitated for a moment, but ultimately didn’t say anything.

She had already planned to go out and do her daily quest, so when Leo Hale asked her to take him, she had agreed.

However, Chester Pearson was being too naive.

Nina Jacobs had no intention of giving him special treatment just because his mobility was impaired.

Seeing two zombies pounce at him simultaneously, he could only use his Superpower to repel one while defending himself with the crutch in his other hand.

After Nina Jacobs’s system upgraded, the daily quest was no longer just 30 zombies.

[Daily Quest: Kill regular zombies (9/60).

Quest Reward: +60 Experience Points.]

These 60 zombies had to be killed by her own hands to count toward the total.

As for Leo Hale and Chester Pearson, she had her own assessment of them.

”Struggling now that you have fewer people?”

Nina Jacobs said, looking at the sweat-drenched Leo Hale and Chester Pearson.

Today, she had come to the area just outside the shelter’s outer defensive perimeter.

This place was relatively safe and had the fewest zombies.

Including Wayne Warner, there were only four of them.

And Wayne Warner was better at coordinating with her.

”No, it’s just... aren’t there a few too many zombies here today?”

Leo Hale said, kicking a zombie away.

”Are there?”

Nina Jacobs hadn’t really noticed.

”Now that you mention it, maybe there are, but it’s still within a normal range.”

Chester Pearson finally found his rhythm again.

’Just as I thought. After a few days without practice, even my Superpower feels rusty.’

”You were faster before because you had covering fire.”

Nina Jacobs was in no hurry. She planned to head back after using up her Superpower and finishing her daily quest.

Inside the shelter.

Everything was proceeding in an orderly fashion, as usual.

But Daniel Hale suddenly felt a strange palpitation in his heart.

He subconsciously rubbed his temples, assuming he was just overworked from the past few days.

”Hale, if your body can’t take it, you should go home and rest.

Your constitution can’t compare to us Superpower Users,

right? Hahaha.”

The meeting had already ended. Sheldon Holden sat across from Daniel Hale, feigning concern, but his words were laced with mockery.

”Thank you for your concern.

But why is this trash can full so quickly?

Oh, right, right, I remember now.

It’s because someone’s proposal was thrown in here.”

Daniel Hale tossed a crumpled ball of waste paper into the nearby trash can, feigning a sudden realization.

Sheldon Holden’s face immediately turned livid.

The proposal that had been thrown into the trash was the very one he had made.

Justin Lawson had only glanced at it before tossing it out.

That was why he had tried to make his presence felt when Daniel Hale seemed unwell.

”Supervisor Holden, you’d be better off focusing your mind on your work,

and less on me.”

Daniel Hale advised kindly as he walked past Sheldon Holden.

If Melody Barron could find some people with actual substance, he wouldn’t have any objections.

But this Sheldon Holden was as stupid as a pig and hopelessly short-sighted.

”What’s there to be so smug about?

He’s just an ordinary person, no matter how pleased with himself he is. Supervisor Holden, you don’t need to stoop to his level.”

A female assistant standing nearby quickly said, seeing Daniel Hale leave.

”You’re right. Without a Superpower,

he won’t last long anyway.”

Sheldon Holden sneered.

’Even the highly respected Justin Lawson is just an ordinary person.’

’Even if he builds a new base, how many years can he lead it?’
