After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

Chapter 36: Chapter 36: Generous Reward

Nina Jacobs was surprised by how proactive Leo Hale was.

”It’s too dangerous. No, absolutely not.”

Vera Coleman thought it would be best for them not to take too many risks.

Maybe it was like the acid rain period—if they just hid at home, they could wait it out and get through it safely.

”That’s impossible. Quick, look at this.”

Daniel Hale had discovered that an official Drakonia app on his phone was actually broadcasting important news.

”How is there a signal?”

Chelsea Walsh asked.

”This app doesn’t just use regular network satellite signals,”

”it can also use a secondary emergency radio wave.”

”It’s similar to how a radio works, so it’s not surprising we can see the news,” Ian Chandler explained.

”I see.”

Nina Jacobs hadn’t known about this in her past life. ’Was it because I was too busy just trying to escape?’

The broadcast showed footage of zombie virus outbreaks in various regions.

Although it kept stuttering, the picture was still reasonably clear.

On the streets, in apartments, inside residential complexes—everywhere, there were scenes of zombies frantically biting people.

When Daniel Hale opened it, the broadcast loop had just circled back to a few key sentences:

”First, the zombie virus is primarily transmitted through blood contact. Whether through a scratch or a bite, infection can spread rapidly.”

”Second, when attacking zombies, you must destroy their heads. Attacks on other parts of the body are ineffective.”

”Third, once a person turns into a zombie, the process is irreversible. Please do not hold onto any false hope...”

”To all our fellow citizens of Drakonia who are still alive, please do everything in your power to protect yourselves. If you have been burned by the acid rain, please isolate yourself from others immediately.”

”Do not give up hope. Our rescue teams may be delayed, but they will arrive!”

...

The message was on a loop, clearly an emergency broadcast.

’Did they actually take my suggestion?’

Nina Jacobs felt a little moved, but also gratified.

She had thought she would get another Healing Potion reward, but this time, there was nothing.

[Disaster relief information was not directly released by the host. Therefore, the ”Selfless Savior” title was not triggered.]

’So that’s how it works.’

Though Nina Jacobs felt a twinge of regret, she still thought it was completely worth it.

In the fifth year of the apocalypse, once the various nations had adapted to the survival-focused world, a new round of power struggles quietly began.

Drakonia had always been at a disadvantage in the competition between nations, even being slowly carved up by various powers, both foreign and domestic.

That was why she had advised Warren Rhodes to preserve his military strength.

When faced with the zombie virus outbreak, most other countries had chosen indiscriminate slaughter, even using nuclear weapons to destroy several cities.

Although this method was cruel, it was effective.

Drakonia, on the other hand, had immediately tried to rescue its living citizens.

And it was precisely because they reacted too quickly, combined with their lack of understanding of the zombie virus, that they had sacrificed a large number of troops.

In this life, she had notified Warren Rhodes in advance, hoping to reduce as many unnecessary sacrifices as possible.

[However, given the causal link between this outcome and the host, the system has already issued your reward 20 minutes ago. Please check for it promptly.]

’The reward has already been issued?’

Seeing the others completely absorbed by the news broadcast, Nina Jacobs quietly pulled up her system interface.

She still didn’t know what reward the system had given her.

When she saw the items on the interface, Nina Jacobs’s eyes lit up.

The rewards this time were generous:

”Superpower Energy Stone” x2, ”First Superpower Card” x5, ”Superpower Enhancing Potion” x300, ”Healing Potion” x100, ”Safe House Skin” x3.

Her System Experience Points also increased by 1,000.

It would take killing 1,000 zombies to gain 1,000 Experience Points.

Just the 1,000 Experience Points alone were enough to satisfy her.

Not to mention the most precious ”Superpower Energy Stone.”

’It’s just that it seems I can no longer use the ”First Superpower Card.” ’

[”First Superpower Card” is only applicable to humans without a Superpower.]

The system’s response was quite clear.

’I see. I’ve already used a First Superpower Card once, so I can’t use this reward myself.’

’But I can use it on others.’

As for the Safe House Skins, they could be used to freely change the safe house’s appearance depending on the situation.

Although the skins all looked like they were from a wasteland, that kind of appearance was actually safer.

”What should we do? Is this the end of humanity?”

Nina Jacobs snapped back to reality when she heard Leo Hale’s pessimistic tone.

She noticed that everyone present, including Daniel Hale, was pale with despair in their eyes.

She could guess why.

The hope brought by the end of the acid rain had been shattered just like that. It was easy for an ordinary person’s mental defenses to collapse.

”Let’s go downstairs. At least we’re all okay.”

Nina Jacobs didn’t offer much comfort, because platitudes and encouragement would be useless at a time like this.

”By the way, Nina, where’s Wyatt Jacobs?”

Vera Coleman went downstairs first, supported by Daniel Hale.

She realized Wyatt Jacobs was no longer downstairs.

Nina Jacobs sneered. ”Don’t worry about him.”

’With communications down, Wyatt Jacobs probably went to find a way to report back to Liam Grant’s group.’

”Do you still remember the plan we talked about earlier?”

After drinking a glass of cold water, Daniel Hale’s thoughts cleared. He felt they had to make a decision as soon as possible.

Nina Jacobs nodded. ”I suggest we leave first thing tomorrow morning.”

After the rain stopped, the floodwaters on the roads of City D receded quickly.

A full night would be enough.

”So soon?”

Vera Coleman was completely unprepared mentally.

Besides, the outside world was dangerous and terrifying for a pregnant woman like her.

”I agree with Miss Jacobs’s idea.

Once more people start to react, the roads will become impassable again, just like last time.”

Ian Chandler described what he had seen during his days outside.

Rescue teams in City D had been clearing blockades, so the roads might not be too difficult to travel.

”Right. And we’re not far from the city center. I think the most crowded places are the most dangerous.”

The central areas of the city would gradually be overrun by zombies, leaving almost no room for human survival.

”Then... let’s go, then.”

Vera Coleman knew that if they didn’t leave soon, they would run out of food and water at home.

Staying here was just waiting to die.

”Didn’t Leo Hale say he was going to take care of the zombie? Should we go together?”

Ian Chandler’s reaction surprised everyone present.

He was, after all, the youngest one there.

”Maybe you should sit this one out, kid.”

Leo Hale was amused by Ian Chandler.

In his eyes, Ian Chandler’s skinny frame looked like it would fall over with a single push.

However, reality soon slapped him in the face. Ian Chandler looked lean, but he was surprisingly strong.

Orson Walsh’s bloated corpse was already rotting, oozing thick, yellow fat, yet Ian Chandler managed to shoulder-throw it to the ground.

”Don’t make any unnecessary moves.

Besides dodging attacks, you only need to do two things: restrict its movement and kill it.”

Nina Jacobs chose to watch from the side.

Worried about getting hurt, Leo Hale had initially suggested they only let one zombie out, so now a few of them were surrounding the zombie, Orson Walsh.

”I... I think I can only dodge... Ah...”

Chelsea Walsh was so scared she collapsed onto the floor.

Snot and tears smeared her face as she realized she didn’t even have the ability to dodge.

”Why don’t you go rest for a bit.”

Nina Jacobs patted Chelsea Walsh on the shoulder and took her place.
