Chapter 10: Chapter 10: The Video Posted by ”Miss Sullivan

[Detected that Host’s actions will save 4 humans in 0 days. Triggering ”Selfless Savior” title. Reward: 4 bottles of Healing Potion.]

As the car slowly pulled out of the garage into the downpour, Nina Jacobs received a notification that she had triggered the ”Selfless Savior” title.

’Zero days, four people?’

’The timing is right, but it looks like there’s one extra person?’

Nina Jacobs was a little confused, but the mission was her top priority.

Nina Jacobs’s mission was to survive outdoors for 120 minutes, and time spent in the car didn’t count.

She had no intention of driving all the way, however. Once she left the villa complex, the streets were in utter chaos.

Countless cars clogged the roads, their occupants frantic.

They were trapped, unable to move forward or back.

Pedestrians frantically pounded on car doors, desperate to escape the rain, but few drivers were willing to open up.

After all, any contact with the acid rain would burn skin as if it were sulfuric acid.

Nina Jacobs parked at the entrance to the villa complex. From the glove compartment, she pulled out an acid-resistant hazmat suit, an umbrella, a protective face shield, and rain boots.

The hazmat suit was chemical-plant grade, providing head-to-toe protection, and the boots were industrial-grade as well.

The raincoat she wore underneath was light enough that it didn’t restrict her movement.

The mission timer would pause the moment she stopped moving, even if she was just spinning in place.

So, she had to keep moving forward.

Rain hammered down on the umbrella Nina Jacobs opened, a relentless PITTER-PATTER.

The umbrella wouldn’t last long before the downpour destroyed it, but it helped muffle the deafening sound of the rain.

The world around her became a cacophony of noise. Nina Jacobs opened her system and activated the ”Five Senses Enhancement” Skill she’d acquired earlier that day.

The Five Senses Enhancement Skill lasted for three hours and had a three-hour cooldown.

While it was active, Nina Jacobs felt the world around her become preternaturally clear.

Unlike the physical enhancements of a Superpower User, Five Senses Enhancement focused primarily on sight and hearing.

Even in the torrential, disorienting downpour, Nina Jacobs could clearly see everything within her field of vision.

Nina Jacobs stuck to the edge of the sidewalk, trying to keep a low profile.

’For some reason, this acid rain feels heavier than it was in my past life. It’s only been half an hour, and the ground is already starting to flood.’

At this same moment in her previous life, she had been terrified, hiding in a shopping mall with Liam Grant.

Back then, countless people had been drenched by the acid rain, their flesh melting away. In her panic, she had bound to the system.

Too bad the rewards for the life-threatening missions she’d completed had all gone to Liam Grant.

Nina Jacobs shook her head and kept walking, then she accidentally kicked something.

It was a mangled corpse, frozen in its final struggle. Despite the pouring acid rain, the body was bizarrely emitting steam.

It was gas, a byproduct of the intense acid corrosion.

Looking ahead, she saw the road was littered with more bodies just like it.

Even fallen branches on the ground smoked as if they were on fire.

Nina Jacobs activated the respirator under her face shield, and her breathing immediately eased.

’I almost forgot. It’s not just the corrosive rain; the gas it produces is toxic, too.’

’Inhaling too much of that white smoke can cause conjunctivitis, suffocation, and even blindness.’

Just then, a black sedan next to the sidewalk went berserk, ramming into the car ahead of it.

Acid rain had eaten through a seam in the car’s roof, and it had started leaking. The driver, trapped in the middle of the road, was trying to force a way out.

The car in front was pushed into another, and the chain reaction threw a whole cluster of vehicles into chaos.

Nina could even hear the drivers screaming and cursing at one another.

’They’ve all gone mad.’

Nina didn’t dare linger. She couldn’t stop them, so she could only hurry away.

A few seconds later, a series of massive explosions erupted behind her.

The blasts were so powerful that Nina was forced to a halt.

In the acid rain, the collisions had caused explosions.

The vehicles that had sparked from the impacts were instantly obliterated.

Several nearby cars were caught in the blast wave.

Acid rain poured through shattered windows, and the air filled with a chorus of screams and car alarms.

Nina pulled out Nanny Sullivan’s phone. From within the protection of her suit, she snapped a photo of the explosions behind her, then quickly posted it as a video with a text overlay:

”Judging by the explosion, the acid rain isn’t just corrosive. It reacts with flammable materials and metal powders to cause explosions and fires. Everyone, please be careful. It’s best not to go outside.”

’In her past life, explosions and fires like this had been everywhere. Traffic on major roads was paralyzed for days, and even government rescue teams weren’t spared.’

After Nina posted the video, her ”Selfless Savior” title began triggering nonstop. In just five minutes, she had received hundreds of bottles of Healing Potion.

’It’s this effective?’

The system’s notifications grew more and more frequent, so Nina temporarily muted them.

’She remembered the internet wouldn’t go down completely for another ten days.’

’Water and power would go first, then the internet and cell service.’

’Looks like I can post a lot more useful information over the next few days.’

With that in mind, Nina Jacobs posted a few more messages:

One warning that the white smoke produced by the acid rain’s corrosive effect was likely toxic.

Another emphasizing that raincoats offered a degree of protection, and that even a normal one could hold up for a short time.

And a third was a general speculation, voicing concern that the acid rain might cause infectious diseases.

She wasn’t worried about exposing herself. It was Nanny Sullivan’s phone, and she had just registered the video account under the name ”Miss Sullivan.”

What Nina Jacobs didn’t know was that her video had immediately drawn the attention of Drakonia’s highest levels of government.

”Issue the order immediately! All rescue vehicles are to be swapped for flame-retardant models.

Avoid using firearms and ammunition during rescue operations! Everyone must wear protective face shields!”

Inside Drakonia’s Department of Emergency Management, Warren Rhodes calmly issued the directives without a moment’s hesitation.

”Director Rhodes, the lab results aren’t back yet. Shouldn’t we wait?”

A nearby staff member had also watched the video from ”Miss Sullivan” several times. According to procedure, they were supposed to analyze the acid rain’s composition before formulating a response.

”No. The people’s lives are our top priority. This has to be done as quickly as possible. Now!”

Warren Rhodes replied.

This wasn’t an ordinary disaster; it was a bizarre, global cataclysm. Their most urgent task was to save as many Drakonian lives as possible.

”Yes, sir!!”

Meanwhile, Nina Jacobs had finally used the phone’s GPS to find her nanny’s son, Ben Stone.

”You’re Ben Stone?”

Nina looked at the trembling man before her. His face and any exposed skin were covered in corrosive burns from the acid rain. The moment he saw her, his eyes lit up with hope.

”My mom sent you to get me, right? Where is she?

Hurry up and drive me to the hospital! I need to get to a hospital!”

”The car can’t get through,”

Nina said, shaking her head in regret.

”That’s not good enough! My mom knows rich people, right?

She’s on great terms with them.

Make that rich family figure out a way to get me there.”

Ben Stone’s voice broke into a sob as he reached out to grab Nina.
