Chapter 14: Chapter 14: Counter-kill

But then she looked up at the smiling Nina Jacobs and felt like she was overthinking things.

”Mm, that’s good then.”

Nina Jacobs stopped bothering Jenna Sullivan and took a bottle of milk from the refrigerator before walking toward the living room.

Only then did Jenna Sullivan let out a sigh of relief.

The moment Leo Hale came downstairs, he saw a very cheerful Nina Jacobs fiddling with a tablet.

The aroma of breakfast filled the living room. Aside from the acid rain still pouring madly outside, everything was just like any other day.

”You’re still in the mood to download TV shows?”

Leo Hale had barely slept all night.

He had many friends and brothers, and quite a few had lost contact because of the acid rain last night. Some were even dead...

”Yeah, so I can watch them slowly later.”

Nina Jacobs replied without even looking up.

”Are your friends... are they all okay?”

Leo Hale couldn’t help but ask.

”They should be.”

In fact, Nina Jacobs had already received video calls from Chloe Pearson and Joanna Lynn last night.

The two of them were both excited and terrified.

If it weren’t for Nina Jacobs, they both would have certainly met with disaster.

Seeing that Nina Jacobs was also safe and sound at home, Chloe and Joanna hung up, relieved.

”That’s right. With a personality like yours, you probably don’t have many friends.”

Just as Leo Hale finished speaking, he received a rap on the head.

”Is that any way to talk to your sister?”

Daniel Hale didn’t look like he had slept well, either, and neither did Vera Coleman.

”Mr. Hale, Ma’am, breakfast is ready.”

Jenna Sullivan had been listening to the commotion in the living room. She felt a pang of guilt, but thinking of her son’s future, she gritted her teeth and brought out the breakfast she had prepared.

”Nanny Sullivan, today’s breakfast is so lavish.”

Vera Coleman was peeling a hard-boiled egg for Nina Jacobs.

”Y-yes, Ma’am. Since you’re pregnant, I thought I should make a little extra for you to eat.”

Jenna Sullivan forced a laugh.

She watched Nina Jacobs take a bite of the porridge in her bowl, and the heavy weight in her heart finally lifted.

”By the way, Nanny Sullivan, go and clean up the empty room upstairs for me. I want to prepare a study for Nina.”

Vera Coleman instructed.

”Yes, Ma’am.”

Jenna Sullivan didn’t want to stay here any longer, either.

It wasn’t until she entered the kitchen that she realized her hands were shaking.

’I just don’t know how things are going on my son’s end.’

Although Jenna Sullivan grabbed the cleaning tools, she had no intention of cleaning at all.

The voices downstairs grew quieter and quieter, until finally, the entire villa fell silent.

She decided to go down and check the situation.

Jenna Sullivan had used a large dose of sleeping pills.

Although she didn’t know where Ben Stone got them, the effect was clearly very good. When she went downstairs, the whole family was asleep, leaning against the sofa.

The breakfast had been completely eaten.

”How is it?”

From the corridor outside the door, Ben Stone’s voice sounded somewhat impatient.

He had drunk all the water in his hand but still felt thirsty.

”They’re all asleep.”

At that moment, Jenna Sullivan felt as if her heart was about to leap out of her chest.

Especially when she saw the axe in Ben Stone’s hand.

For some reason, she felt that the son before her was a little different.

The gauze on his face couldn’t hide his slightly sinister expression, and his eyes were filled with greed.

Ben Stone grinned, raising the axe in his hand as he walked toward Nina Jacobs and the others.

”Son, why don’t we just take the stuff and go?”

Jenna Sullivan grabbed Ben Stone’s arm.

However, Ben Stone acted as if he hadn’t heard her, and his strength was so great that he easily broke free.

”Kill... kill them! After today, everything here will be ours!”

Ben Stone bumped into the coffee table, and the clinking of water glasses made him pause.

He poured himself a glass of water and gulped it down.

Then, his eyes met a pair of beautiful, mocking ones.

CRACK.

The water glass shattered on the floor. Ben Stone raised his axe at Nina Jacobs, whose eyes were now open.

”How are you awake?!”

”I was waiting for you.”

Nina Jacobs laughed out loud.

’How can this be? She clearly drank the porridge just now.’

Jenna Sullivan was flustered for a moment.

’But it’s fine. It’s just one little slip of a girl. She and her son can handle it together.’

”Nanny Sullivan, I never would have thought you were this kind of person.”

Vera Coleman sat up as well.

Immediately after, Daniel Hale and an angry-faced Leo Hale also stood up.

Their eyes were clear, not at all like they had been drugged.

”Impossible! I prepared that medicine a long time ago!”

’Could Jenna Sullivan have messed things up?’

Ben Stone viciously turned his head to glare at Jenna Sullivan.

”I really put it in! I put it all in!”

Jenna Sullivan was on the verge of tears.

Before anyone could react, Ben Stone swung the axe at Nina Jacobs.

”Watch out!”

”Nina!”

Vera Coleman reflexively lunged toward Nina Jacobs, even extending her arm to try and block the sudden attack for her.

However, Nina Jacobs gave Ben Stone no chance to get close.

She ducked under the axe, then drove a punch upward into Ben Stone’s already festering face.

”AHH!!”

Ben Stone screamed in pain.

By now, Nina Jacobs had already flashed behind him.

With the force of an elbow strike, she slammed Ben Stone straight to the ground.

Ben Stone distinctly heard the sound of his own bones breaking.

Leo Hale and Daniel Hale finally reacted, using their hands and feet to pin Ben Stone down.

”You scared me to death! Are you okay?”

Vera Coleman thought her daughter was incredibly cool, but she completely failed to notice that Nanny Sullivan, who had been kneeling on the floor just a moment ago, was now rushing toward her.

”I’m fine.”

Nina Jacobs didn’t even consider Jenna Sullivan and her son a threat.

She had never formally studied martial arts, but in her past life, she had relied solely on her Speed Element Superpower to kill zombies, and all her moves were ruthless.

Before Jenna Sullivan could even reveal the dagger hidden in her sleeve, Nina Jacobs grabbed her by the hair with one hand.

THUD.

Jenna Sullivan’s head was slammed directly onto the coffee table.

Before she could even let out a scream, Jenna Sullivan was knocked unconscious.

Nina Jacobs clenched her fists.

’I’m already controlling my strength, trying my best not to kill anyone before things really begin.’

”Mom! You bitch! I’m going to kill you!”

Ben Stone struggled and yelled.

”You shut your mouth!”

Leo Hale went over and kicked Ben Stone.

Daniel Hale had already found a rope, and father and son worked together to bind Ben Stone hand and foot.

”Don’t worry, your mom isn’t dead yet.”

Nina Jacobs didn’t kill Jenna Sullivan because she was still useful alive.

”Nina, you know kung fu?”

Leo Hale’s eyes lit up.

He had been completely stunned by Nina Jacobs’s clean and decisive moves just now.

”A little.”

”Thanks to Nina. Otherwise, we’d all have been goners today.”

Daniel Hale was still shaken.

He and Vera Coleman had both received a message from Nina Jacobs that morning.

The message said that Jenna Sullivan was going to drug them. Although they didn’t quite believe it, they still played along with her act.

They never expected it to be true.

”The police. Right, we need to call the police right now.”

Vera Coleman picked up her phone, but after dialing, she found the line was constantly busy.

”The acid rain hasn’t stopped, and the rescue teams outside are already stretched thin. I don’t think we’ll be able to leave for the next few days,” Daniel Hale said.

But for now, they still didn’t know what to do.

”Just lock them up.”

Nina Jacobs crouched down and peeled back the gauze on the bloody, mangled side of Ben Stone’s face, a satisfied smile spreading across her lips.

No one saw her expression except for Ben Stone.

”What are you planning to do?”

Ben Stone had a bad feeling.

”You’ll find out soon enough,” Nina Jacobs said in a low voice.

”There’s security footage, so logically, we already have evidence. But what if these two end up dead?”

Leo Hale had just been checking the home security cameras. Aside from the part where Nina Jacobs subdued Ben Stone, everything Jenna Sullivan and her son did had been recorded.
