After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

Chapter 16: Chapter 16: Getting the Real-time Map

The Wellmart Convenience Store was in a low-lying area, and rainwater was already seeping in under the door.

Soon, the city’s drainage system would collapse, and this place would surely be the first to be flooded by the acid rain.

After storing all the supplies from the convenience store into her system storage slots, Nina Jacobs discovered a stockroom inside.

The stockroom was also piled high with full cases of supplies.

After she had stored all the supplies from the stockroom, the system sent a notification:

[Detected that ”Zero-Dollar Shopping Mission 1” is complete. Reward has been distributed.]

’Another storage slot acquired.’

Nina remembered having only 15 storage slots in her past life. Now, including a few dedicated ones, she already had five.

After Zero-Dollar Shopping Mission 1 was completed, Mission 2 appeared on her interface.

[Apocalyptic Survival Mission Activated: Zero-Dollar Shopping Mission 2

Mission Details: In one day, the Sunrise Food Factory will explode. To prevent the waste of supplies,

clear out 80% of the factory’s goods.

Mission Reward: 1 System Storage Slot, +90 Experience Points.

Mission Difficulty: ★★★]

’A Three-Star mission.’

Sunrise Food Factory was a long-established local food plant. The difficulty of a Zero-Dollar Shopping mission was determined by the quantity of supplies, which meant there was a considerable amount inside.

It was still early. After leaving the convenience store, Nina pulled the same trick and completely cleared out an unmanned fruit store nearby.

Similarly, the cash register in the fruit store had also been emptied of cash.

A little further ahead was a pharmacy.

But quite a few people were trapped inside.

They were pounding on the glass door, hoping Nina would notice them.

Seeing that someone was filming her with a phone, Nina thought for a moment before walking over.

However, she didn’t get too close, stopping just outside the door.

She was wearing a raincoat and a face mask, so no one could see her face.

”Can you figure out a way to get us out of here?” someone shouted.

Nina shook her head, indicating she was powerless to help.

”Then can you bring us some food? I’ll pay you.”

A middle-aged woman took out her wallet.

Nina ignored the wallet. Instead, with some effort, she pulled a package out from under her raincoat and tossed it inside.

Then, she turned and left.

”Is it food?”

People immediately crowded around.

They had missed three meals. It wasn’t three days, but they were still starving.

”Is this... a raincoat?”

To everyone’s disappointment, there was no food inside the package.

It was just a pack of foldable raincoats and shoe covers.

”What are we supposed to do with this? What’s the use?”

An old man angrily tossed it aside.

”Does that person want us to go outside?”

Juliana Sinclair did want to go home. She had been waiting for the rain to stop, but as the minutes and seconds ticked by, she saw no sign of it letting up.

”It’s too dangerous to go out! That’s acid falling from the sky!”

”Yeah, yeah, let’s just wait a little longer.”

”Why give us this instead of food...”

By now, Nina was already far away.

She hadn’t given them food because she hoped they would use the raincoats to leave on their own.

The pharmacy and the Wellmart were on the same street. At the current rate of rainfall, the area would be flooded in less than two days.

There was no shortage of food outside, if only they were willing to go out and get it.

If they weren’t willing to take even this simplest first step, giving them food would be pointless.

People like that would be quickly eliminated by the cruel apocalypse.

[Detected that Host’s actions will save two human lives in two days. Triggering ”Selfless Savior” title. Reward: 2 bottles of Healing Potion.]

’Only two? Still worth it.’

Nina had stockpiled a lot of raincoats and rain gear. Once the acid rain period was over, the raincoats would be useless anyway.

It was better to trade them for a few more of the system’s Healing Potions.

After driving down a few back roads, Nina finally parked her car on the roadside, two kilometers away from the food factory.

She remembered there was a gas station just ahead.

In her past life, this gas station had been one of the explosion sites.

The gas station was long deserted. The gas pumps were all intact, with no signs of leakage.

’The pumps are fine, so how could it have exploded?’

Nina walked a lap around the gas station, her gaze finally locking onto three large tanker trucks parked behind it.

These types of tankers were used specifically for transporting gasoline and diesel.

Nina’s eyes lit up.

She hurried forward and, using all her strength, finally managed to twist open a valve on top of the tanker, creating a small gap.

’That’s enough.’

Nina carefully held her umbrella. Even though she had only opened a small gap, with her system’s collection function, it would only take an instant to collect all the gasoline from one truck.

After collecting the contents of all three tanker trucks into her system’s dedicated energy storage slot, Nina was drenched in sweat under her raincoat.

[Host has completed the hidden ”Zero-Dollar Shopping Mission.” Triggering ”The Energy Collector” title. Reward: one ”Real-time Map.”]

[Detected that Host’s actions will save 56 human lives in 3 days. Triggering ”Selfless Savior” title. Reward: 56 bottles of Healing Potion.]

The sudden, surprising rewards made Nina feel like it had all been incredibly worth it.

’What’s a Real-time Map?’

’I can’t believe there was a hidden Zero-Dollar Shopping Mission.’

Nina opened the system reward and was shocked to find it was a map, like something from Google Maps, showing the surrounding three-kilometer area!

Not only could she see congested roads, but she could also clearly see every street and her own position.

’I never had anything this good before,’

’but to get 56 potions... This must mean the explosion won’t happen here anymore.’

Nina walked out of the gas station, completely satisfied.

On her way, Nina received a call from Vera Coleman.

She had no choice but to stop and take shelter under some eaves.

Vera clearly sighed in relief upon hearing Nina’s voice.

”Nina, honey, where are you right now?

A friend of yours came to visit.

He also said... there’s something wrong with the person you brought home last night...”

”Who?”

Nina had a bad feeling.

”Nina, it’s me.”

Liam Grant’s voice came through the phone.

After hearing him, Nina emotionlessly hung up.

Liam Grant didn’t know how to react for a moment.

’Did Nina really not want to talk to him that badly?’

But a moment later, Leo Hale’s phone rang.

”Got it. Looks like I don’t have to be nice to him anymore.”

Leo Hale hadn’t expected Nina to call him instead, but this was a perfect opportunity to repay a favor to her.

Leo Hale stood up with a smirk, looked at Liam Grant, and said,

”Nina asked me to tell you that you two have already broken up,

and she told you to get the hell out of her life.”

”No matter what, please, you have to believe me,

the person Nina brought back yesterday might have an infectious disease!”

Liam Grant had shown no signs of awakening a Superpower all day, and he had come here to find Nina and try his luck.

He just hadn’t expected Nina to be out.

”So that’s why she’s been so down these past few days,”

”it was all because of you! And you still have the nerve to show up? Get out, get out! Don’t come back to my house.”

Daniel Hale was afraid of making Vera Coleman angry, even though he was furious himself.

’This guy is useless aside from his pretty face.’

’And he had the audacity to dump Nina?’
