Chapter 34: Chapter 34: Only He Doesn’t Have One

Preserve combat strength.

This was by no means about playing it safe or leaving others to die.

It was a strategic trade-off.

What they had to do was gather the strength of Drakonia and its military to deal with this virus in the safest way possible!

They couldn’t send people to their deaths, and they certainly couldn’t let them die in vain!

”Yes, sir!”

Harrison Driscoll and the others took half a step back, but then they saw Warren Rhodes raise his weapon and aim it at Corbin Lawson without hesitation.

”Listen up! To take down a zombie, you must destroy its head. Attacks to any other part of the body are useless!

Once someone turns into a zombie, the process is irreversible. Don’t harbor any illusions—kill them on sight!”

Warren Rhodes loudly recited the words that had been seared into his memory.

As if giving a demonstration, Warren Rhodes fired several consecutive shots at Corbin Lawson.

Harrison Driscoll found, to his disbelief, that no matter how deadly the attack, it had almost no effect on Corbin Lawson.

’Can the infected not be killed?’

”Look closely. He’s not human anymore.

If he scratches or bites you, you’ll become just like him!”

”YES, SIR!!!”

BANG.

After Warren Rhodes shot Corbin Lawson between the eyes, he finally collapsed.

”Follow me to the command center.

We need to come up with a better battle plan, now!”

Hearing the screams rising and falling all around him, Warren Rhodes knew that every single second was precious.

Otherwise, Drakonia was truly in peril!

...

Nina Jacobs heard the sirens blaring everywhere, too.

It was almost the exact same scene as in her past life.

The only difference was that this time, the outbreak had started a little earlier.

Fortunately, she had already made that phone call.

’I just wonder if it will do any good.’

Just then, a strange yet familiar power surged through her. Nina Jacobs knew this feeling all too well.

Feeling the changes in her body, Nina moved from the window to the door several meters away in just three seconds.

Her Speed Element Superpower was back!

[Host has awakened Speed Element Superpower. Title ”Hardworking Awakener” triggered. Reward: one Second Superpower Card!]

’A Second Superpower Card?!’

Nina remembered that in her past life, she only received this reward after her Speed Element Superpower had advanced.

’I can’t believe I got it this early.’

In her past life, after getting the Second Superpower Card, she had secretly used it to help Wyatt Jacobs awaken his Gold Element Superpower.

This led Wyatt Jacobs to believe he was just a ”late bloomer.”

’I wonder if I can use this Second Superpower Card on myself.’

”System, can I use the Second Superpower Card on myself?”

[Affirmative. The host can use the Second Superpower Card to acquire any Superpower other than their First Superpower. The two will not interfere with each other.]

”What about my Speed Element Superpower? Will that be affected?”

’It would be a huge waste to accidentally invalidate such a precious Superpower card.’

[Unaffected. The host’s own Superpower and the Superpower rewarded by the system do not interfere with one another.]

The system’s answer was clear, so Nina Jacobs relaxed and opened the Second Superpower Card.

Just like with her First Superpower, the system repeated the introduction.

This time, from over a dozen options, Nina Jacobs chose the Earth Element Superpower.

She had one reason and one reason only: to make better use of her safe house.

The Earth Element Superpower not only possessed the defensive power that the Fire Element Superpower lacked, but it was also quite useful for escaping.

Moreover, if she wanted to conceal the safe house’s existence, the Earth Element Superpower was undoubtedly the best choice.

’The only question is whether I have enough Superpower Energy.’

A small flame flickered to life in Nina Jacobs’s right hand, while a cluster of sand swirled in her left.

The flame and the sand merged. From the outside, it looked like a completely ordinary flame.

’It can be used like this?’

Finding it fun, Nina Jacobs tried it a few more times and, as expected, felt her Superpower draining away.

[Host has used their First and Second Superpowers simultaneously. Title ”Superpower Fusion” triggered. Reward: one Superpower Energy Stone!]

”What’s a Superpower Energy Stone?”

Nina was certain she hadn’t seen this in her past life.

It was most likely because she hadn’t used the Superpower card on herself in her past life.

[A Superpower Energy Stone can store Superpower for the host to use. The Superpower within the stone can be replenished using Zombie Crystal Cores.]

”So it’s like a battery?”

Nina Jacobs got it.

In her past life, she’d considered Crystal Cores to be practically useless. This time around, it looked like they were going to be treasures.

In other words, as long as she had enough Crystal Cores, the Superpower Energy Stone could continuously replenish her Superpower.

”This is totally overpowered,”

Nina Jacobs muttered to herself.

For now, however, she didn’t plan on revealing her Earth Element and Speed Element Superpowers.

To the outside world, she was just a Fire Element Superpower User.

Suddenly, a cry of surprise came from downstairs.

Nina thought something dangerous had happened, but it was just Chelsea Walsh awakening her Superpower.

”I-I-I-I... I can make this much static electricity?!”

Chelsea Walsh stared at the CRACKLING blue sparks in her palm, utterly astonished.

Everyone in the house was on edge from the sirens and screams outside, and it took them a moment to register what was happening.

Only Wyatt Jacobs was staring at the ball of electricity with an inscrutable expression.

”You actually awakened a Thunder Element Superpower?”

His tone was tinged with envy, but more than that, disbelief.

’If only I could awaken a Thunder Element Superpower, too.’

’With my talent, I’d definitely become a powerful Superpower User.’

”Thunder Element Superpower?”

”What kind of Superpower is that?”

Chelsea Walsh and the others were still in shock, so they didn’t notice the sour note in his voice.

”Ah, ha ha, I just saw someone mention it online before,”

”and it just seemed kind of similar.”

Wyatt Jacobs, realizing he’d said too much, quickly tried to explain.

The internet was already down, so even if they wanted to check his story, they couldn’t.

But Leo Hale was listening intently.

”Then what kind of Superpower is mine? Gold Element?”

As he spoke, he manipulated a knife on the table. Ever since accidentally blocking a hammer attack two days ago, he had been trying to control other metal objects.

He’d discovered his Superpower wasn’t just limited to picking locks.

”What? You awakened a Superpower, too?”

Wyatt Jacobs looked completely devastated.

’It’s my Gold Element Superpower from my past life! If only I could awaken it sooner!’

But unfortunately for him, he showed no signs of awakening whatsoever.

”And why shouldn’t I awaken a Superpower? What kind of thing is that to say?”

Leo Hale already disliked Wyatt Jacobs; if not for Nina, he never would have let him in the house in the first place.

”So this is what they call awakening a Superpower,”

Nina Jacobs said, feigning sudden realization.

”Then what’s this?”

As she spoke, a small flame flickered to life in her hand.

Wyatt Jacobs was stunned yet again.
