The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

Chapter 701: Chapter 284 My Mother-in-law is a Loyal Servant (Finale)_3

”I know, father, your identity is sensitive, and it’s hard for you to speak directly to the Saint. I, I will ask to see the Saint, and ask him to allow mother to return to the Southwest to recuperate, while I, having grown up in the Capital City and liking reading, am more suited to stay in the Capital City!”

Wei Yanting, as a precocious and sensitive-minded male lead, had already sensed the sensitivity and awkwardness of his own identity.

He was the legitimate eldest son of the Marquis Mansion, yet he did not grow up there and was not close to his biological parents, nor did he feel a sense of belonging to Marquis Pingnan’s Mansion.

The Saint intended to restrain the Marquis Mansion and would surely start with him.

And like the Saint, the cunning Marquis Pingnan could also foresee this.

In fact, Marquis Pingnan had little affection for this son, who he had acknowledged partway through life, let alone trust.

Deep inside, he didn’t want Wei Yanting to be the Princely Heir.

Because he knew if there was an opportunity for Marquis Pingnan to be internally breached, then Wei Yanting would be an important aide!

Wei Yanting: ... Damn it, I must have had terrible luck for generations to be born into Zhang Family’s belly.

It was because of such a so-called smart biological mother that he couldn’t rely on either side.

However, Wei Yanting, being the male lead, naturally wouldn’t be trapped by this dilemma.

Deep inside, he truly felt no sense of belonging to the Marquis Mansion, but he knew how to disguise it, even to deceive.

He simply spoke openly of those well-understood yet unspeakable aspects, presenting an honest demeanor to his father: ”Father, in the eyes of others, I grew up in the city streets, without the family education of the Marquis Mansion!”

”Perhaps I could become the rebel of the Marquis Mansion, but they forget, my surname is Wei. If the Marquis Mansion falls, I will be implicated too!”

”Even if I were to betray my family to find peace for myself, I could not escape public ridicule!”

”I, Wei Yanting, may not become a sage renowned for generations, but neither do I want to become the despised failure of the family, the Wei Family’s rebel!”

Wei Yanting’s meaning was clear: dear father, I know my identity is easily exploitable.

I really don’t hold much emotion for you or for the Marquis Mansion.

But I have a brain!

I know that I and the Wei Family are tied together, we prosper and lose together.

Even if I can’t sacrifice myself for the Wei Family, I won’t help outsiders to scheme against Marquis Pingnan’s Mansion!

So, you need not perceive me as an enemy; in front of our common family interests, we are allies.

Indeed, upon hearing these words from Wei Yanting, Marquis Pingnan’s gaze softened.

Yes, emotions are too intangible; tangible interests are much more reliable.

Perhaps there was little father-son affection between him and his legitimate eldest son, but they were the most natural allies of interest.

If the Saint planned to use Wei Yanting to restrain, or even disintegrate the Marquis Mansion, then the mansion could similarly leverage Wei Yanting to demonstrate loyalty, or perhaps deploy a double agent.

The Saint indeed could offer Wei Yanting glory and wealth, but a person who betrays their clan, even if living well, cannot escape infamy.

Moreover, even the Saint might not always favor Wei Yanting.

Once Marquis Pingnan’s Mansion falls, Wei Yanting would lose his utility, and the Saint might just sacrifice Wei Yanting for a reputation.

It was tough for Wei Yanting, just thirteen, to think through all this.

Clever!

As a qualified politician, compared to whether there was affection with the heir, Marquis Pingnan valued more whether his legitimate eldest son was intelligent.

As long as he was smart, he could make the wisest choices.

And to preserve Marquis Pingnan’s Mansion, Wei Yanting would gain both fame and benefits and become the true winner.

Realizing this, Marquis Pingnan’s gaze towards Wei Yanting became even more loving, ”Good, good, my son truly is a descendant of the Wei Family! However, I’m afraid you’ll have to endure some hardship next.”

”Not hardship, being able to alleviate father’s worries, being able to contribute to the Marquis Mansion, is what I should do.”

Wei Yanting, noting that Marquis Pingnan had finally let down his guard, quietly breathed a sigh of relief, ”With father and mother well in the Southwest, I can stay in the Capital City with peace of mind!”

”How could Daddy let you stay in the Capital City alone?”

Dealing with a smart person is this simple, Marquis Pingnan, hearing the implication in Wei Yanting’s words, quickly said with a smile, ”I also have some manpower and properties in the Capital, all of these will be handed over to you!”

”And about your mother, I will also take good care of her and bring her back to the Capital. She may not manage the household, but she will always be Marchioness Pingnan!”

Wei Yanting got what he wanted, his smile growing even more radiant.

He might never have a close loving relationship with his parents, but he also wouldn’t become anyone’s pawn, nor would he sacrifice himself for anything.

He would craft a brilliant future with his own efforts.
