The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

Chapter 721: Chapter 291: The Swindler Again (Part 7)_2

Jia Cong couldn’t help but give a bitter smile, ”I’m probably the most tragic and useless transmigrator in history.”

It’s really a disgrace to transmigrators.

Jia Cong’s psychological resilience was not bad; even at this time, he still had the mood to ridicule himself.

”Brother Cong, Brother Cong!”

A suppressed shout came through the rear window of the small cabin.

Jia Cong’s eyes lit up, ”Is that you, Brother Huan?”

”Who else could it be if not me?”

”Hmph, now you know how good I am to you, don’t you!”

”Here-- this is the medicine for your wound; I stole it from my aunt. Oh, and here’s a packet of snacks for you to nibble on!”

Pushing open the window from the outside, Jia Huan squeezed a white porcelain bottle filled with wound medicine and a paper-wrapped package through the gap.

Jia Cong struggled to get up, went to the window, and carefully received the items.

”Brother Huan, thank you!” Jia Cong’s voice was noticeably nasal.

He was genuinely moved, having arrived in the world of the Red Building for no reason, becoming an unfavored Concubine Son, neglected by his real father and brothers, and bullied by troublesome slaves.

The only warmth came from ”the frostbitten little kitten,” Jia Huan.

”Alright, alright, focus on healing; what’s the use of talking about this?”

Jia Huan was made somewhat embarrassed by Jia Cong.

Maybe because he hadn’t been playing with Jia Cong recently and had no one to talk to, he felt extremely pent-up. He ended up sitting on Zhao Guoji’s shoulder, behind a wall, and started to prattle on to Jia Cong.

”Brother Cong, have you heard? Your illustrious brother, the famous Second Young Master Lian from our Jia family, has returned.”

Jia Huan deliberately spoke sarcastically as he brought up the latest gossip in the Jia family.

Jia Cong was stuffing his mouth with snacks when he heard this and couldn’t help but recall the original book he had read—

Um, if he remembered correctly, Lin Ruhai should already be dead, with Jia Lian taking care of the funeral matters and returning to the Capital City with the Lin Family’s fortune of millions of taels of silver.

And then, it was the most illustrious and prosperous time for the Jia family—Jia Yuanchun becoming a Consort, the construction of Grand View Garden, followed by the Lantern Festival visit.

”...Hmm.” Lin Ruhai died, and Sister Lin’s tragedy was irreversible.

If Jia Cong were merely a spectator, he would sigh twice in pity.

But the problem was, he was now in the midst of the Red Building himself, with his own life hanging by a thread, and he truly had no position to pity others.

Besides, at present, Sister Lin was the most cherished granddaughter by the old lady in the Jia family, even surpassing the affection for Yuan Chun and the others; she was only slightly less favored than Baoyu.

And what about him, Jia Cong? He was a wretched egg that even servants could bully.

If it weren’t for Jia Huan’s secret assistance, he might have been pained to death or simply starved to death.

Who was more to be pitied between him and Sister Lin?

”Brother Cong, isn’t it odd? Uncle Lin was about to breathe his last, yet suddenly he recovered!”

”He even left Sister Lin in Yangzhou, and Second Brother Lian came back alone. That cursed Baoyu heard this and instantly threw his jade, causing a commotion that brought everyone in the house to soothe him!”

”Hmph, he’s always up to this trick, always throwing his jade around? If he truly didn’t treasure it, why hang it around his neck all day?!”

Jia Huan, oblivious to Jia Cong’s inner thoughts, continued to babble on.

When it came to Baoyu, he felt a hundred grievances, not to mention calling him ”brother”; he didn’t even want to mention his name.

Just calling him ”that cursed stone,” ah, those simple three words, sufficiently revealed his envy, jealousy, and hatred towards Baoyu.

”What? Brother Huan, what did you just say?”

Jia Cong seemed to have heard something unbelievable and quickly asked.

”I just said, that cursed stone has smashed his jade again, and the old lady, Third Sister, and the others made a big fuss!” Jia Huan was startled but obediently repeated.

”No, I meant the sentence before that!”

Jia Cong said anxiously, but in his heart, stormy waves were already surging: Did I hear wrong, Lin Ruhai isn’t dead? Sister Lin didn’t follow Jia Lian back to the Jia family?!

”The sentence before?”

Jia Huan paused, tilted his head to think carefully, and then said, ”Oh, Sister Lin stayed in Yangzhou, and Second Brother Lian came back alone.”

Jia Cong: ...I really did not hear wrong!

”Lin Ruhai didn’t die?” Amidst the chaotic thoughts, he blurted out the question.

”Yes, he didn’t die!” Through the wall, Jia Huan couldn’t see Jia Cong’s expression, so he didn’t realize the younger brother’s abnormality for the moment.

He continued, matching Jia Cong’s tone with a puzzled voice, ”Brother Cong, you also find it strange, right?”

”Uncle Lin was clearly on his deathbed, otherwise, the old lady would never have let Sister Lin go back, and even specially arranged for Second Brother Lian to accompany her.”
