The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

Chapter 38: Chapter 038: Another Scammer (Part 17)

”Do you have any idea? Do you even realize that they, they—” They’re deliberately scheming against you!

Seo Xiulan was desperately anxious, her usually sharp tongue somewhat tied in knots.

But He Tiantian just beamed, ”Mom, I just got back to the village and landed a job at the health clinic, so it’s normal for people to have opinions!”

Saying this, He Tiantian deliberately glanced at Seo Xiuhong, who was standing on the other side, and raised her voice. ”As it happens, I also need an opportunity to show everyone my capabilities!”

She even winked at Seo Xiuhong as if to say: Auntie, thank you, thank you for giving me a stage to prove myself!

Seo Xiuhong was taken aback, although she fiercely convinced herself not to worry, that this wretched girl was surely just bluffing.

But, Seo Xiuhong couldn’t help but think, what if?

What if this damned girl really had the skills, and her own deliberately created commotion couldn’t make He Tiantian embarrass herself, instead allowing her to steal the show?

You know, for this act, Seo Xiuhong had stirred up a lot of people—

Just then, a clutter of footsteps came from the distance, accompanied by sporadic screams and scolds.

”He Laosi, stop fooling around, hurry up and go to the brigade to borrow a tractor. That’s the important thing!”

”Yeah, yeah, don’t waste any more time, your wife really can’t take it anymore!”

”...Ah, our village’s health clinic is only good for curing headaches and fevers, even if Dr. Liu were here for a difficult birth, he wouldn’t have a solution!”

”Exactly, and now the health clinic has this young girl, although she’s also from the He Family, but a girl not even eighteen, what does she know about childbirth!”

While the crowd was bustling and shouting, no one stepped forward to intervene. They just followed along, watching as He Laosi carried a heavily pregnant woman in pain to the health clinic.

”Ah, you damned girl, you really are driving people crazy!”

Seo Xiulan felt as if half of He Family Village had arrived, and even with her audacious heart, she was getting cold feet at this moment.

She glared at He Tiantian annoyed, swallowing back all the curses she had on her mind.

He Tiantian didn’t mind any of that, stepping forward quickly and reaching out to check the pulse of the woman in labor.

The situation was indeed pretty bad.

She wanted to examine the pregnant woman’s stomach, but with He Laosi holding her, it was simply not feasible to check.

He Tiantian said to He Laosi, ”Put her on the examination bed in the inner room.”

The health clinic had two rooms, the outer room housed the medicine cabinet and a desk, barely serving as an office space.

The inner room had one single bed and some cardboard boxes and crates, which He Tiantian treated as both an examination and storage room.

That single bed, which presumably belonged to Dr. Liu for his own use, was now used by He Tiantian for examinations.

He Laosi didn’t know what an examination bed was, but since the inner room had only one bed, he placed his gasping wife on it.

He Tiantian didn’t rush in after him, but instead looked for a middle-aged woman in the crowd, who appeared to be in her forties or fifties.

This woman looked cleaner and more efficient than the average rural housewife, and He Tiantian had an inexplicable sense of familiarity with her.

She didn’t know this person, but the impression she had was strangely familiar.

He Tiantian rummaged through her memory and yes, this woman resembled the old lady from the Zhou Family, who was once her own grandmother.

This old lady had been a midwife in the old society and had been specially recruited into the hospital after the liberation, becoming a gynecologist in a formal hospital.

”Lady, you are Aunt Chen, right?”

He Tiantian asked with certainty.

”Yes, I am the midwife from the neighboring production brigade.” She was also famously known as a midwife within ten miles.

Her skills were quite good, and she was responsible too.

Upon seeing the state of He Laosi’s wife, Aunt Chen knew things were not good, and she kept urging him to find a solution quickly.

But this stubborn ox, like a bull stuck in a dead end, had caused trouble for half a day—not sending his wife to the Provincial City despite his family’s objections, and instead, brought her directly to the He Family Village health clinic.

Aunt Chen wasn’t from He Family Village, but lived nearby and knew very well about the former Dr. Liu—that he was only good for prescribing cold medicine and giving butt injections.

To rely on him to save lives—this, this was a joke, using two lives as a punchline.

Upon arriving at the health clinic, Aunt Chen did not find Dr. Liu but instead saw an overly young girl, evoking a sense of absurdity within her.

”This, this girl is even less qualified than Dr. Liu, who, at the very least, has received training at a hospital in the Provincial City.”

”Miss, the situation with He Family’s daughter-in-law is very bad, the baby is in the wrong position, with its feet coming out first, and is stuck in the—” birth canal.

Aunt Chen swallowed the rest of her words.

This girl in front of her probably wasn’t even married yet, discussing the birth canal with her left Aunt Chen struggling to find the words.

”I don’t know how to deliver babies!”

He Tiantian stated decisively, ”However, I have learned a traditional massage technique from my grandma that can correct the baby’s position—”

Aunt Chen hesitated, ”Your grandmother?”

She had never heard of any famous midwives coming from He Family Village.

Tiantian named her, ”Lady Zhou Liu, Liu Jie.”

Liu Jie was the name Grandma Zhou adopted after going to the hospital, with the hope that she would become a distinguished gynecologist.

”Lady Zhou Liu? The old master from the Provincial City known for correcting fetal positions with her bare hands?” Upon hearing Lady Zhou Liu’s name, Aunt Chen’s eyes lit up.

She suddenly became very excited, ”You, you’re saying you’ve learned her special skill?”

Tiantian nodded with modesty.

The excitement in Aunt Chen grew further, and she proposed, ”In that case, I, I’ll try to push the baby’s feet back, and then you can adjust the baby’s position, and I, I’ll deliver the child!”

All the things Tiantian had said were leading to this moment.

As a student formally trained at a medical college and who had interned at an established tertiary hospital, Tiantian did not harbor many taboos.

To her, an unmarried young woman and the distinctions of gender mattered little; anyone lying on the examination table was her patient!

But times were different, especially in rural areas, where many taboos and customs still existed.

Living in such an environment, Tiantian had to adapt. She might not care, but she couldn’t neglect the feelings of her family and relatives.

Moreover, the countryside was not all populated with the honest and simple; some ruffians and hoodlums existed as well.

Their actions might not constitute crimes, but they were enough to disgust and repel others.

If today Tiantian unreservedly delivered the child for Laosi’s wife, tomorrow there could be ill-intentioned people or even bachelors and hoodlums coming under the guise of seeking medical care to harass her.

Having always lived among society’s lower echelons in her previous book-world life, Tiantian was well aware that even the smallest of commoners were not necessarily virtuous or benign.

The saying that there is something hateful about the pitiable held some truth.

”Thank you so much, Aunt Chen!” Tiantian beamed with her sweet smile restored.

The villagers gathered around the clinic witnessed this sweet and endearing young girl display remarkable skill, saving Laosi’s wife, who had one foot in the Ghost Gate.

Mother and child were both safe!

Even Aunt Chen, the regionally famous midwife, praised Tiantian profusely, hinting now and then at her desire to learn from Tiantian.

”...Oh, our Tiantian is still young, and moreover, Tiantian said that in the future she wants to teach our Jiabao to recognize herbs and diagnose conditions by taking pulses—”

Seo Xiulan felt a pride she had never experienced in her life; her heart, which had been hanging in suspense, finally settled upon hearing a baby’s crying from within.

Turning to see the fawning attitudes of the villagers, she felt refreshed as if drinking ice water on a sweltering summer day.

As for Aunt Chen’s desire to become a disciple, Seo Xiulan dismissed the idea outright.

What a joke, Tiantian’s craft belonged to Old He’s family.

If it were to be passed down, it would go to someone within the He Family.

If Jiabao couldn’t learn it, then it would be taught to Jiabao’s future wife!

Not to mention, word of today’s events quickly spread throughout the neighboring villages, and Seo Xiulan made her intentions clear.

Before Jiabao even started learning from Tiantian, matchmakers were already inquiring quietly.

As Seo Xiulan reveled in her pride, she increasingly saw Tiantian as her lucky star, the treasure of Old He’s family...
