The Female Lead Decides to Act Wickedly

Chapter 2: Chapter 002: Starting as a Swindler (Part 2)

As a newborn baby, Tian Tian’s daily routine was just eating and sleeping, sleeping and eating.

All day long, Tian Tian had very few moments of being awake.

Even so, she noticed something was off—

That whatever, this life’s parents seemed a bit odd.

Especially in the hospital, Tian Tian always felt her parents were overly friendly with that ”Aunt Xu.”

The tone, the attitude, it was like they had an ulterior motive.

Could they be scammers?

Out of nowhere, such a thought popped into Tian Tian’s little head.

But if they weren’t scammers, for no reason and without knowing her, why were mom and dad so eager to please an old lady?

Okay, even if that old lady had given some guidance to novice parents on how to take care of a child, there was no need to be that enthusiastic.

If it were anyone else’s real parents, Tian Tian couldn’t help but want to comment, really, treating an unknown old lady like an ancestor!

However, soon Tian Tian’s attention was diverted.

Because mom Tian Zhenzhen had stayed for seven days and her surgical wound on her abdomen had healed well, meeting the criteria for discharge; they just needed to return to the hospital after a while to remove the stitches.

It was time to go home, and as they said goodbye to ”Aunt Xu,” Tian Tian, fighting sleepiness, watched closely and noticed that her parents didn’t take the opportunity to pitch any sales or persuade Aunt Xu to make investments, which made her breathe a sigh of relief.

It seemed she was overthinking, how could her mom and dad possibly be scammers?

”Honey, what should we name our daughter?”

Back in the modest two-bedroom apartment they rented, He Hongtu diligently placed his daughter on the bed and carefully helped his wife to bed for a rest.

After tidying up the basin, clothes, and diapers they had taken to the hospital, He Hongtu returned to the bedside, gently stroking his daughter’s tender cheeks with his fingers while discussing with his wife,

”Didn’t you flip through the dictionary every day? It’s been a few days, and you still haven’t come up with a name?” Tian Zhenzhen, still in pain from her incision, dared not speak loudly or breathe heavily, and she cast a disapproving glance at her husband.

”Ah, I did think of one!”

He Hongtu, not wanting to be looked down upon by his wife, quickly said, ”He Aitian? How about that? My surname ’He,’ your surname ’Tian,’ He Aitian—it makes it clear I love you!”

He Hongtu was skilled at sweet-talking, always ready with cheesy romantic lines.

”Ptui! What’s this He Aitian? Are you still not over your days farming back in your hometown? Want our daughter to love farming too?”

Tian Zhenzhen, having grown up with He Hongtu since childhood, had long been immune to her husband’s slick talk.

She gently spat at her husband, speaking indignantly.

He Hongtu replied sheepishly, ”Well, I was just trying to use our daughter’s name to express my feelings for you.”

As he spoke, He Hongtu himself laughed, ”He Aitian? It indeed doesn’t sound very nice. How about ’He Tian’?”

”He Tian? I’d rather be called paddy field!” Tian Zhenzhen realized that she couldn’t rely on her husband, who only had a middle school education.

She looked down at her gentle and fair daughter, tenderly stroking her dark baby hair, and softly suggested, ”How about He Tiantian, ’sweet’ as in ’sweetness’?”

”We’ve both had a hard life since childhood, and I hope our daughter never ends up like us. She deserves to be happy, healthy, and joyful, with a life sweeter than honey!”

Moved by his wife’s emotional words, He Hongtu’s heart also felt heavy.

Yes, he and his wife had neither parental kin. One had parents who died young, constantly getting tossed around by relatives, and the other had a stepmother and stepfather, living a life as pitiful as a little cabbage.

”Alright, let’s name her He Tiantian!”

He Hongtu, delighted, leaned down and planted a kiss on He Tiantian’s little face.

Oh!

Having not shaved in days, He Hongtu’s stubbly chin prickled He Tiantian, who immediately expressed her displeasure through loud crying.

”Look at you, can’t even hold a proper form when you’re excited!”

Tian Zhenzhen glared at He Hongtu and slapped his arm, ”Aren’t you going to shave already? Look at that scruffy beard. Not only does our daughter despise you, but it even annoys me!”

”Sire! At your service, Old Buddha’s command!”

Although ”XX Princess” had been broadcasting for several years, the County television station still aired several episodes a day during summer and winter vacations.

And terms such as Father Emperor and Old Buddha became familiar to the common people.

He Hongtu was not particularly fond of these TV dramas, but for the sake of ”business”, in order to have common topics with middle-aged and elderly women, he forced himself to watch the prime-time shows with his wife every day!

”All you know is how to talk nonsense!”

Tian Zhenzhen was amused and couldn’t help laughing. She lowered her head and whispered to her daughter, ”Our Tiantian must not be like your dad, who is all talk and no other strengths!”

”Our Tiantian should study hard, go to university, work in an office, and never be like your dad and mom—”

Tian Zhenzhen’s voice grew softer as she noticed her daughter had again closed her eyes and was soundly asleep.

”You little rascal, even smiling in your sleep!”

Tian Zhenzhen gently touched her daughter’s upturned mouth corners, her eyes filled with deep maternal love.

He Tiantian didn’t see the tenderness in her real mother’s eyes, but she could feel her parents’ love for her.

She realized that being reborn, God finally opened His eyes.

Although He hadn’t made her a boy, He had given her very loving parents.

Being abandoned by her parents in her previous life, He Tiantian did not know what real maternal and paternal love should look like.

But she felt that it must resemble what she had in this life.

Her real mother and father loved her, cherished her, and were willing to give her a meaningful name.

No matter what the future held, at least at this moment, her parents loved her!

Unlike her previous life, even though she was also called He Tiantian, her name didn’t carry such good meanings.

Her name wasn’t even given by her parents.

Right after she was born, she was sent back to her hometown.

Her grandparents gave her to her aunt to register her in the family registry, and it wasn’t until they were about to register her that her aunt thought of naming her.

Coincidentally, He Tiantian was born on March 5, which in the lunar calendar was Jingzhe.

After Jingzhe, the farmers at home started spring plowing.

Her Aunt He Shengnan thought of naming her ”He Miao”, but a cousin in the family had already used the name Miao Miao.

Impatient, her aunt casually told the registrar, ”Just call her He Tian.”

Whether the registrar misheard, or misunderstood, he directly recorded the name as ”He Tian,” and idly placed a dot after the character Tian.

When entering it into the computer, the data entry clerk mistook the dot as a repetition symbol ”々”, turning it directly into He Tiantian!

People with a literary background, hearing this name, might even associate it with the famous line of poetry: Jiangnan can pick lotus, Lotus Leaves akin to fields!

Of course, He Tiantian’s name had neither relation to poetry nor any significant meaning—it was purely a series of blunders.

However, those were matters of her last lifetime; this lifetime, she finally had parents who loved and cherished her!

Thinking about such wonderful things, He Tiantian couldn’t help but laugh, and laughing and laughing, she fell asleep.

”Wife, has the girl fallen asleep?”

He Hongtu, having shaved his beard, touched his smooth chin and tiptoed into the bedroom, lowering his voice as he asked.

”Yes, she’s fallen asleep!” Tian Zhenzhen also spoke in a low voice, ”By the way, once my surgery wound stops hurting in a couple days, let’s visit Aunt Xu’s house, her family’s conditions are really not bad!”

The old lady’s pension alone was two to three thousand, in their small County where the average salary was less than six hundred, it was truly a high salary.

”Of course, you don’t see who your husband is? With one sweep of my eyes, I know whether someone is our potential client or not!” He Hongtu proudly raised his smooth chin, his eyes sparkling, nowhere near his usually simple demeanor.
