Sorry, Our Captain Is a True All-Rounder

Chapter 139: Chapter 139: Too Strong a Moral Sense

When it came to the topic of parents, Shi Feng was always the first to crack.

He wasn’t just a pretty face; he was also a total mama’s and papa’s boy.

Even when he was out working, all he thought about was running back home to live.

If it weren’t for the special nature of their jobs, Shi Feng would want to spend every day by his parents’ side.

Lin Jingjing shook her head. She reached out to stroke his hair, stained with the blood of a mutant beast, then looked at his baby face and wiped away a smudge of blood.

”It’s okay, we can be your parents.”

”Get lost!” Shi Feng spat out coldly. ”You’re all a bunch of assholes!”

While they were joking around on the side, the nearby soldiers were desperately trying to kill the mutant beasts.

The two scenes were a study in extreme contrast.

The soldiers at the front fought with all their might, while the five people behind them were laughing and joking.

This made the viewers watching the livestream feel a bit uncomfortable.

”Lin Jingjing, what are you doing?” Beisang asked, his brow furrowed, upon seeing them laughing and chatting about other things.

”Get over here and help!”

”Can’t you see everyone is fighting desperately to kill the enemy?!”

Beisang was rather displeased with the five of them. ’They’re fully recovered, so what are they still standing around talking for?’

The moment Feng He heard that her Sister Lin, who they had just struggled to save, was being told to go back to killing mutant beasts, she was immediately against it.

”We’ll kill them, but Sister Lin stays out of it!” After saying her piece, Feng He snatched a laser cannon from a nearby soldier, hoisted it onto her shoulder, and started blasting the mutant beasts ahead.

The other three followed suit, positioning themselves in front of Lin Jingjing, completely unwilling to let her lift a finger.

Watching them, Lin Jingjing didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. ”I’m not that helpless,” she said.

”No way. We can’t let you get hurt again,” Gu Kaiwen replied.

”My body’s already healed,” Lin Jingjing said.

Beside her, Mo Xuan quietly spoke up. ”Your spiritual power isn’t.”

’Seriously. My body is in perfect condition.’

There were too many mutant beasts. Even using every trick and all their strength, they couldn’t kill them all.

”All units, fall back!” Beisang shouted, raising a hand as he saw the mutant beasts advancing relentlessly.

The soldiers began to fall back, fighting a rear-guard action, but the mutant beasts swarmed toward them like ants.

”Just how many mutant beasts did they put here?!” someone couldn’t help but complain. Not only was there a huge number of them, but they were also charging relentlessly.

The structure was tall, and mutant beasts poured down from every floor, piling on top of each other as they rushed forward.

”Are we going to die here?!”

The soldiers at the front realized something was wrong. The mutant beasts just kept coming, their numbers far beyond what they could handle.

And with so many mutant beasts, they were really going to die here today!

This realization sent panic through all the soldiers. Some started to run, terrified of being devoured by the beasts.

They were afraid they would never go back. What would their wives and children at home do?

So, they could only run.

Fleeing to the very front of the retreat, to get as far from the mutant beasts as possible.

When one person flees, it causes many more to start running.

Lin Jingjing was knocked aside by a fleeing soldier, her whole body toppling to the side.

She fell to the ground. Seeing the terrified look in every one of their eyes, she was momentarily at a loss for what to do.

Mo Xuan grabbed Lin Jingjing’s shoulder and helped her up from the ground, then asked with a frown, ”Are you hurt?”

Seeing her dazed expression, Mo Xuan grew alarmed. She grabbed Lin Jingjing’s shoulders with both hands and shook her firmly. ”Answer me, Sister Lin! Where are you hurt?!”

”I’m fine.” Snapping out of it, Lin Jingjing shook her head.

”They’re afraid,” Lin Jingjing said, pointing toward the soldiers in the distance, a stunned look on her face.

”Why are they afraid?” Lin Jingjing couldn’t quite understand.

”Because they’re going to die here.” Mo Xuan didn’t question why she would ask such a thing, and just stated the grim reality.

Lin Jingjing sighed. ’So everyone’s in the same boat.’

”Weren’t they supposed to level this place?” Lin Jingjing tilted her head in confusion. ”How are they going to do that with this level of strength?”

”Are they relying on Chief Bei alone, or on us?”

”Why not send more people to help?” Lin Jingjing couldn’t figure it out. So many people were dying here, yet the Empire’s King had only sent this small force.

Was the plan to offer up these people as a mere appetizer for these man-made mutant beasts?

Did he not realize there was a problem?

”Hahaha, this is just hilarious.” Lin Jingjing glanced at the soldiers behind her. Their spiritual power wasn’t strong enough; the highest was probably Grade A.

Where were the S-Class powerhouses? Where were the experts who could materialize their power?

Why weren’t they sent over at a time like this? Why send a group of people who can’t even deal much damage?!

”It really is hilarious,” Lin Jingjing said with a light laugh. ’I’m still too soft-hearted.’

After seeing the panic on their faces, all Lin Jingjing could think about was protecting them. She didn’t want to see that fear on them ever again.

Perhaps it was her parents’ teachings that made her keep her mission firmly in her heart. She couldn’t stand to see the masses wear such expressions.

Lin Jingjing rubbed her face with her hands, then said, ”I’ll go protect them.”

”My spiritual power... it has to be enough today!” Lin Jingjing’s eyes were filled with determination.

Mo Xuan looked at her, placed a hand on her shoulder, and said with a tight frown, ”You could actually die.”

”But they’re scared,” Lin Jingjing replied, grasping Mo Xuan’s hand and speaking with grave sincerity.

”We can’t just watch them die,” Lin Jingjing said.

Her sense of morality was too strong; it made her take on tasks that weren’t her responsibility.

These were clearly things Yun Yiyou should have been doing, yet now Lin Jingjing was shouldering the responsibility herself.

”Sister Lin...” Shi Feng, having heard their conversation, pursed his lips and called out softly, ”Are you really going?”

”There are so many mutant beasts.”

Lin Jingjing stood up straight, looked at the swarm of mutant beasts in the distance, and said with a smile, ”Since the people from the Empire don’t take these mutant beasts seriously and don’t value the lives of ordinary people...”

”...then we will. What is my duty?” Lin Jingjing asked.

”To protect the safety of the people, to protect the integrity of the nation’s territory, and to defend the honor of the motherland,” Gu Kaiwen answered. ”No one is allowed to bully the people.”

This was what they had heard since childhood, taught by their parents, and reinforced in the military.

Because they had heard it so many times, they couldn’t just ignore this responsibility.

They were fully capable of leaving this place, because they were just a culinary squad.

Only responsible for cooking.

”Hahaha, sometimes I really want to just slap myself a couple of times and tell myself to stop meddling in this crap,” Lin Jingjing laughed loudly.

After she finished laughing, she strode forward and summoned all the animals from her Spiritual World.

They had died once before, but after Lin Jingjing underwent a baptism of her own, they had been completely reborn.
