Sorry, Our Captain Is a True All-Rounder

Chapter 135: Chapter 135: I Don’t Want to Die

At Lin Jingjing’s words, the eyes of the four people on the Eagle’s back went wide.

”Sister Lin!” Feng He cried out. She tried to jump down, but the large Eagle caught her and brought her back.

Lin Jingjing took out a laser cannon and mounted it on her shoulder. She then stood in front of the elevator and took aim.

After a slight adjustment to the cannon’s barrel, she fired at the elevator. The fully charged blast shattered the metal plating in front of it.

The hole was big enough for them to fly through.

Meanwhile, the animals behind Lin Jingjing had been all but slaughtered. Her head was throbbing with unbearable pain.

She spat out another mouthful of blood. Not only that, but blood began to trickle from her eyes and ears as well.

A wide smile spread across Lin Jingjing’s face as she watched them fly away. ”Live a good life.”

”No—!” The four of them screamed, crying as they watched the scene unfold.

The four of them sat on the Eagle’s back, their faces streaked with tears.

Feng He was on her knees, tears streaming down her face. ”Don’t die, Sister Lin.”

After seeing them get out safely, a small smile touched Lin Jingjing’s lips. She then turned to face the monsters.

The summoned animals were nearly all gone. Only the Emerald King Snake was still fighting desperately.

It wasn’t the only one; the other animals were in the same state. They were covered in wounds, while very few of the monsters had fallen.

Lin Jingjing’s heart ached seeing its battered form.

”Xiao Lü, go back.”

No, I want to fight with Master!

That’s right! We won’t die! We will fight with Master!

Yes!

Hearing their words, Lin Jingjing managed a small smile. She forced herself to walk forward. Her deathly pale complexion and the blood staining her face made her look like a specter.

’My head hurts. My body hurts. I can barely hear, and my vision is blurring.’

Lin Jingjing knew her body was reaching its limit.

But she didn’t want to die. Not one bit. Standing her ground, she looked up at the two-meter-tall monsters. They were hideous, yet so powerful.

’What should I do?’

’I wonder if they’ve reached the ground yet. If I die now, the animals from the Spiritual World will vanish along with me.’

’Will the others on the Eagle’s back fall to their deaths?’

’Forget it. I’ll just have to hold on a little longer.’

’Holding on a bit longer can only be a good thing for them.’

’Right. Just a little longer.’

Clinging to this thought, Lin Jingjing fought back the encroaching darkness just as she was about to pass out.

The crowd watching the live stream fell silent. The more sentimental viewers were already in tears.

”Sister Lin, don’t you die! You have to live! I still want to try your cooking!”

”I don’t want Sister Lin to die! Where’s the Legion? The rescue team? What’s taking them so long?!”

”Her spiritual power is at its limit. The pain from over-exerting spiritual power isn’t something a normal person can endure. It feels like someone is smashing your skull with a hammer, over and over again. But she hasn’t passed out, and she isn’t dead. She’s still holding on, and the animals from her Spiritual World are still fighting!”

”Lin Jingjing... she’s so strong. So incredible!”

When Captain Li saw this, he completely forgot that Yun Yiyou was sitting right beside him. He began to pace back and forth, his eyes filled with pure anxiety.

”What do we do? What do we do?” Captain Li was frantic. ’That little waste can’t die here.’

”She’s not actually going to die, is she?”

Everyone had seen what the monsters were capable of, and they also knew how strong Lin Jingjing’s summoned animals were.

But even those animals were taken down by the monsters in just a few moves.

Now, Lin Jingjing was all that was left, and with her body in that state, it was a one-way ticket to death.

She clearly only had Grade D spiritual power, yet she was still holding on.

”Captain Li, you seem very worried about her,” Yun Yiyou observed, propping their head on their hand as they watched their Personal Guard Captain’s frantic pacing.

Captain Li was beside himself with worry, and in that moment, he completely forgot he was speaking to Yun Yiyou.

”How can I not be? They’re all my subordinates.”

As he spoke, Captain Li began to pray, hoping that some god would see Lin Jingjing safely through this crisis.

While everyone prayed for Lin Jingjing, she herself was gripping the laser cannon, facing down the endless stream of monsters.

They were bloodthirsty, savage. ’If I let them get out,’ Lin Jingjing thought suddenly, ’I can’t imagine how many people will die at their hands.’

Lin Jingjing wanted to use her spiritual power to destroy them, but the moment she tried, an unbearable pain shot through her head.

The pain was like having her brains scrambled, and it was so intense that Lin Jingjing could no longer stay standing. She collapsed.

Lin Jingjing closed her eyes in despair. Deep down, she was terrified of death.

Just then, her father’s and mother’s words echoed in her mind.

”Once you put on this uniform, you have a duty to the people. Serve them, and contribute to your country.”

”You must never raise your fist to the weak. Your fists are for those who commit violence.”

”Jingjing, you have to survive.”

Her mother and father’s faces appeared before her. One was in a police uniform, the other in the green of the military. Their expressions were grave, exceptionally serious.

But she could see the worry in their eyes.

Lin Jingjing could no longer tell where she was. Was she in the lab, facing that terrifying monster? Was she a child again, being scolded by her parents for a mistake? Was she back on her first mission, lying in a hospital bed after taking a bullet to save someone? Or was she listening to her parents’ advice as she joined the armed police?

”Jingjing, live,” said her usually strict mother, taking her hand gently.

Her father, always so kind and gentle, stroked her head and said, ”Jingjing, live.”

Seeing their familiar faces, Lin Jingjing could no longer hold back her tears.

She cried out, ”Mom, Dad, I’m not going to make it! My head hurts so much, my whole body aches, and there are so many monsters... I can’t get out.”

Her parents wrapped her in an embrace, comforting her with gentle pats. ”Our Jingjing is the strongest. You can get out of here alive.”

”We believe in you.”

After comforting her, her mother began to gently pat her on the back, over and over.

She softly hummed the nursery rhyme she used to sing to her as a child.

”Twinkle, twinkle, little star,

How I wonder what you are

...”

Listening to her mother’s song, Lin Jingjing closed her eyes in her mother’s warm embrace, the pain slowly fading away.

Meanwhile, in the real world, a thin, golden barrier slowly materialized around Lin Jingjing’s body.

”It’s a Spirit Barrier!”

”Sister Lin isn’t dead! I knew she wouldn’t die!”

”Holy shit, she’s not dead even after all that? Badass!”

”Her spiritual power was damaged that badly, and she can still put up a Spirit Barrier? She’s so damn strong...”

Seeing the faint Spirit Barrier emanating from the unconscious Lin Jingjing, Captain Li was so excited he started spinning in circles.

”I knew that little waste wouldn’t die,” Captain Li said, sniffling.
