Sorry, Our Captain Is a True All-Rounder

Chapter 116: Chapter 116: Moral Kidnapping

But a mere thirty seconds later, the snakes launched another ferocious assault.

The Emerald King Snake had no choice but to grow larger, enveloping the group within its coils.

With them drawing the snakes’ fire, the White-haired snakes stopped going after Shi Feng. Unharassed, the great tiger quickly carried Shi Feng to a safe area on the perimeter.

Shi Feng slid off the tiger’s back. As he stared at the battlefield in the distance, worry and fear coiled in his heart.

He worried that Lin Jingjing wouldn’t make it out. His gaze fell upon the massive, emerald-green snake in the distance, and his grip on his laser gun tightened.

For the first time, Shi Feng truly understood what a crippling weakness his fear of snakes was.

He couldn’t help Lin Jingjing. He could only wait here, powerless.

Shi Feng started to move forward to help, but the tiger beside him clamped its jaws on his clothes.

”GRRRR—”

’You can’t go. Master ordered me to protect you.’

Unfortunately, Shi Feng couldn’t understand the language of beasts and had no idea what the tiger was trying to say.

”I have to help! I can’t just stand here!” Shi Feng reached for his clothes to pull them free, but he couldn’t wrench them from the tiger’s grip.

”Let go!” Shi Feng yelled.

”ROAR—” The tiger released him, only to roar in his face.

’No!’

Trapped in the swarm of snakes, the group was growing frantic. The members of the Sixth Corps all turned to their captain, their eyes filled with desperation.

”Captain, what do we do?” asked the short-haired girl, Jiu Yuan, her face a mask of anxiety.

Another young man was just as panicked. ”Yeah, Captain, what’s the plan?”

”This giant snake can’t hold out much longer!”

The four of them bombarded Chen Hao with one question after another, leaving him at a complete loss.

Chen Hao instinctively looked toward Lin Jingjing. Standing a short distance away, Lin Jingjing’s expression was thunderous.

’I really don’t want to deal with these people. They’re complete morons.’

’I warned them at the beginning, but their captain wouldn’t listen. He just had to use his spiritual power to smash more than half of the snake eggs.’

’Now they’ve brought the wrath of the White-haired snakes down on us, and they can’t even handle it.’

Seeing Chen Hao look toward Lin Jingjing, the other four members followed his gaze.

”Captain Lin, do you have a plan?” A boy who looked small and frail walked over to ask. His name was Ying Chen, and though he appeared weak, his attacks were ruthless and swift.

Lin Jingjing responded with open mockery. ”Why ask me? Didn’t your captain say that if there really were snakes, he’d just kill them?”

”What, you stir up trouble you can’t handle and then try to dump it on me?”

As she spoke, Lin Jingjing’s gaze swept over them, and she sneered. ”I’m only still here because I have a conscience. All guts when it comes to causing trouble, but no ability to solve it.”

Having said her piece, Lin Jingjing raised her hand, gave them a thumbs-up, then turned it upside down right in front of their faces.

The other girl was immediately incensed by Lin Jingjing’s gesture. She stormed forward, shouting, ”You’re just a glorified cook! How dare you look down on me!”

”We did you a favor by even asking for your opinion, and now you’re getting all snarky with us.” The girl’s name was Jiang Shuying; she had a fiery temper and a reckless personality.

”Oh, you’re right, you’re right. I’m just a cook. Why should I be here protecting you? Maybe I should just call Xiao Lü back.” Lin Jingjing then shouted, ”Xiao Lü, come back!”

In an instant, the Emerald King Snake that had encircled them vanished. With the protective barrier gone, the White-haired snakes immediately swarmed them.

Lin Jingjing reacted instantly. Her spiritual power materialized in front of her, forming a series of First-Grade steps.

With every step she took, the one behind her vanished. She had no intention of paying any mind to the five members of the Sixth Corps she left behind.

The five scrambled to fire their laser guns at the approaching snakes, but there were simply too many; it was a futile effort.

Seeing his team on the verge of being overwhelmed, Chen Hao desperately yelled up at Lin Jingjing in mid-air, ”Captain Lin, please, figure something out! Save us!”

”I’m just a good-for-nothing, remember? I don’t have that kind of power,” Lin Jingjing called back with a smile. ”But you can call for help. Just press the button, and a rescue team will be here to pull you out in no time.”

But pressing the distress button meant they would be eliminated.

To be eliminated on the very first day of the competition—a competition being broadcast live across the entire Empire... If they truly quit now, they couldn’t even begin to imagine the backlash the Sixth Corps would face.

”Are you really that heartless!?” the long-haired young man yelled. ”You’re just going to watch us die!”

”Oh, you’re right, you’re right. I’m just going to watch you die. You should find someone who’s actually willing to save you,” Lin Jingjing retorted. ”Like... the rescue team hiding nearby?”

’When it comes down to it, she just wants us to press the button and eliminate ourselves, doesn’t she?’

”You’ll get what’s coming to you!” Jiang Shuying snarled.

She was so consumed by her anger at Lin Jingjing that she failed to notice a White-haired snake darting up from behind. The serpent opened its jaws wide and sank its fangs directly into her ankle.

The pain made her shriek. Beside her, Ying Chen swiftly drew the knife from his belt and hacked at the snake.

Watching the scene unfold, Lin Jingjing furrowed her brow. ’Has the Sixth Corps run out of talent?’

’Did they really pick a bunch of people who can’t even materialize their spiritual power?’

’If so, this year’s recruits for the Sixth Corps are pretty mediocre.’

Seeing this, Chen Hao had no choice but to use his own spiritual power to create a large protective shield, enclosing all five of them within it.

Lin Jingjing’s eyes widened as she watched this unfold. ’So, they *can* all materialize their spiritual power. And not a single one of them was willing to use it.’

’And they even wanted me, the captain of the cooking detail, to figure out a way to save them. It’s just... I don’t even know how to describe it.’

”Heh...” Lin Jingjing sneered. She wanted nothing to do with this group. They refused to give up, yet they still wanted to guilt-trip her.

”And here I thought none of you could materialize spiritual power. Turns out you all can,” Lin Jingjing said, looking down at the five of them from high above, her face an icy mask.

”If you can do it, why didn’t you? If you’re so capable, why were you just begging me to save you?”

”And on top of that, you tried to guilt-trip me. You people are truly disgusting.” Lin Jingjing didn’t pull any punches. She would say it even if the whole thing was being broadcast live.

”None of you want to lift a finger, but you don’t want to quit the competition either. In that case, you can just die here.” With that, Lin Jingjing turned and left without a second glance.

After Lin Jingjing’s tirade, the expressions on the faces of the five were grim.

Lin Jingjing was right. None of them had been willing to expend the effort. After all, if they exhausted their spiritual power right at the start, wouldn’t they become dead weight?

They would not only drag down their teammates but also face ridicule. Everyone wanted to make a good showing in this competition.

That way, they might catch the eye of the higher-ups and earn better opportunities.

Now that Lin Jingjing had laid their tacit understanding bare for all to see, a layer of awkwardness settled over the group.
