Sorry, Our Captain Is a True All-Rounder

Chapter 118: Chapter 118: No Need to Apologize to Her

It was already ten o’clock at night. Lin Jingjing told the others to go to bed, saying that she and Feng He would stand guard.

The three men nodded. After tidying up, they went into their tent.

The army-issued tents were great. They were spacious and sturdy, and were said to be able to withstand powerful typhoons.

They had set up two tents in total—one for the women, and one for the men.

The men had gone to bed, leaving the two women sitting before the campfire. The fire CRACKLED, and when Lin Jingjing noticed the flames dying down, she grabbed some nearby firewood and tossed it in.

In the wilderness, fire could ward off wild animals and prevent them from attacking.

”Want some fruit?” Lin Jingjing asked, taking out the wild fruit they had found earlier that day from her Space Ring and offering it to Feng He.

”Yes,” Feng He said, taking it. She wiped it clean and began to eat.

”There probably won’t be any beasts out tonight, right?” Feng He asked, scanning their surroundings.

”I don’t know,” Lin Jingjing said, shaking her head. ”It depends on if there are any in the area.”

”But with the fire, they probably won’t come over,” Lin Jingjing said, taking a bite of the fruit.

”Even if they do, we can just kill them and have them for tomorrow’s meal.”

Hearing this, Feng He couldn’t help but chuckle. ”That’s true.”

They exchanged a few more words before falling silent. Feng He sat reading a medical text by the light of a glowing orb, and Lin Jingjing took out a beginner’s medical book to look at as well.

Whenever she encountered something she didn’t understand, she would ask Feng He, and after getting an explanation, Lin Jingjing would continue reading.

This continued until two-thirty in the morning, when Gu Kaiwen and Mo Xuan crawled out of the tent, yawning. Being woken up from a deep sleep really makes you drowsy.

Mo Xuan walked up to Feng He and asked quietly, ”Didn’t run into any beasts, did you?”

Feng He shook her head, then closed the medical book she was more than halfway through. ”No.”

”Okay, you two go get some rest. We’ll take over for the rest of the night,” Mo Xuan said with a nod.

Lin Jingjing slipped the Space Ring off her finger and handed it to Mo Xuan. ”Take whatever you need from it.”

”Got it.” Mo Xuan took the ring and slid it onto his pinky.

After the brief handover, the two women went into their tent. A thin layer of dew had already formed on the fabric, making it damp.

Once inside, the two women covered themselves with their blankets and quickly fell asleep. Outside, the two men sat before the fire, also in silence.

’After all, they had just woken up, and their minds were still fuzzy.’

A small incident occurred later that night. An adult deer wandered near their camp, but Mo Xuan took it down with a single shot.

Gu Kaiwen quickly ran over, dragged the freshly killed deer back, and began draining its blood into a basin.

They worked as fast as they could to put the deer and the blood into the Space Ring. Once that was done, they sat back down by the fire, praying that the smell of blood in the air wouldn’t attract any more dangerous predators.

Fortunately, their luck held. They didn’t encounter any other animals for the rest of the night.

After a perilous night, everyone gradually began to wake up.

Shi Feng, who had slept the most soundly, was also the first one up.

He came out, brushed his teeth, and washed his face. Then, he took out a pot, washed some rice, and started making congee.

”And we still have to deliver breakfast to the other teams,” Shi Feng grumbled as he sat by the fire, adding more wood.

Nearby, Mo Xuan and Gu Kaiwen were stewing meat. They planned to make a lean meat congee, but since congee digests quickly, they needed to prepare something more filling as well.

Thankfully, when they’d received their supplies the day before yesterday, they had requested a large bag of food like corn and sweet potatoes.

They also had eggs, noodles, and the like; they were well-stocked on staples.

The sound of chopping meat woke the two women in the tent. When they emerged, they saw the men were already busy at work.

”You’re awake?” Mo Xuan said, looking up. ”The congee needs a little more time, and the corn and sweet potatoes are still boiling.”

”Okay,” Feng He nodded. By the time she and Lin Jingjing returned from washing up, the men had already added the minced meat to the congee.

”You didn’t run into any beasts last night, did you?” Lin Jingjing asked as she sat down.

Gu Kaiwen answered first. ”Mo Xuan killed a deer.”

’A deer?’

Lin Jingjing nodded. ”Nice. We’re having roasted venison today.”

”Eating too much venison can cause inflammation, a dry mouth and throat, and even constipation,” Feng He said with a frown. ”Won’t that affect their performance in the competition?”

”One meal should be fine,” Lin Jingjing said, stroking her chin. ”It’s not like I’m going to feed it to them every day, am I?”

”If it’s really a problem, we can just eat it ourselves,” Shi Feng said, stirring the congee. ”I’ve never had roasted venison before.”

The group chatted as they worked, and once all the food was cooked, they began portioning it out.

”Good thing we have so many disposable containers, or I’d be worried we wouldn’t have enough,” Gu Kaiwen said, looking at the stacks of boxes piled up in front of them.

”Should be enough for half a month, right?” Shi Feng asked, leaning in.

”It’s enough,” Lin Jingjing replied. ”If we run low, we’ll just have to be more frugal next time.”

”Alright.”

Once the portioning was done, they sat on the ground, eating their own breakfast of congee, corn, and sweet potatoes.

The corn and sweet potatoes had been improved over the years, making them tastier than their predecessors. Not only that, but you could eat a lot of the sweet potatoes without getting heartburn.

”This is delicious. This corn would make really fragrant, sweet juice,” Feng He said while eating her corn. She loved corn juice; the sweet taste was just wonderful.

”I can make some,” Mo Xuan chimed in. He was already thinking about how he could make some corn juice for her that evening.

They went to deliver breakfast to the various corps. When they got to the Sixth Corps, their expressions soured.

The five of them handed over the breakfast with stony faces, then turned and left without a word.

The viewers watching the livestream that morning also noticed something was off, realizing the relationship between the Sixth Corps and the cooking squad was especially tense.

Viewers who didn’t know the full story started asking in the comments.

[What happened? They were fine yesterday, but now it’s like this.]

[Captain Lin’s team was all smiles with the other corps. Why the long faces for the Sixth Corps?]

[Do they have a problem with our Sixth Corps?!]

[Yeah, they must have a problem with our Captain, Chen Hao.]

Viewers who knew the backstory immediately started explaining yesterday’s situation to the others.

[It was the Sixth Corps that started it. They have their own abilities but refused to use them, and they still expected Captain Lin to help them.]

[Exactly! Of course Captain Lin’s team is angry. With an attitude like that, they expect to be greeted with a smile? Dream on!]

When Chen Hao saw them put down the breakfast and leave without a word, he felt a knot in his stomach.

He quickly called out to them. ”Captain Lin!”

Hearing his voice, Lin Jingjing stopped and turned. ”Yes?”

”About yesterday, we were in the wrong...” Chen Hao began, about to apologize, but Jiang Shuying, who was standing behind him, cut him off.

”Captain, you don’t need to apologize to her!”
