Chapter 1298: Chapter 9: Weather

Under the sea, Su Xiao slowly sank, releasing the Boundary Line about 10 meters, with one end connected to the wire wheel on his wrist and the other end wrapped around Speiro’s arm.

As Su Xiao descended, Speiro was also dragged down towards the sea by the Boundary Line.

Speiro’s eyes rolled back, his body convulsed, and he spat out a large bubble, looking extremely pained.

Su Xiao didn’t rashly approach Speiro; Devil Fruit Ability Users become exhausted in seawater. In other words, every Devil Fruit Ability User is essentially a landlubber. No matter how good they are at swimming, once they enter the sea, aside from splashing around, they can’t do anything, and without rescue, they’d sink like a stone in less than 10 seconds.

”Hululu...”

Speiro’s hand twitched, experiencing extreme pain as seawater entered his windpipe and lungs.

Even though Speiro was already like a fish on the chopping block, Su Xiao still didn’t go near him. Waiting for him to drown and pass out was the safest choice.

As proven, Devil Fruit Ability Users become extremely weak when dragged into the sea. Previously overpowering Pika, Speiro now resembled a dead fish.

Two minutes later, Speiro didn’t even blow out bubbles. His body twitched intermittently. As a Great Pirate, Speiro’s physical fitness was strong, and even after being submerged for ten minutes, he might not drown.

Su Xiao gripped the long knife tightly, slowly tightening the Boundary Line.

Zi~

As the Boundary Line retracted, Speiro was dragged towards Su Xiao.

Zheng.

A blade aura flew out, and blood burst from Speiro’s throat. Despite having drowned, Speiro suddenly opened his eyes, attempting to cover his throat with his hand, but the side effects of the Devil Fruit left him powerless.

The blood was diluted by seawater, leaving a very deep cut on Speiro’s throat.

Su Xiao accelerated the tightening of the Boundary Line, slashing the long knife forward.

With a swishing sound, the blade cut through the seawater, staining it with blood, which was quickly diluted and eventually dissipated by the sea.

You have killed Charlotte Perospero.

Charlotte Perospero was the leader within the sea battle area where Hunter was located.

It has been verified that the Hunter accomplished this kill independently.

You have gained 1000 points of Pirate Reputation.

Would you like to publicly announce the killing of Charlotte Perospero? If you choose to disclose this information, your prestige within the Pirate Camp will significantly increase.

Due to Charlotte Perospero’s special status, you have gained 14.8% of the World Source (5% bonus for being the sea battle area leader), now amounting to a total of 14.8% of the World Source.

Your Talent ’Soul Devourer’ has activated, permanently increasing Mana Value by 30 points, bringing your maximum Mana Value to 5456 points.

You have obtained a Treasure Chest (Legendary).

The Legendary Treasure Chest has a 50% chance to contain Golden Quality Items, a 25% chance to contain Light Gold Set Parts, a 15% chance to contain Golden Set Parts, and a 10% chance to contain Legendary Level Items/Equipment/Skills/Gemstones, etc.

...

Due to Speiro’s special status, combined with his original strength, Su Xiao unexpectedly gained a high-quality Legendary Treasure Box.

There are four levels of Legendary Treasure Boxes, not defined by Reincarnation Paradise but discovered by Contractors through exploration.

Legendary Treasure Chests of the First Level are the easiest to obtain, relatively speaking. Su Xiao once acquired a First-Level Legendary Treasure Chest by killing Raikage, but it had less than a 2% chance of containing Legendary Level Items or Equipment.

The Second Level Legendary Treasure Chests are slightly harder to acquire, but the probability of obtaining Legendary Level Items is increased to 5%.

The Third Level Legendary Treasure Chest is what Su Xiao obtained this time, with a 10% chance to contain Legendary Items.

Su Xiao has also acquired the highest Fourth Level, which was the Hashirama Chest.

The Fourth Level Legendary Treasure Chest has a 30% chance of holding Legendary Items and a 1% chance of containing items of even higher quality.

This information was purchased by Su Xiao through intelligence channels between adventure groups.

Opening good loot from the first three levels of Legendary Treasure Chests is a matter of luck, whereas the Fourth Level is different. If it contains something above Legendary Level, it can lead to overnight success, though the chance is low.

Su Xiao grabbed Speiro’s head and tossed it to A Mu before swimming towards the surface.

In this sea battle, both sides’ ships sank, but the death of the crucial enemy, Speiro, led the battle to be declared a victory for the Donquixote family.

Su Xiao could choose to disclose Speiro’s killing. As a benefit, his prestige among pirates would rise significantly. Speiro was already a Great Pirate, so stepping over him would be a faster way to climb up.

The advantages were evident, but the downsides were substantial, too. Speiro was the eldest son of Charlotte Lingling, who wouldn’t let his death go unavenged. It was unlikely she’d seek revenge personally, but her subordinates would certainly pay ’extra attention’ to Su Xiao.

Su Xiao decided to disclose the news of killing Speiro. Although he was wary of Charlotte Lingling, the chances of meeting her were slim. With the ability to utilize Demonic Hunt Time at any moment, Su Xiao didn’t fear her admiral, Charlotte Katakuri. Even if he couldn’t win a front-line fight, Su Xiao could still escape.

Su Xiao quickly surfaced, finding the sea scattered with planks, the towering flames conspicuous.

If it had been sunny earlier, the flames wouldn’t have been so obvious. Su Xiao looked up at the sky, now overcast and gray.

”What’s that...?”

A white ’crystal’ the size of half a meter fell from overhead, crashing into the sea with a boom, spraying seawater everywhere.

A moment later, the white ’crystal’ floated on the water’s surface, emitting wisps of white steam.

”Ice cube...”

Su Xiao immediately understood what was happening; this sea area was experiencing hail.

Don’t think a half-meter diameter hailstone is exaggerated; this is normal weather for the New World. In certain regions of the New World, after a storm ends, such colossal hailstones might fall.

Boom, boom, boom...

Meter-wide hailstones rained down from above, embodying the New World’s unpredictable climate, where dozens or even hundreds of weather types can occur on certain islands in a year. Today might be winter, and tomorrow the rainy season or a drought.

Su Xiao immediately dove underwater; getting hit by such massive hail wouldn’t be a pleasant experience.

Su Xiao could dive underwater, but a dozen meters away, Pika couldn’t. He stared at the sky, looking grim.

Massive hailstones continued to fall. Just after Su Xiao dived, a hailstone crashed down from above.

A flash of a blade, and the hailstone shattered into a dozen pieces, scattered by the cut.

After Su Xiao sliced the hailstone, he noticed a dozen figures swimming rapidly through the water—pirates vigorously dragging someone, that someone being Pika.

Pika’s current state mirrored that of Speiro when drowning, mouth wide open, eyes rolled back, and emitting large bubbles.

No one without a ship would withstand those hailstones. Pika’s raft had shattered, forcing him into the water.

The weakness of Devil Fruit Users was glaring; while Pika wouldn’t drown, he was disoriented from the seawater.

Hailstones plunged into the water, and Su Xiao pushed off the seawater beneath him, swimming straight toward Pika’s location.

Here were only Pika and his dozen of subordinates, while Pika himself was barely conscious from the seawater.

A blade flashed as a large amount of blood spread through the seawater.
