Chapter 1261: Chapter 76: Breakout

When the surrounding shield wall was only five meters away from Su Xiao, a dozen long weapons thrust through the gaps in the tower shields. As the encirclement tightened, the soldiers around Su Xiao naturally gathered closer. He was waiting for this opportunity.

Su Xiao gripped the hilt of Dragon Slash tightly, and the long knife was unsheathed.

Clang.

A faint blue ring-shaped blade aura spread out, Ring Break: Maximization.

With a swishing sound, the Ring Break swept across, severing tower shields, and the undead soldiers behind them were no exception.

The faint blue ring-shaped blade aura spread, slicing through the chests of the undead soldiers it passed, causing blood to splatter and the pungent stench of blood to spread.

Armor clashed, tower shields collided, and all undead soldiers within sixty meters of Su Xiao fell, the wailing almost instantly echoing across the battlefield, creating a purgatory-like scene.

The undead soldiers at the back couldn’t see what was happening at the front, but they could hear the chilling screams.

Amid the blood was Su Xiao holding a long knife, with a faint green light gathering in the hand holding Dragon Slash. It was a large amount of life energy absorbed by the sword, quickly healing his wounds. As he didn’t have any injuries, the pure life energy dispersed into the air.

Droplets of blood splattered on Su Xiao’s cheek. He surveyed the surroundings, stepped onto a corpse ahead, and actively plunged into the crowd surging around him.

Slicing sounds and screams intertwined, Su Xiao beheaded a head with a swing of his knife while kicking at an undead soldier beside him.

With a crisp click, Su Xiao’s kick broke a large section of the undead soldier’s ribs. The soldier groaned in pain and tried to charge at Su Xiao, but unfortunately, his body gradually lost strength, with two broken ribs piercing his heart.

Thud, thud, thud.

Su Xiao slashed three times consecutively, with three silver threads lingering in the air. An undead soldier was frozen in place, and then his body shattered.

After just slaughtering an enemy, Su Xiao immediately ducked his body as a bright spear blade slashed above his head. With his intuition ability, there was no blind spot behind him.

Su Xiao casually picked up a broadsword from the ground and tossed it backward without looking.

The broadsword directly pierced through an undead soldier’s throat. He staggered backward, releasing his weapon and holding the broadsword with both hands. As he grasped it, darkness fell before him. The last scene he saw was a man wielding a long knife, slashing through the undead soldiers. Wherever he charged, the undead soldiers would fall.

A pang of pain came from under Su Xiao’s ribs as a metal arrow from nowhere struck him. Being amidst a chaotic army, staying unharmed was a dream.

Pulling out the metal arrow from under his ribs, Su Xiao pierced through an undead soldier’s chest and immediately sent the arrow into another soldier’s throat.

Currently, Su Xiao was immensely fierce. Any soldier daring to come within three meters of him would have their throat cut or heart pierced instantly. Yet even so, there were too many undead soldiers around him.

While Su Xiao was killing enemies, he was breaking through in one direction: towards the Dark Moon Marsh. According to his observation, it was temporarily impossible to decapitate the enemy commander.

The current situation differed from a conventional battle between two armies. The undead commander needed only to set up a formation and then let the soldiers encircle and kill Su Xiao. No further orders were needed from him.

Therefore, this undead commander donned ordinary soldiers’ armor. To find him among over ten thousand soldiers was less feasible than trying to break out directly.

The decapitation plan was stillborn. Su Xiao could only wield his long knife and faith to carve a bloody path out.

Blood splattered, severed limbs flew. Su Xiao had lost count of how many undead soldiers he had slaughtered, nor was he in the mood to calculate. He determined his direction through the Eye of the Apostle, breaking through in that direction.

Bang!

Su Xiao kicked an undead soldier’s head to pieces, grabbed the corpse, and hurled it forward.

The corpse knocked down a group of gathered undead soldiers. As they tried to stand, an impact hit them head-on.

Boom!

The explosion resounded across the battlefield, with the unique flames of Alchemy Bombs raging. Soldiers within the flames howled in agony, instinctively pulling at their armor, but alas, it wasn’t the armor burning.

Soon, a dozen charred corpses fell to the ground. Su Xiao had disappeared from the original spot. Looking along a blood-filled path, he was already twenty meters away. The path was soon filled by soldiers rushing in.

By usual standards, after such slaughter within a torrent of troops, the surrounding undead soldiers should have been terrified, perhaps causing a small-scale rout.

But this situation didn’t occur. The eyes of the undead soldiers around were bloodshot, determined not to rest until Su Xiao was dead. As for their fallen comrades, they had died for the Empire, for Master Enlightenment.

The death of Enlightenment had clearly startled the undead soldiers. Enlightenment didn’t refer to a single person but seemed more like the Undead Clan’s ’Totem’. Sometimes this ’Totem’ was an elusive presence, and sometimes it genuinely appeared. All Enlightenment lived simply, never leaving the Tree of Shelter, and guided them.

Now their ’Totem’ was dead, and the undead upper echelons deduced that Su Xiao was inseparably linked to Enlightenment’s death. To the lower soldiers, it became Su Xiao’s fault that Enlightenment had died.

Su Xiao had destroyed their ’living Totem’. These soldiers would rather tear him apart alive than let him escape.

Su Xiao broke through forward. Though it seemed like he was slaying patches of undead soldiers with each blade aura, these were not the elite troops of the undead clan. If besieged by elite troops, whether Su Xiao could break through was uncertain.

With blood spraying and the long knife clanging crisply, Su Xiao forcibly carved a bloody path through the Undead Army, as if possessed by the Killing God.

At the battlefield’s edge, a ’undead soldier’ stood on a high slope, witnessing the scene below. He was the commander of this undead troop.

The undead commander said a few words to his personal guards, realizing that letting Su Xiao continue charging was not viable. Reinforcements needed time to arrive. If this continued, Su Xiao really might break through. He was too fierce, and undead soldiers were falling in batches, not one by one.

Thus, the undead commander decided to send cavalry to block Su Xiao’s breakout path and perform a counter-charge. If the cavalry entangled Su Xiao, it wouldn’t be so easy for him to escape.

Just as the undead commander gave the order, eyes several hundred meters away locked onto him.

In the battlefield center, Su Xiao crushed an undead soldier’s throat. He unexpectedly located the commander of this undead troop.

Amid the undead tide, Su Xiao slashed a few more times, blood beads flying around him. After slaughtering several undead soldiers, he leapt up.

With a thunderous crash, the ground beneath Su Xiao shattered. He jumped over ten meters high. Given his physical fitness, this wasn’t difficult. As for why not jump higher, it would make him an easy target for the enemy’s long-range troops.

Duke of Extinction appeared in Su Xiao’s hand. He only had a moment, as the Duke’s Domain activated; a scope extended from the barrel of the gun.

As he pulled the bolt, Su Xiao leaned close to the scope, aligning the crosshair with the distant undead commander.

The chance of hitting with this shot was merely thirty percent. Moreover, he only had one chance. If he dared to jump again, the anti-air attacks from the undead troops wouldn’t be merciful.

Su Xiao pulled the trigger with his index finger. The recoil from the Duke of Extinction sent him flying backward. Before being propelled away, he saw, through the scope, a burst of blood mist as the upper body of the undead commander was obliterated.

Flesh splattered as the undead commander’s nearby personal guards stood frozen in place.

As Su Xiao landed, he had already stowed away the Duke of Extinction. His sole objective now was to break through, either fight his way out alive or die trying.

An hour later, Su Xiao sat on a horse corpse, with blood dripping from his hair.

Five minutes before, Su Xiao had successfully broken through. The pursuing cavalry troop was also dealt with, yet he couldn’t bring himself to be joyful.

Though the breakout was a success, this had been the first time the undead army discovered Su Xiao’s whereabouts. If he couldn’t fight his way out from the first encirclement, he might as well find a scenic spot and bury himself.

The current situation was that the undead clan had constructed an even larger encirclement. The previous time Su Xiao took breaking out was too long. If he hadn’t guessed wrong, this entire area was now surrounded by the undead troops.

If Su Xiao was encircled again, it wouldn’t be tens of thousands but potentially tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of undead soldiers seeking to encircle and kill him.
