Chapter 1256: Chapter 71: Wall of God

One day later.

The yellow sand surged wildly across the vast desert. Su Xiao was traveling at high speed, and with A Mu, the ’walking air conditioner’, by his side, he hardly felt the heat of the desert climate.

Su Xiao took out a compass; this item was a green quality equipment. It did not point north but always pointed in one direction, making it easy to distinguish directions.

After comparing it with the map, Su Xiao was very close to the ’Seme Swamp.’ At his current speed, he would reach the Wall of God in less than five hours.

Su Xiao was somewhat fatigued, but he didn’t have time to rest. The duration of his stay was getting shorter; if he couldn’t extend it, reaching the Relic of the Shadow of Annihilation Law was uncertain.

Besides the map of the Holy Sodding Kingdom, Su Xiao also had a somewhat simplistic map of the Undead Empire.

The Undead Clan also had an empire. Or rather, the towns within the Undead Clan’s territory were not fewer than those within the Human territory.

The capital of the Undead Clan was in the Dark Moon Marsh. Don’t assume that it’s a barbaric land because above the Dark Moon Marsh is a large area of intertwined vines, and above the vines is the Undead Clan’s capital.

In terms of mechanics and construction, the Undead Clan’s technology far surpasses that of Humans. As for agriculture, Humans completely outshine the Undead Clan.

Su Xiao’s destination this time is near the Dark Moon Marsh. He only knows the approximate location of the Relic of the Shadow of Annihilation Law, and he still needs to search for its specific location after reaching the Dark Moon Marsh.

Putting away the map, Su Xiao continued forward. Up ahead was the ’Seme Swamp.’

Four and a half hours later, Su Xiao crossed the ’Seme Swamp,’ which felt difficult to traverse due to the overwhelming abundance of flora and fauna.

Su Xiao looked into the distance, where a pitch-black sky wall appeared; he had reached the Wall of God.

The Wall of God separated the Human and Undead Clan territories. It wasn’t entirely made of piled rocks; most of the Wall of God was constructed from rocks. Some areas had special geographical features where it was built with solid ice or non-flammable wood; there was even a section built from animal bones.

If the Undead Clan wanted to invade the Human territory, they would have to break through the Wall of God. The Undead Clan wouldn’t extend the battle line too long; they would only attack certain areas of the Wall of God, such as Lumas Snowfield Area (where Huang Yan is located), Keke Baya Gobi, among others.

The Wall of God at these locations shared the common challenge of making it difficult for Humans to transport materials there, and even if they could, it would require a significant human and material effort.

Clearly, the section of the Wall of God where Su Xiao was located wasn’t targeted by the Undead Clan, and he wouldn’t choose such an area either.

Su Xiao needed to penetrate the Undead Clan’s territory. Charging into the army of the undead may sound formidable, but in reality, it isn’t a wise choice.

On the contrary, Su Xiao found a section the Undead Clan was least likely to attack. Due to ’Seme Swamp’s abundant resources, there was no problem with transportation difficulties here. The Undead Clan hadn’t attacked here for hundreds of years.

Su Xiao advanced to the Wall of God. Upon reaching the wall, he heard the sound of a horn.

”Person beneath the wall, halt!”

A dozen soldiers stood at the edge of the Wall of God, eyeing Su Xiao with full alert. These soldiers maintained constant vigilance, meaning Su Xiao was spotted as soon as he approached, indicative of the overall discipline of the Holy Sodding Kingdom’s army.

This section of the Wall of God was quite peaceful, yet the soldiers remained sharp. If this were a location where war occurred frequently, how sharp would the soldiers be?

Su Xiao pulled a roll of parchment from his pocket, tied it with a few stones, and tossed it up to the hundred-meter-high stone wall.

The dozen soldiers instinctively ducked behind the wall, and a crossbow emerged from behind, aimed at Su Xiao. After about ten seconds, the crossbow was pulled back.

”Are you... Iron Hand?”

One soldier atop the wall, his eyes full of disbelief, asked. The highest-ranking officer he’d seen was their area’s Legion Commander, and Iron Hand, a direct official of the King, was something he’d only heard of, never expecting to witness in person today.

A large group of soldiers soon gathered on the wall, reporting Su Xiao’s arrival to their superiors. While executing all this, the soldiers on the wall lowered a rope ladder.

Su Xiao climbed the rope ladder to the Wall of God, where hundreds of soldiers had gathered. They didn’t believe in things like letters unless their superiors confirmed it; otherwise, they wouldn’t lower their guard. Nearly a thousand years of warfare had honed the Holy Sodding Kingdom’s army to a rare sharpness.

”Lord Iron Hand, may I ask what brings you to the front line?”

A squad leader spoke; he genuinely couldn’t understand Su Xiao’s purpose here, and Su Xiao’s aura puzzled him. The squad leader originally thought Iron Hand’s aura would be akin to an assassin’s, heavy on blood energy but sharp in gaze.

However, the situation was different. The squad leader sensed a thick blood aura from Su Xiao. Rather than believing Su Xiao was Iron Hand, the squad leader was more inclined to think Su Xiao was a Legion Commander who had fought on the battlefield for over a decade.

”Special mission.”

Su Xiao casually replied and moved toward the other side of the Wall of God. There was no sign of the Undead Clan outside; what lay in sight was a vast wasteland.

[Hint: The Hunter has activated the Adventure Group advancement assessment.]

...

Seeing this prompt, a smile spread across Su Xiao’s lips. He had lingered in the Royal Capital for so long, unable to activate the Adventure Group advancement assessment, and now could only activate it on the front line battlefield.

From Su Xiao’s observation on the Original world’s liaison platform, most Contractors were on the front line battlefield or near the Royal Capital. Only a few unlucky ones were teleported to some desolate areas.

The first thing Contractors did upon entering the Original World was find ways to improve their status while gaining benefits; hence many opted to head to the front line battlefield, where status increases were straightforward: kill the enemy.

Meanwhile, a smaller portion targeted the Royal Capital, which required a certain status to enter; otherwise, one might only be sightseeing or even be wanted due to a suspicious identity.

Despite Su Xiao seemingly accomplishing many things within the Royal Capital, his actual stay there was brief. When he left the Royal Capital, other Contractors hadn’t yet advanced into it.

[Mark generation in progress...]

A burning sensation flared on the back of Su Xiao’s hand; soon, a skull-shaped mark appeared. The energy within the mark felt familiar, somewhat like the Power of the Undead but slightly different.

[Undead Locating Mark has been generated.]

[The Hunter has conducted Adventure Group advancement assessments 0 times.]

[The Hunter’s stay duration has been cleared, and he can return to Reincarnation Paradise at any time (non-combat state).]

[Within ten minutes from the start of the assessment, the Hunter must enter the Undead Clan territory. Otherwise, 10,000 Paradise coins will be deducted per minute. If Paradise coins are insufficient, the Hunter will be forcibly expelled from this Original World.]

[Timer is active, and the assessment rating will depend on the Hunter’s duration in this world (the duration before accepting the assessment is not counted).]

...

Su Xiao successfully activated the Adventure Group advancement assessment task; not only that, he solved the stay duration issue. From now on, he needn’t worry about how much time he had left but rather how long he could endure.

It’s somewhat peculiar to say this, but considering the mark on Su Xiao’s hand, it’s not surprising.

The ’Undead Locating Mark’ initially sounds like a mark for locating the Undead Clan but is, in fact, quite the opposite. Based on the assessment’s content, Su Xiao deduced that as long as the mark remained on his hand, some or all of the Undead Clan would keep hunting him down.

This was all Su Xiao’s speculation. If true, his situation might not be promising. The worst-case scenario was having to search for the Relic of the Shadow of Annihilation Law while under the relentless pursuit of the army of the undead.
