Dungeon Corpse Stacker: I Absorb Everything to Become Ominous Monarch

The afternoon sun hung low over the Eastern Strait, casting long, crimson ribbons of light across the quiet swells of the Pacific Ocean.

From the high stone balcony of Coastal Bunker Alpha, three hundred feet above the crashing surf, the ocean looked motionless.

Fifty miles off the coast, the grey silhouette of the Sovereign-Class Dreadnought Vanguard-Zero sat anchored in the center of the deep channel, its two twin magnetic rail cannons pointed skyward at a neutral forty-five-degree elevation. Alongside the basalt plateau, the thirty-five-foot frames of five Abyssal Dredge Chimeras stood upon the water like dark obsidian monoliths, their silver-violet eye clusters watching the empty southern horizon where the American Seventh Fleet had once hovered.

Boss Victor stood beside the stone balustrade, his canvas work coat dusted with cement powder from the new pier constructions in District One.

He struck a match against his thumb, holding the flame to the tip of his cigar until a thick stream of grey smoke curled into the cool sea draft.

”The final tally for the week came through ten minutes ago, Sovereign,” Victor spoke, his rough voice carrying the calm satisfaction of a man who had balanced a dangerous ledger. ”Ninety-six foreign merchant vessels cleared through the fifty-mile line. We unloaded one hundred and twenty thousand tons of grain, forty thousand barrels of diesel fuel, and over eight thousand unrefined monster cores. The storage vaults under District One are full.”

Renan stood at the edge of the balcony, his dark woolen coat wrapped tight against the freshening wind.

Inside his chest, his twin-chambered Sovereign core beat in slow, heavy cycles, radiating twenty-two thousand units of core density through his marrow.

”And the Western fleets?” Renan asked softly.

”They haven’t moved an inch,” Victor answered, letting out a long puff of smoke toward the harbor. ”The Seventh Fleet’s rear guard is sitting idle sixty-five miles south, keeping their radars locked on dead space. Captain Miller from the Titan issued a fleet warning that any American warship crossing our line without diplomatic clearance will be treated as target practice for Vance’s rail cannons.”

Victor paused, turning his bloodshot eyes toward the young monarch standing at his side.

”The ocean belongs to us now, Sovereign,” Victor added, his yellowed teeth showing in a grim, approving smile. ”You raised a wall out of the deep, swallowed their flagship, executed two world-class hunters, and built a fleet out of their scuttled steel. Geneva can scream about illegal territory all they want, but no admiral on earth is going to cross this water again.”

Renan did not look pleased. His violet eyes remained fixed on the horizon, cool, calculating, and detached from the illusion of victory.

”The ocean was the easy part, Victor,” Renan said, his voice quiet as dropping iron.

Victor’s smile faded slightly. ”The easy part?”

”A fleet is loud,” Renan explained, turning away from the stone rail. ”A warship gives you an engine to target, a hull to sink, and a general to execute. When a country sends forty warships to your door, they are admitting that they do not know how to break you quietly.”

He walked toward the heavy oak doors leading to the subterranean transport shaft, his leather boots making no sound against the flagstones.

”The bankers in Zurich are not going to send another fleet, Victor,” Renan continued, his tone sharp as a razor edge. ”They are going to sit in their mountain vaults, print paper warrants, freeze our international clearing codes, and pay three regional hunter guilds forty billion dollars to seize our grain trucks in the Alpine passes. They want to starve our city while keeping their own hands clean.”

Victor followed half a step behind, his brass lighter clicking open in his fist. ”Then it is time we stop watching the waves.”

”The waves are guarded,” Renan said as the heavy iron lift doors slid open before them. ”Vance has fifteen thousand shadow soldiers holding the seabed, Arthur is commanding the forward dreadnought, and Thorne’s tectonic domain covers every foot of the continental shelf. No enemy will set foot on this peninsula.”

He stepped into the lift, turning his gaze toward the lower level indicator as the steel cables groaned.

”I am going to District Four,” Renan added softly. ”Prepare the fast transport cutter for Marseilles. We sail at midnight.”

Twenty minutes later, the air smelled no longer of salt spray or diesel soot.

Inside Room 402 of Saint Jude’s Medical Center in District Four, the room was quiet, warm, and sterile, filled with the rhythmic, soft hum of an advanced life support monitor.

Sunlight filtered through the sheer white curtains, illuminating the clean hardwood floor and the small porcelain vase of fresh blue orchids sitting on the bedside table.

Rhea lay beneath the crisp white linen sheets, her pale face relaxed in a calm, undisturbed sleep.

The dark, blue-black veins that had once cracked across her neck and temples had faded into thin, barely visible silver threads beneath her translucent skin. On the IV stand beside her bed, a vacuum-sealed glass canister filled with amber liquid, harvested from the specialized Swiss resin filters delivered by the Greek freighter Panagiotis, dripped at a steady, precise rate into her intravenous line.

Renan sat in the wooden chair beside her bed, his dark coat resting over his lap.

He reached out, his pale, broad fingers gently closing over his sister’s thin, frail hand.

Through his palm, the Sovereign mana seeped into her skin with delicate, surgical care, scanning the delicate pathways of her circulatory system and the quiet, stabilized core resting beneath her breastbone.

The wild, chaotic mana fluctuations that had threatened to tear her body apart six months ago were completely gone. Her pulse was steady, her lungs expanded with deep, unhurried breaths, and her internal energy channels were rebuilding themselves around the pure, refined mana supplied by his legion’s harvest.

Sylas appeared silently in the shadow of the curtain rod above the window frame, his slender, dark form blending seamlessly with the drapes, his gauntleted hands folded over his chest.

”The ward is secured, Sovereign,” Sylas’s quiet whisper echoed through the quiet room, soft as falling leaves. ”Four hundred shadow skirmishers are embedded in the concrete foundations beneath Saint Jude’s. Two High-Knight guards are watching the roof. No assassin, no foreign agent, and no regional guild hunter can step within five hundred yards of this building without being torn to pieces.”

Renan did not look up from Rhea’s face.

He smoothed a lock of dark hair from her forehead, his touch lighter than feather dust.

”She looks peaceful, Sylas,” Renan whispered into the quiet room.

”Her core density has increased three percent since yesterday, Sovereign,” Sylas replied from the shadows. ”Chief Miller’s medical team believes she will awaken before the winter snows fall over the capital.”

Renan sat in silence for three long minutes, feeling the warm, steady heartbeat beneath his fingers.

Everything he had built, the blood spilled in the dungeon, the execution of the Apex Guild masters, the destruction of the Seventh Fleet, the execution of Sir Arthur Pendelton and General Marcus Vance, and the raising of an iron wall out of the sea, had started in this quiet room, beside this bed.

He squeezed her hand once, gently, then carefully laid her slender fingers back onto the white linen sheet.

Renan stood up from his chair, pulling his woolen coat back over his broad shoulders as his violet eyes narrowed into cold, unyielding points of argent light.

”Keep her safe, Sylas,” Renan commanded, his voice dropping into a tone that carried the absolute, terrifying weight of a monarch declaring an international war.

”With my life, Sovereign,” Sylas answered, bowing his head in the shadows.

Renan turned away from the bed, stepping out of Room 402 into the long, quiet corridor of the hospital ward where two shadow guards bowed their dark helms as he passed.

He walked out onto the front steps of Saint Jude’s Medical Center, looking up at the afternoon sky where thin grey clouds were drifting over the tall glass towers of Sector Zero.

The ocean behind him was silent. The Eastern Strait was won.

The Seventh Fleet was broken, the sea tax was established, and fifteen thousand shadow constructs held his borders in an iron grip that no foreign power could shatter.

Yet as Renan looked toward the west, where the sun was setting behind the distant mountains leading toward continental Europe, he knew that the true war for his sister’s future was no longer waiting in the water.

It was waiting six hundred feet beneath the granite peaks of the Swiss Alps, inside Zurich Vault Number Zero, where the bankers of the World Council sat behind forty billion dollars in bounty paper, believing their gold was safe from the dead.

Renan reached down, clicking his leather collar tight against the evening chill as he stepped down the stone stairs toward the waiting black transport car.

”Let them count their paper,” Renan whispered into the gathering twilight, his violet pupils flaring with cold, ruthless ambition as the second major volume of his campaign turned its final page. ”The dead are coming for the bank.”
