Dungeon Corpse Stacker: I Absorb Everything to Become Ominous Monarch

The air inside the underground Situation Room smelled of stale filter coffee, cold leather seats, and ozone from the running encryption racks.

Three floors beneath the West Wing, sixteen senior officials sat around the long teak conference table. The ambient lighting was dimmed to highlight the large digital wall display showing a high-resolution satellite overlay of the Eastern Pacific.

A red neon ring marked the fifty-mile exclusion line surrounding the Nero Trench, inside which three captured American fuel barges and nine F-45 Ghosthawk airframes sat immobilized under shadow guard.

Director Hayes of the Defense Intelligence Agency stood at the head of the table, his laser pointer highlighting the heat signatures of the four Westinghouse nuclear cores recently integrated into the British cruiser HMS Cumberland.

”The acoustic telemetry was confirmed by the Guam listening post forty minutes ago,” Hayes spoke, his tone crisp, dry, and devoid of political polish. ”General Marcus Vance is deceased. His neural link was severed at six twenty-one AM, followed by the extraction of his physical remains into a General-grade shadow entity.”

A heavy, suffocating silence gripped the room.

The Secretary of Defense, his collar unbuttoned and tie loosened, rubbed his bloodshot eyes with trembling fingers.

”A General-grade shadow entity,” the Secretary repeated, his voice raspy from twenty hours of continuous crisis briefings. ”The Joint Chiefs spent twelve billion dollars on the Colossus Prime platform to ensure American kinetic dominance over the Pacific Rim. Now we have a dead general driving sixty-eight tons of iridium armor under the flag of an unaligned scavenger.”

National Security Advisor Vance-lineage representative leaned forward, her knuckles turning white against the mahogany table edge.

”What is the status of the Seventh Carrier Fleet’s rear guard?” she demanded.

”The USS Titan has completed its disengagement to sixty-five miles south,” Hayes replied, switching the display to a tactical fleet chart. ”Captain Miller executed emergency orders to prevent further vessel seizures. However, the loss of the auxiliary support wing leaves our Pacific carrier group without forward logistics. They cannot maintain air patrols over the demarcation line without refueling from Honolulu.”

High General Thornecraft’s face appeared on the secondary encrypted monitor on the wall, streaming live from his command transport en route to Andrews Air Force Base.

His weathered features were hard as carved oak, his uniform tunic spotless despite forty-eight hours without sleep.

”Gentlemen, Madam Secretary,” Thornecraft’s voice echoed through the high-fidelity speakers with cold, military authority. ”Let us dispense with the political posturing. The Seventh Fleet did not fail due to cowardice or lack of tactical execution. General Vance delivered forty thousand foot-tons of mechanical pressure and forty-eight orbital tungsten spikes directly onto the target’s position.”

The Secretary of Defense looked up at the screen. ”And the result, General?”

”The result,” Thornecraft said quietly, ”is that the target absorbed two nuclear fission reactors, raised a two-mile basalt plateau out of the ocean floor, and converted our primary kinetic assault platform into his forward artillery commander. If we deploy the Third Fleet from San Diego, we are simply providing him with another forty warships to weld into his underwater wall.”

The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs slammed his open palm onto his leather notebook.

”So the United States Navy simply surrenders its Pacific posture?” the Chairman demanded, his face flushing red under the fluorescent lights. ”We allow a rogue sovereign entity to tax commercial shipping, seize American nuclear material, and execute a four-star general without retaliation?”

Thornecraft fixed the Chairman with a cold, unblinking glare through the video feed.

”If you wish to draft the letter to thirty thousand American military families explaining why their sons drowned in forty fathoms of salt water off the Nero Trench, Mr. Chairman,” Thornecraft replied, ”I suggest you take the podium at the Pentagon press room tomorrow morning. My recommendation to the Chief Executive is clear: pull all surface combatants back to the two-hundred-mile line immediately.”

The Secretary of Defense turned toward the head of the table, where the Special Presidential Envoy sat quietly, holding a thick, red-bound dossier stamped with the gold seal of the Swiss Banking Consortium.

”What is Geneva’s position, Envoy?” the Secretary asked.

The Envoy opened the red dossier, smoothing the crisp white pages with two fingers.

”Director Van Houten has secured the unanimous consent of the World Hunter Federation,” the Envoy reported, his voice smooth, calculated, and entirely detached from military emotion. ”The diplomatic summons has been issued. Effective midnight UTC, the international banking clearinghouses in Zurich, London, and Tokyo will enforce a total financial blackout on all sovereign-adjacent accounts.”

He looked around the table, his sharp eyes lingering on the frustrated Joint Chiefs.

”We are shifting the theater of engagement, gentlemen,” the Envoy continued. ”The Sovereign Zone produces no synthetic mana reagents of its own. They have three million civilians in the lower districts who require imported grain, specialized medical supplies, and international currency clearing to maintain their local economy. If we freeze their assets, their domestic market will collapse within ninety days.”

Director Hayes of the DIA leaned over his podium, his laser pointer deactivating with a soft click.

”An economic blockade assumes the target will play by the rules of international commerce, Envoy,” Hayes cautioned. ”Our intelligence indicates that Boss Victor has already initiated contact with the black-market cartels operating out of Marseilles and Tokyo Bay. If they cannot buy grain through official clearinghouses, they will trade raw mana cores directly with the underworld.”

The Special Envoy smiled thinly, a cold, humorless expression that did not touch his eyes.

”Let them trade with the underworld,” the Envoy said softly. ”The Swiss Banking Consortium controls seventy percent of the global illegal monster-core reserves stored in the Alpine vaults. If Victor attempts to smuggle cores into Europe, our specialized hunter teams will seize his shipments at the border. We will starve them silently, without firing a single missile.”

The Secretary of Defense took a slow, deep breath, reaching for his pen to sign the executive directive resting before his notepad.

”The open military campaign in the Eastern Strait is officially concluded,” the Secretary declared, his voice heavy with the grim realization of a global superpower forced into a stalemate. ”All carrier strike wings will fall back to Guam. The twelve billion dollar Pacific defense allocation is hereby re-routed to black-budget intelligence operations under DIA oversight.”

He capped his pen with a sharp, metallic snap that echoed through the quiet room.

”Inform Geneva that Washington endorses the financial blackout,” the Secretary added, looking up at Thornecraft’s video monitor. ”Let us see if the Ominous Monarch can absorb a famine the way he absorbed Vance’s railguns.”

High General Thornecraft did not smile. He adjusted his cap, his dark eyes lingering on the satellite map of the Nero Trench where the black silhouette of the new dreadnought sat undisturbed in the calm water.

”God help the bankers in Zurich,” Thornecraft whispered as his video feed cut to static, ”when he comes to collect his interest.”
