Dungeon Corpse Stacker: I Absorb Everything to Become Ominous Monarch

The terminal clock above the encrypted clearing exchange in Zurich ticked past midnight UTC with a dry, mechanical click.

In less than three seconds, sixty-four international correspondent banks across Western Europe, North America, and East Asia severed their optical data feeds to the sovereign clearing accounts of Sector Zero.

Every credit line opened by independent trading consortia was frozen, every bill of lading bound for the Eastern Strait was flagged for immediate maritime seizure, and the global credit rating for the peninsula was erased from the central ledgers in London.

Inside a damp, disused wine cellar beneath the old docks of Marseilles, three thousand miles from the Nero Trench, the quiet was broken only by the drip of groundwater and the hum of an encrypted satellite transceiver.

Jean-Luc, a senior smuggling kingpin belonging to the Mediterranean Black-Market Syndicate, sat behind a rusted iron table, his tailored velvet coat smelling of cheap brandy and stale tobacco.

He tapped his manicured fingernails against a thick leather folder containing forty forged customs certificates stamped with fake French maritime clearances.

Across the table sat Sylas, his slender, dark form cloaked in a heavy wool coat that absorbed the dim yellow light of the single hanging bulb above them.

”The price just tripled, my friend,” Jean-Luc spoke, his French accent thick, smooth, and laced with quiet, predatory arrogance. ”Zurich locked the clearinghouses five minutes ago. If I move forty trucks of synthetic resin filters through the Alpine tunnels toward your ships, my drivers are risking forty years in a Swiss federal penitentiary.”

Sylas did not shift his weight. His gauntleted hands remained folded inside his sleeves.

”The agreement signed in Piraeus was two hundred unrefined Tier-A cores per shipment, Jean-Luc,” Sylas replied softly, his voice barely audible over the hum of the transceiver.

Jean-Luc let out a short, throaty laugh, waving his diamond-ringed hand dismissively.

”Piraeus was yesterday,” Jean-Luc sneered, leaning forward over his leather folder. ”Yesterday your Monarch was fighting warships in the ocean. Today he has no bank accounts, no insurance coverage, and no legal standing in any port on this continent. If he wants my trucks to cross the border, he pays six hundred cores per convoy. Take it, or let his people in District Four drink salt water.”

The heavy oak door at the back of the wine cellar did not creak or burst open.

It simply ceased to exist.

A silent wave of dark, high-density pressure passed through the six-inch oak planks, reducing the wood, iron hinges, and stone frame into a fine grey powder that settled silently onto the damp dirt floor.

Jean-Luc jumped up from his chair, his hand darting toward the silver-plated pistol holstered beneath his velvet coat.

”Who stands there?” the French smuggler shouted, his voice cracking as the temperature inside the cellar plummeted twenty degrees in a single second.

Renan walked through the powdered doorway.

He wore his dark woolen coat buttoned to his throat, his pale hands resting inside his pockets, his leather boots leaving no footprints in the dust.

Beside him stepped Shadow Knight Arthur, his silver-black pauldrons humming with the cold, suppressed light of the severed crown relic, his claymore held loosely at his side.

Behind them, filling the narrow stone corridor leading up to the street, the thirty-foot shadow of an Iron Colossus Giant stood motionless, its pneumatic hammer fist resting against the arched ceiling.

Jean-Luc backed away until his shoulders struck the damp stone wall behind his desk, his silver pistol slipping from his sweating fingers and clattering onto the dirt.

The two heavy-set bodyguards standing in the corners of the cellar did not draw their weapons; they sank to their knees, their lungs rattling as fifty atmospheres of pure Sovereign density pressed down upon their collarbones.

Renan walked to the rusted iron table, taking the seat Jean-Luc had just vacated.

He reached out, his long, pale fingers picking up the folder of forged customs certificates, flipping through the forty crisp pages with an unhurried, rhythmic sweep of his thumb.

”Six hundred cores, Jean-Luc?” Renan asked, his voice calm, level, and carrying a quiet, terrifying resonance that vibrated through the stone foundations of the dock house.

Jean-Luc swallowed hard, his throat dry as chalk as he stared into the young monarch’s violet eyes.

”Sovereign...” Jean-Luc stammered, his fingers trembling against his velvet lapels. ”You... you were supposed to be on your dreadnought in the Pacific. The Swiss intelligence reports said your fleet was locked inside the trench.”

”The Swiss intelligence reports were written by men who count paper in heated offices,” Renan replied, setting the folder back down onto the rusted iron plate.

He looked up at the ceiling, where the distant rumble of Marseilles harbor traffic hummed through the concrete piers above.

”The financial blockade was enacted at midnight,” Renan continued softly. ”The bankers in Zurich believe that by freezing our numbers on their screens, they can turn the world into a wall around my city. They believe that men like you will starve my people for a fifty percent margin.”

Jean-Luc dropped to both knees, his velvet coat dragging through the wet dirt as he pressed his forehead against the iron edge of the table.

”I was merely negotiating a risk premium, Sovereign!” Jean-Luc pleaded, his voice shaking with genuine, unfiltered panic. ”The Alpine Sentinels have placed three hundred guild hunters at the mouth of the Gotthard Tunnel! If my trucks are seized, I lose my entire distribution network!”

Renan leaned back in his chair, resting his elbow on the table arm.

”You will not lose your distribution network, Jean-Luc,” Renan said, his violet pupils flaring with cold, surgical ambition.

He gestured toward the narrow corridor behind him, where the thirty-foot Iron Colossus Giant shifted its stance, its pneumatic accumulator letting out a soft, high-pressure hiss of steam.

”Your forty trucks will depart Marseilles at three AM as scheduled,” Renan commanded. ”Inside each trailer, alongside your resin filters, you will stow three of my shadow skirmishers.”

Jean-Luc raised his pale, sweat-streaked face. ”And when the Alpine Sentinels stop the convoy at the Swiss border?”

A faint, cold smile touched the corner of Renan’s lips.

”When the guild hunters open your trucks expecting to find grain and resin,” Renan whispered into the cold cellar air, ”they will find the invoice for Zurich’s blockade.”

Renan stood up from the table, taking the forged customs certificates and sliding them into his dark coat pocket.

He turned toward the hidden stone stairwell leading north toward the Swiss frontier, Shadow Knight Arthur falling into step behind his left shoulder as the shadows of the wine cellar stretched across the stone floor like dark, reaching hands.

”Tell your drivers to keep their hands on the wheel and their windows rolled up,” Renan added without looking back. ”The Alpine pass is going to be very loud tonight.”
