Dungeon Corpse Stacker: I Absorb Everything to Become Ominous Monarch

Two hundred and ten nautical miles south of the Nero Trench, the ocean was dead quiet.

A line of seventeen NATO supply transports, their grey hulls laden with spare turbine assemblies, high-explosive depth charges, and replacement radar pods, sat idle in the rolling Pacific swells. Their heavy diesel engines whined in neutral gear, their cooling water discharges pumping white foam into the dark water as they held their stationary coordinates.

Aboard the frigate HMS Montrose, Rear Admiral Sterling-Greene leaned his elbows against the bridge wing railing, his eyes fixed on his handheld tactical receiver.

The screen displayed a glowing yellow arc drawn precisely across the nautical chart at the two-hundred-mile mark.

”Signal from Naples Fleet Command, Admiral,” the communications officer reported from the wheelhouse doorway. ”The Mediterranean strike wing has been ordered to drop anchor at Diego Garcia. All Western naval escorts are instructed to maintain a sixty-mile stand-off distance from the yellow line.”

Sterling-Greene took a slow, deep breath of the damp ocean air, his bloodshot eyes staring toward the empty northern horizon.

”They cut the lead lines,” Sterling-Greene murmured, his voice dry as parched parchment. ”The Pentagon spent three days telling us that Vance’s kinetic mechs would clear the trench by Tuesday. Now they tell forty ships to park in the open ocean and watch the gulls.”

”The diplomats in Geneva issued a general ceasefire, sir,” the officer offered hesitantly. ”They claim the tribunal will settle the territorial boundary.”

Sterling-Greene turned his head, letting out a short, bitter rasp that turned into a cough.

”The tribunal is a curtain drawn over a graveyard,” the admiral spat, wiping his lip with his sleeve. ”Vance is dead, Arthur is dead, and the boy is currently welding our captured reactors into his scuttled warships. We aren’t holding this line to protect the trade routes. We are sitting out here because nobody in Washington or London has the stomach to tell the public that the Pacific front belongs to a scavenger.”

He turned back toward the chart table, shoving his cap down over his brow.

”Keep the screws turning at five knots,” Sterling-Greene ordered. ”Maintain radar silence toward the north. If a shadow hull crosses that yellow line, do not illuminate it with targeting radar. Turn the ship around and run.”

Two hundred and ten miles to the north, inside the subterranean tactical center of Coastal Bunker Alpha, the same line was drawn across a high-resolution plasma display.

Boss Victor stood before the glass map, a steaming mug of black coffee in one fist, his brass lighter balancing between the knuckles of his left hand.

Beside him, Chief Quartermaster Miller was monitoring six radio receivers, their green frequency needles oscillating with the quiet, static-laced traffic of the idle Western fleets.

”They stopped cold at the two-hundred-mile marker, Sovereign,” Victor said, gesturing with his coffee mug toward the cluster of yellow icons on the display. ”The American strike transports, the French ammunition ships, the British repair tenders; every one of them locked their rudders the moment Geneva broadcast the ceasefire.”

Renan stood by the open tactical table, his dark woolen coat hanging clean over his shoulders, his fingers resting lightly against the polished brass bezel of the central compass.

”They did not stop because they fear my broadside, Victor,” Renan spoke softly, his violet eyes reflecting the cold amber glow of the screens.

Miller looked up from his headphones, wiping condensation from his spectacles. ”The long-range hydrophones show no active sonar sweeps from their escorts, Sovereign. Their carrier strike wings have returned to their hangar decks. Their operational readiness dropped thirty percent in four hours.”

”It is a administrative pause,” Renan explained, his tone level, precise, and devoid of false triumph. ”Van Houten and his bankers realized that sending steel across my sea is merely providing raw materials for my forge. They are clearing the water so their legal team can freeze our accounts in Zurich.”

Victor took a long sip of his bitter coffee, his scarred jaw tightening.

”Let them freeze the bank accounts,” Victor grunted, setting his mug down on an ammunition crate with a heavy clatter. ”Sector Zero doesn’t use Swiss francs to pay the dockworkers anyway. We pay in dried meat, diesel fuel, and unrefined mana cores mined from the lower rifts.”

”Sector Zero can survive on raw cores, Victor,” Renan replied, turning his gaze toward the municipal map of the capital displayed on the secondary screen. ”District Four cannot.”

He pointed a slender finger at the four residential sectors surrounding Saint Jude’s Medical Center.

”The capital’s water filtration plants rely on synthetic resin filters manufactured exclusively in Basel,” Renan continued, his voice dropping into grave, calculating precision. ”The life support systems in the hospital require liquid helium shipments cleared through the Geneva trade exchange; and the three million civilians living behind our basalt wall buy eighty percent of their grain from international shipping consortia.”

Victor’s eyes narrowed into hard, dark slits, the brass lighter in his hand coming to a sudden halt.

”So the ceasefire is a chokehold,” Victor muttered, his thumb flipping the lighter cap open with a sharp, metallic click. ”They draw a circle around our sea, tell the merchant ships that their insurance is void if they dock at our piers, and wait six months for our hospital generators to run out of coolant and our bakeries to run out of flour.”

”Precisely,” Renan said.

He stepped away from the tactical table, walking toward the heavy iron stairwell leading up into the subterranean logistics vaults of Sector Zero.

”A military blockade is loud, Victor,” Renan said as his boots touched the cold concrete stairs. ”It gives you a target to strike, a warship to sink, and a general to execute. An economic blockade is silent. It kills a city through small, invisible shortages until the people tear down their own gates from within.”

Victor followed half a step behind, his heavy boots echoing through the damp limestone tunnel.

”What are your orders, Sovereign?” Victor asked, his voice low, rough, and ready for action. ”We have four thousand four hundred shadow soldiers sleeping in the bedrock. If you want me to send Sylas to Switzerland to visit the directors of those banks—”

”Not yet,” Renan interrupted, his tone calm and unhurried. ”Sylas is guarding Rhea’s bed. We do not strike the banks until we know where they store their gold.”

They reached the iron blast door of Vault Seven, where hundreds of wooden crates filled with captured American optical drives, high-grade mana crystals, and unrefined monster ores were stacked twenty feet high under the bright halogen lights.

Renan stopped before an open crate containing three hundred raw Tier-A wyrm cores harvested from the Eastern Strait.

He reached down, picking up a heavy, translucent blue orb that pulsed with cold, unrefined mana, its ambient weight pressing comfortably against his palm.

”Victor,” Renan commanded, looking up into the old cartel boss’s eyes.

”Listening, Sovereign.”

”Activate the underground smuggling corridors through the Mediterranean,” Renan ordered, his violet pupils flaring with cold, sharp ambition. ”Reach out to the black-market brokers in Paris, Tokyo, and Zurich who used to buy contraband from Guild Apex. Tell them the Sovereign Zone is open for business.”

Victor’s rough face broke into a grim, knowing grin, his yellowed teeth showing between his lips.

”We offer them unrefined cores at thirty percent below the Geneva exchange rate,” Victor said, catching the strategy instantly. ”The cartel kingpins in Europe will jump at the margin. They don’t care about Van Houten’s insurance bans as long as the profit margin is thick enough.”

”We do not merely sell them cores, Victor,” Renan added, dropping the Tier-A core back into its straw packing with a heavy thud. ”We buy their supply lines. We buy their shipping manifests, their false customs seals, and their vault access codes.”

Renan turned toward the tunnel leading back toward the upper docks, where the newly born dreadnought Vanguard-Zero sat humming softly in the sheltered lagoon.

”Geneva thinks they have locked the front door of my house with a paper key,” Renan whispered into the quiet, cold tunnel air. ”We are going to buy their back door before they realize the lock is missing.”

Behind them, three hundred miles to the east across the dark ocean, a high-frequency emergency broadcast broke through the static on Miller’s primary receiver, carrying the panicked voice of a Swiss trade official reporting that three heavy mana-ore shipments bound for the Alpine reserve had just vanished from the docks of Marseilles without a trace.
