Dungeon Corpse Stacker: I Absorb Everything to Become Ominous Monarch

The rain over Lake Geneva smelled of wet pine, autumn moss, and expensive marble dust.

Behind the bomb-proof, double-glazed windows of the World Hunter Federation’s Grand Amphitheater, forty delegates sat in tiered rows of dark mahogany desks. Below the vaulted brass ceiling, a three-dimensional holographic projector painted the air above the central dais in stark shades of emerald green and high-contrast red, mapping the current maritime positions of the Pacific Basin.

A single red circle, fifty nautical miles in diameter, was centered squarely over the Nero Trench.

Inside that circle, six green tactical markers representing captured American supply barges were drifting alongside forty-two scuttled warship hulls, their hulls glowing with strange, steady signatures of combined nuclear and necrotic energy.

Supreme Director Van Houten stood behind the central podium, his silver hair combed back tight, adjusting his gold-rimmed spectacles with a hand that twitched twice before settling on his water glass.

He did not tap his gavel. The silence inside the amphitheater was already suffocating.

”The Pentagon’s satellite reconnaissance was finalized thirty minutes ago,” Van Houten spoke, his cultured Dutch accent unusually flat. ”The United States Navy has officially completed its tactical retreat to sixty-five miles south. General Marcus Vance is confirmed dead. His bio-metric link was severed at six twenty-one AM, followed immediately by the unauthorized administrative override of twelve auxiliary logistics platforms.”

A low, jagged murmur ran through the European delegation on the second tier.

Archbishop Laurent, representing the Holy See’s diplomatic corps, pulled his embroidered silk stole tighter around his shoulders, his rosary beads clicking against his ivory belt.

”And Sir Arthur Pendelton?” Laurent asked, his voice echoing against the marble acoustics of the hall. ”The Vatican escort reported that the Holy Relic Blade was shattered during the initial broadside. Has London confirmed the recovery of his remains?”

High General Thornecraft, sitting at the head of the American delegation with three rows of campaign ribbons pinned to his crisp dark greens, did not look up from his encrypted tablet.

”There are no remains, Archbishop,” Thornecraft said, his voice clipped, gravelly, and devoid of military theater. ”Arthur’s transponder was extracted three miles north of the trench. His soul-thread was integrated into the Sovereign’s forward vanguard within six minutes of his cardiac arrest. He is currently standing on the bridge wing of a scuttled British cruiser, supervising the installation of four Westinghouse nuclear reactors into our captured hulls.”

Director Chen of the Asian Consortium slammed his flat palm onto his desk, the sound echoing like a pistol shot across the room.

”Four Westinghouse cores!” Chen shouted, his face reddening with uncontained fury. ”You left four compact fission modules in open water for a scavenger to harvest? The entire international embargo on tactical nuclear mana-hybrids was designed to prevent regional warlords from securing independent power grids! Now he has enough electrical wattage in his bay to power three heavy industrial sectors indefinitely!”

Thornecraft slowly raised his eyes, fixing Chen with a cold, bloodshot glare.

”If you wish to sail to the Eastern Strait and request the return of those cores, Director Chen,” Thornecraft replied quietly, ”the Seventh Fleet left twelve heavy railguns on the seabed that you are welcome to salvage. My pilots dropped forty-eight sub-orbital tungsten rods on his head at Mach 9. He did not dodge them. He raised a two-mile wall of solid granite from the ocean floor, caught the kinetic impact on his chest, and ate the reactor rods out of Vance’s frame.”

The delegates on the lower benches leaned back in their leather seats, exchanging pale, terrified glances.

Van Houten cleared his throat, tapping his finger against the digital glass of his podium to refresh the executive summary.

”Let us look at the arithmetic, gentlemen,” Van Houten said, turning his gaze toward the financial representatives from Zurich, London, and Tokyo sitting on the executive balcony. ”In ninety-six hours, the Sovereign Authority of the peninsula has completely dismantled a British carrier strike group, executed two World-Class Hunters, absorbed four nuclear reactors, and established a fifty-mile exclusion zone that our combined fleets cannot penetrate without risking total annihilation.”

He zoomed the holographic map inward, highlighting the newly formed basalt plateau in the center of the trench.

”The continental shelf is no longer a geographical border,” Van Houten continued, his voice dropping into grave precision. ”It is a fortified military redoubt. If we launch another amphibious or orbital strike, we are simply providing him with more refined metals, more core density, and more corpses to extract for his legion.”

Director Chen leaned over his microphone, his brow furrowing into deep, bitter lines.

”So the World Council simply surrenders the Pacific trade routes?” Chen demanded. ”We allow an unvetted, unaligned necromancer to tax every commercial freighter passing between Tokyo and the Western Seaboard?”

”We buy time,” Van Houten stated flatly, placing his palms flat on the podium.

The room fell silent once more.

”The emergency ceasefire order has already been transmitted to all member fleets,” Van Houten explained, gesturing toward the diplomatic dispatch displayed on the side screens. ”We have issued a formal summons for the Sovereign to appear before the High Tribunal here in Geneva. He will not attend, of course. He knows as well as we do that the summons is a piece of paper.”

Archbishop Laurent leaned forward, his dark eyes narrowing behind his spectacles. ”If he ignores the tribunal, what is the secondary protocol?”

Van Houten looked up toward the executive balcony, where three men in tailored black suits sat motionless, their lapels pinned with tiny gold keys representing the Swiss Banking Consortium.

”If we cannot break his stone with iron, we choke his stone with gold,” Van Houten said, his tone turning as cold as the autumn rain outside. ”The peninsula produces no synthetic mana-reagents of its own. Their medical facilities require specialized Swiss crystalline filters; their civilian infrastructure relies on international clearing houses to settle food imports; and their black-market vaults in District One are emptied every thirty days to pay their local cartels.”

One of the bankers on the balcony leaned toward his microphone, his voice smooth, dry, and entirely devoid of emotion.

”The financial blockade of Sector Zero will take effect at midnight,” the banker reported, his fingers tracing a digital ledger on his desk. ”All sovereign-adjacent accounts in Zurich, London, and Tokyo will be frozen. Every foreign merchant vessel attempting to dock at his ports will face immediate forfeiture of their global maritime insurance. We will see how well his shadow soldiers eat when the bakeries in District Four run out of imported grain.”

High General Thornecraft let out a short, cynical bark that sounded like a dry cough.

He closed his tablet, sliding it into his leather briefcase, and stood up from his desk.

”You bankers never learn,” Thornecraft muttered, shoving his chair back against the floorboards with a sharp scrape. ”You think a man who swallowed a nuclear core and dragged forty warships out of the deep is going to sit in his office and fill out your loan applications?”

Van Houten frowned, adjusting his glasses. ”General Thornecraft? The council session is not adjourned.”

Thornecraft picked up his hat, adjusting the gold braid on his visor as he turned toward the exit doors of the amphitheater.

”I am going back to Washington to double the perimeter guards around our continental rifts,” Thornecraft said, his voice echoing through the quiet hall like an unheeded warning. ”Freeze his accounts if it makes your directors feel safe in their beds, Van Houten. But if I know anything about scavengers who rise out of the mud, when you starve them of bread, they do not beg for crumbs. They come to your kitchen and take the whole stove.”

The heavy oak doors of the amphitheater slammed shut behind the American general, leaving the forty delegates staring at the glowing red circle on the holographic map, where the dark silhouette of the new dreadnought sat silently in the center of the ocean, waiting for the sky to change.
