Dungeon Corpse Stacker: I Absorb Everything to Become Ominous Monarch

The night ocean forty-six miles south of the continental shelf did not look like water.

Under the harsh glare of two thousand sodium-arc floodlights, the sea resembled an industrial staging yard. Thirty-four gray hulls, painted in non-reflective radar-absorbent matte, formed a four-mile wide crescent that carved the swells into frothing ridges of white foam. At the geometric center of the formation sat the USS Titan, an eight-hundred-foot nuclear-powered strike platform that rode low in the water, its flat armored flight deck replaced by four reinforced hydraulic gantries.

Above each gantry hung a machine that mocked the traditional architecture of human warfare.

Twelve Colossus Mark-IV combat units hung suspended from the cranes, their thirty-foot exoskeletons forged from dark gray depleted uranium and ribbed with high-pressure hydraulic lines. Each unit stood on four reverse-jointed legs built to distribute sixty tons of physical weight across soft maritime silt. In place of right hands, the machines mounted triple-barreled rotary railguns fed by internal ammunition chutes; in place of left hands, they held eight-foot serrated kinetic spades designed to anchor their hulls directly into bedrock.

General Vance stood within the observation pulpit of the central gantry, the wind whipping his woolen garrison cap against his brow.

He wore no dress tunic. His torso was encased in the pilot harness of his personal command frame, the titanium connectors at his collarbone glowing soft amber as the neural telemetry from all twelve units poured into his cerebral cortex.

Beside him, Captain Miller, commander of the carrier strike wing, held a digital clipboard with white-knuckled fingers.

”The British government has completed their emergency cabinet session,” Miller said, his voice flat with forced military discipline. ”Prime Minister Hastings confirmed that no further royal assets will deploy east of Singapore. Their ambassador in Washington has officially requested that we open a diplomatic dialogue to retrieve Arthur’s remains.”

Vance did not look at the officer. His gray eyes were fixed on the northern horizon, where the low storm clouds met the black edge of the sea.

”Arthur has no remains to retrieve, Miller,” Vance answered, his voice steady as an iron anchor sliding down a hawsepipe. ”The boy didn’t keep Arthur’s corpse in a freezer. He melted Arthur’s soul into the hull of his ships. If Hastings wants to talk to his First Knight, he can buy a hydrophone and listen to the metal groan.”

Miller swallowed hard, glancing toward the glowing bathymetric map mounted on the gantry railing.

”The fifty-mile line sits four thousand yards ahead of our forward destroyer screen,” Miller continued. ”The moment our bow bulbs cross that coordinate, the Sovereign’s acoustic array will register an active border breach. Should we hold at the perimeter and wait for the Gungnir satellite to establish orbital alignment?”

Vance reached forward with his mechanical gauntlet, his steel fingers depressing the primary authorization toggle on the gantry console.

The hydraulic locks holding the twelve Colossus frames released with a collective, deafening hiss of pressurized nitrogen.

”We do not wait for satellites that take forty minutes to reposition, Captain,” Vance said, his voice cutting through the thrum of the super-dreadnought’s steam turbines. ”A predator does not respect a boundary because someone drew it on a chart. He respects it when you press your knuckles into his fence and he feels the iron.”

Vance leaned over the rail, speaking directly into the fleet-wide command frequency:

”All Vanguard barge units, drop anchors at the forty-eight mile mark. Deploy the kinetic spades. Lock the legs to the continental shelf. If a single shadow entity rises from the foam, peel the surface with three-round tungsten bursts.”

Across the four-mile front, the heavy steel barges riding beside the Titan dropped four colossal ballast anchors into thirty fathoms of water.

The ocean floor beneath the American vanguard shuddered as the sixty-ton Colossus mechs stepped down from their gantries onto the wave-washed pontoon decks. Their hydraulic actuators whined in high-pitched unison, three dozen rotary railgun barrels rotating half a turn to calibrate their magnetic accelerators, locking their sights onto the empty, dark water to the north.

Eight miles away, atop the tilted conning tower of the sunken carrier HMS Victorious, Renan stood with his boots resting on the frozen steel railing.

The cold ocean wind carried the faint, oily scent of American aviation fuel and the high-frequency whine of twelve nuclear reactors running at ninety percent capacity. Behind Renan, Shadow General Ignis knelt in silence, the tip of its black executioner blade buried three inches into the deck, its curved horns silhouette against the rising moon.

Beside them, Shadow Knight Arthur stood motionless as an ancient statue.

The silver-black plate armor of the fallen knight reflected the distant sodium lights of the American battle group, the twin argent embers behind his visor tracking the movement of each Colossus frame with the cold, calculating detachment of a master tactician.

”Vance is methodical,” Arthur spoke through the abyssal link, his metallic voice humming through Renan’s skull. ”He does not charge forward to seek glory as I did. He builds an iron trench, secures his supply train, and waits for his artillery to hollow out the enemy’s foundation. The mechs he brought are built on stolen dwarven hydraulics taken from the Rocky Mountain Rift.”

Renan did not draw his void dagger. He pulled his hands from his woolen coat pockets, letting his bare fingers hang loose in the damp air.

Through his feet, the vast, subterranean nervous system of the Iron Wall whispered to him.

Forty-two sunken warships, anchored by Shadow Commander Thorne’s tectonic pillars, formed a continuous web of kinetic mass that stretched across thirty square miles of seabed. Every rivet, every buckled bulkhead, and every rusted hull plate was filled with his Sovereign mana.

He could feel the forty Mark-Ten plasma canisters sleeping inside the magazines, their cerulean gel stabilized and ready to detonate upon his mental command.

Through the radio receiver at his lapel, Boss Victor’s voice broke through the low rush of the waves.

”Sovereign,” Victor said, his rough voice competing with the sound of diesel generators running in Bunker Alpha. ”The harbor radars in District One just finished the preliminary scan. The American formation has stopped forty-eight miles out. They aren’t crossing the fifty-mile threshold with their main hulls. They are dropping stationary firebases along the edge.”

Renan looked down into the dark water beneath his boots, watching thirty slender shadow skirmishers glide effortlessly through the swells like dark barracudas, patrolling the deep current forty fathoms down.

”Vance is testing the perimeter, Victor,” Renan replied, his voice calm, flat, and steady as the deep sea. ”He wants to see if I am an undisciplined warlord who will waste his army charging across forty miles of open water into his railgun cones.”

”What are your orders for the coastal batteries?” Victor asked. ”Do we dial the coordinates for the thirty-two guns and saturate their barges before they finish locking the spades?”

Renan turned his back on the distant lights of the American fleet, walking toward the shattered companionway of the carrier deck.

”No,” Renan said, his violet eyes glowing with a dark, patient clarity in the gloom. ”Let Vance build his little iron fence in the dark. Let him spend three hundred million dollars welding his toys to the seabed.”

Shadow Knight Arthur tilted his crested helm. ”You will not strike them, Sovereign?”

Renan paused on the steel companionway, the hem of his coat brushing against the frost-covered iron plates.

”A wall that only looks outward will crumble from behind, Arthur,” Renan answered, looking back toward the mainland where the distant lights of the peninsula’s capital glittered against the dark hills. ”Vance is waiting for dawn to fire his toys. That gives us five hours to ensure our own house is made of stone.”

Renan stepped down into the dark bowels of the carrier, his voice echoing back up through the hatch with the weight of an unyielding decree:

”Arthur, take command of the forward barricade. Ignis, hold the trench line. Victor and I have an audit to run on the capital before the first American tungsten rod falls.”

Across the four miles of open water, the first experimental supersonic reconnaissance drone launched from the deck of the USS Titan, shrieking into the night sky at Mach 5, its high-magnification infrared sensors pointing directly toward the coastline where Boss Victor’s logistics warehouses lay waiting in the dark.
