Dungeon Corpse Stacker: I Absorb Everything to Become Ominous Monarch

The black stone plateau smelled of boiling sulfur, cooling tungsten slag, and salt crust.

Three hundred feet above the churning ocean, the newly raised basalt shelf formed an uneven arena two miles across. Deep fissures ran through the rock where the forty-eight orbital spikes had buried their tips, glowing with angry cherry-red heat that made the cold morning air shimmer in wavering waves. Seawater trapped in shallow depressions boiled away in thin, hissing plumes of mineral steam.

At the southern edge of the shelf, the sea broke open in an explosive surge of hydraulic foam.

A massive steel catamaran landing craft, its bow ramp reinforced with ten-inch armor plating, slammed its flat prow against the shelf.

With a deafening shriek of tearing rock, the bow ramp dropped onto the basalt.

The Kinetic Colossus Prime stepped onto the stone.

The forty-four-foot slate-gray titan did not stagger under the shift in terrain. Its four reverse-jointed legs drove three-inch titanium cleats straight through the surface rock, locking its sixty-eight tons of physical mass into the continental shelf. Behind it, the seven surviving Colossus Mark-IV production units advanced in a disciplined firing wedge, their twin sixty-millimeter rail cannons already spinning up with high-frequency electromagnetic whines.

Inside the fluorocarbon immersion tank, General Vance felt the hard, unyielding density of the prehistoric stone beneath his mechanical sabatons.

His resting pulse sat at fifty beats per minute.

”Advance in echelon,” Vance’s thought pulsed through the neural command bus, flat, heavy, and devoid of the theatrical bravado that had brought Arthur to his grave. ”Do not engage with energy fields. Use staggered kinetic salvos. Crush the stone beneath their feet before they solidify their domain.”

Eight hundred yards to the north, Renan stood atop an elevated basalt outcrop, his dark woolen coat snapping against the offshore wind.

He did not draw back into the mist. Behind him, Shadow Commander Thorne knelt like an immovable hill of cracked volcanic granite, his massive chest rising and falling as dark violet mana healed the superficial fractures caused by the orbital strike.

To Renan’s right stood Shadow Knight Arthur, silver-black claymore resting across his pauldrons.

To Renan’s left, Shadow General Ignis materialized from a pool of dark twilight, its twelve-foot frame clad in jagged executioner plate, a two-handed obsidian war blade humming with cold, black dragon-fire that dripped onto the stone like burning tar.

”They brought iron to our stone, Sovereign,” Arthur murmured through the abyssal link, his visor reflecting the crimson heat vents along the American mechs’ shoulders.

”Then let them leave their scrap upon it,” Renan answered.

Renan flicked his left wrist forward.

Shadow General Ignis surged forward in an explosion of black velocity.

The twelve-foot shadow general did not run across the basalt; it moved in long, devastating bounds, covering eighty yards in a single breath, its obsidian greatsword trailing a horizontal arc of black dragon-flame.

The lead Colossus Mark-IV on the American right flank reacted instantly.

Its automated threat radar tracked the inbound heat signature, its twin sixty-millimeter rail cannons firing a four-round burst of depleted uranium penetrators at point-blank range.

Ignis did not dodge.

The shadow general twisted its torso thirty degrees mid-stride, letting two supersonic slugs punch clean through its left shoulder plate.

Instead of biological blood, thick ropes of dark violet necrotic mana spilled from the wound, knitting the star-metal armor back together before the empty shell casings could bounce against the stone. Closing the final thirty paces in a blur of midnight mist, Ignis brought the obsidian executioner blade down with seventy tons of physical leverage.

CLANG!

The black greatsword sheared through the Mark-IV’s sloped depleted uranium breastplate like a cleaver through frozen tallow.

The machine’s primary hydraulic reservoir ruptured with an apocalyptic shriek of escaping oil.

Before the automated fire extinguishers could trigger, Ignis drove its armored knee into the pilot cabin, ripping the sixty-ton mech backward off its reverse-jointed legs and slamming the crumpled chassis into the boiling tungsten crater behind it.

”Unit three lost,” Briggs’s voice crackled across the fleet network from the carrier bridge far to the south. ”Hostile heavy infantry has breached the perimeter!”

Inside the immersion tank, Vance did not flinch.

”Focus fire on the center,” Vance commanded, his neural will overriding the remaining six production units. ”Ignore the escort. The Sovereign is the anchor.”

The six Colossus Mark-IVs tightened their wedge around the Colossus Prime.

Twelve twin rail cannons depressed their barrels simultaneously, locking their magnetic crosshairs directly onto Renan’s chest four hundred yards away.

Renan took a single step down from the basalt outcrop, his boots touching the warm, cracked stone.

He did not call upon Thorne to raise another wall. He did not order Arthur to deploy the spatial friction barrier.

Renan reached down with his right hand, drawing the matte-black void dagger from his waist, its spine glowing with the newly acquired argent resonance stripped from Arthur’s star-metal crown.

[Monarch Authority: Kinetic Inversion] [Domain Radius: 400 Yards] [Target: Forward Kinetic Vector ’Twelve Railgun Penetrators’]

The twelve railguns fired in a simultaneous, deafening thunderclap that tore the air above the plateau into a vacuum tunnel.

Twenty-four three-inch depleted uranium darts screamed across the four hundred yards of open rock at Mach 7.

Renan did not raise the dagger to parry. He simply took another calm, unhurried stride forward.

As the supersonic projectile stream crossed within twenty paces of his chest, the physical velocity of the darts did not slow down; it reversed its vector ninety degrees straight down.

CRACK! CRACK! CRACK!

The twenty-four solid uranium slugs slammed straight into the basalt at Renan’s feet, punching a neat, circular trench twenty feet deep into the rock, venting geysers of pulverized stone dust that drifted across the arena like gray snow.

Not a single grain of tungsten shrapnel touched the hem of his dark coat.

Through the clearing dust, the ground trembled with a rhythm that was neither seismic nor tectonic.

It was the heavy, crushing footfall of sixty-eight tons of solid iridium armor advancing at full hydraulic sprint.

The Kinetic Colossus Prime closed the distance across the basalt shelf like a falling locomotive.

General Vance did not fire rail cannons. He did not deploy secondary cluster munitions.

The forty-four-foot titan lowered its center of gravity, its four reverse-jointed legs clawing deep furrows into the bedrock as its massive right arm cocked backward. The nine-foot forged iridium ram, the Mountain Breaker, locked into its magnetic compression sleeve with four deafening, pneumatic clacks that sounded like the closing of a bank vault.

Forty thousand foot-tons of mechanical pressure gathered within the hydraulic piston in a fraction of a microsecond.

”Scavenger,” Vance’s voice tore through the air through the Colossus Prime’s external acoustic speakers, grinding and heavy as two continents grinding together. ”Let us see if your shadow system can absorb classical mass.”

The Colossus Prime lunged forward, the nine-foot iridium ram thrusting straight toward Renan’s skull with the unstoppable momentum of a mountain falling from the sky.

Renan did not leap backward. He did not shift his feet to dodge.

His violet pupils flared into brilliant, blinding amethyst, his core density tightening into a single, immovable singularity beneath his breastbone.

He planted his left heel into the cracked basalt, brought his bare left palm up, and met the charging sixty-eight-ton iridium ram head-on.
