Dungeon Corpse Stacker: I Absorb Everything to Become Ominous Monarch

The air inside the newly formed lagoon behind the basalt plateau smelled of salt brine, ozone, and the bitter reek of burning diesel fuel.

Surrounded on three sides by the three-hundred-foot volcanic shelf raised by Thorne, the calm green water of the sheltered basin was crowded with floating steel pontoons. Sixteen commercial harbor tugs dispatched from Sector Zero chugged slowly through the swells, their heavy hemp hawsers taut as they nudged the captured American logistics barges alongside the half-submerged hull of the British cruiser HMS Cumberland.

Across the weather deck of the cruiser, three hundred dockyard workers from District One scrambled over rusted ladders, carrying heavy oxygen hoses, pneumatic impact drivers, and spools of insulated silver busbars.

Boss Victor stood on the cruiser’s forward gun turret, a hard hat strapped over his gray hair, checking grease-stained engineering manifests clamped to an iron board.

”Swing the crane twenty feet to port!” Victor bellowed through a battery-powered megaphone, waving a gloved fist toward the barge Prometheus-Four. ”Lower the primary reactor cradle directly into the forward boiler trunk! If anyone drops two billion dollars of American uranium into the bilge, I will weld you into the double bottom myself!”

High above the deck, suspended from four heavy steel cables attached to Thorne’s massive stone forearm, the first Westinghouse compact fission reactor hung suspended in the damp air.

The twelve-foot cylindrical core gleamed with sterile stainless steel and braided lead shielding, completely intact, its auxiliary glycol coolant pumps humming with a soft, purring vibration.

Chief Quartermaster Miller stood near the edge of the open deck hatch, his thick wire-rimmed spectacles clouded with moisture.

”The mounting lugs line up within half an inch, Victor,” Miller shouted up from the open barbette, holding a digital calipers against the cut hull frames. ”The British cruiser was built around steam turbines running at three hundred pounds per square inch. This American core produces five times that thermal output with zero fuel consumption. If we bridge the steam loops through the auxiliary dynamos, we can power twelve magnetic railgun banks without lighting a single boiler.”

Footsteps sounded along the companionway.

Renan walked onto the cruiser’s bridge wing.

His woolen coat was dry, its burned hem neatly trimmed away, his hands resting quietly inside his pockets as he observed the industrial chaos below. Beside him stood the towering obsidian silhouette of Shadow Colossus Vance, the machine’s four reverse-jointed legs planted firmly into the reinforced deck beams, its horizontal visor glowing with calm, subordinate argent light.

Renan looked down at the open boiler trunk where the massive nuclear reactor was slowly descending into the dark belly of the warship.

”How long until the primary circuit takes the load?” Renan asked.

Vance’s acoustic speaker clicked softly, his deep, mechanized voice vibrating through the cruiser’s iron framework.

”The American engineering crews completed the coolant bypass twenty minutes ago, Sovereign,” Vance reported, his cadence precise, mathematical, and unhurried. ”With Chief Miller directing the electrical conduits, the forward reactor will reach critical synchronization in two hours. The other three cores are being routed to the heavy fleet destroyers anchored in the southern basin.”

Vance raised his left hand, pointing an armored finger toward the two forward twin gun turrets of the cruiser.

”The British eight-inch naval rifles are obsolete,” the shadow general continued. ”Their chemical powder magazines are susceptible to acoustic shock. I have ordered the salvage squads to strip the gun barrels and replace them with the sixty-millimeter magnetic rail cannons recovered from the four ruined Colossus chassis. Fed by the Westinghouse core, each turret can cycle forty rounds of depleted uranium penetrators per minute at Mach 7.”

Renan leaned his forearms against the salt-rusted bridge railing, feeling the cold steel pulse with the combined heartbeat of machine and shadow.

He did not merely observe the welding torches and the swinging cranes.

Beneath the waterline, through forty fathoms of black water, his Sovereign mana was weaving a deeper, permanent bond.

Five hundred shadow engineers, constructs formed from the fallen technicians and deckhands of the Seventh Fleet, moved through the flooded double bottoms of the warship like dark eels.

They were not using steel bolts or rivets to secure the American machinery; they were fusing the cold-rolled depleted uranium armor plates directly into the ship’s frames using dark necrotic resin.

Where the British hull had been fractured by torpedoes or stressed by depth charges, the black star-metal knit the wounded iron together, transforming the scuttled wreck into a single, seamless biomechanical leviathan.

Boss Victor climbed the narrow iron ladder up to the bridge wing, wiping black grease from his cheek with the back of his canvas sleeve.

He tossed a rolled blueprint onto the chart table, clicking his brass lighter to ignite the half-smoked stub of a cigar.

”The harbor tugs just brought forty tons of ammunition from the transport barge,” Victor said between two thick puffs of blue smoke. ”Forty thousand rounds of armor-piercing slugs. That gives us enough kinetic teeth to engage any task force Geneva can scrape together from the Mediterranean.”

Renan did not look at the ammunition charts. His eyes remained fixed on the southern horizon where the low cloud bank met the empty grey sea.

”Geneva will not send another fleet, Victor,” Renan said softly.

Victor paused with his lighter in midair, his scarred brow furrowing. ”They won’t? The Americans just lost their supreme theater commander and four nuclear cores. You think the Joint Chiefs will tuck their tails and pretend this water belongs to us?”

”The Joint Chiefs are soldiers who ran an equation and lost their answer,” Renan answered, his purple eyes narrowing with cold, calculating detachment. ”They know that sending another carrier group across forty miles of open water simply means feeding more iron into my trench. The threat will not come from the sea anymore.”

A sudden high-pitched chime echoed from the communication console inside the wheelhouse.

Chief Quartermaster Miller hurried through the bulkhead door, his hands trembling as he held an unsealed teletype transcript printed on yellow military paper.

”Sovereign,” Miller stammered, his eyes darting between Renan and the massive shadow titan standing behind him. ”The long-range satellite receiver just picked up an encrypted diplomatic dispatch broadcast across all international emergency frequencies.”

Renan took the yellow paper, his thumb smoothing the creased edge.

The header bore the gold-embossed seal of the World Hunter Council in Geneva, countersigned by the diplomatic plenipotentiaries of the United States, the European Union, and the Vatican.

The text was short, formal, and devoid of the gilded ultimatums that had preceded the Seventh Fleet’s arrival.

[Emergency Communiqué to the Self-Declared Sovereign Authority of the Eastern Strait] [From: The Supreme Council of the World Hunter Federation, Geneva] [Subject: Immediate Cessation of Hostilities and Convening of Extraordinary Inquiry] [Notice: All member states have been ordered to suspend offensive operations within two hundred nautical miles of the demarcated zone effective 12:00 UTC.] [Direct Order: The World Council summons the Sovereign Authority to appear before the High Tribunal in Geneva to account for the deployment of unauthorized necrotic and spatial warfare assets.]

Victor leaned over Renan’s shoulder, reading the lines with a harsh, cynical sneer.

”A tribunal,” Victor spat onto the deck. ”They get their teeth kicked in forty miles from our shore, they lose two world-class hunters, and their immediate response is to invite you to Switzerland so their lawyers can read you a parking ticket.”

Renan folded the yellow paper cleanly in half, then half again, letting the small square slip into his woolen coat pocket.

He looked down into the open engine room where the massive Westinghouse reactor let out its first, triumphant mechanical surge, sending three hundred thousand volts of pure electric current roaring through the newly wired copper conduits of the cruiser.

The deck plates beneath their boots hummed with newfound, terrifying vitality as the twin magnetic railgun turrets on the forward deck rotated forty-five degrees to the right, their twelve-foot barrels locking onto the empty southern sky with automated precision.

”They are not inviting me to a debate, Victor,” Renan said, his voice quiet, cold, and carrying the merciless finality of an iron gate closing. ”They are buying time to count their dead, build a wall of paper around their banks, and hide the keys to their vaults.”

Renan turned toward the companionway, his dark coat sweeping behind him as he stepped toward the ladder leading down into the heart of the newly born dreadnought.

”Finish the welds on the railguns, Victor,” Renan commanded without looking back. ”Let Geneva draft their documents. When the ink on their summons is dry, we will show them what an invoice from the Nero Trench looks like.”
