50 Chapter 50: To the Hotel she will Go 2026-10-26

Several months had passed in what Gene had come to think of as the strange and wonderful rhythm of his new life.

The Nightmare Grand Hotel continued to flourish.

The Midnight Academy expanded to nearly two hundred students.

The major villages of Grimhollow and Moonfen had become regular trading partners.

New roads were being laid.

The hotel kitchens were booked weeks in advance thanks to Chef Lucien’s increasingly legendary reputation.

And Gene himself had settled into a routine that felt almost absurdly domestic for a man who ruled a haunted pocket dimension.

He taught classes.

Managed trade agreements.

Opened mystery boxes.

Occasionally fought arena battles.

And every night, he got to fall asleep beside Selene.

If someone had told his old self that this would become a normal occurrence, he would have laughed in their face.

Now he could not imagine wanting anything else.

Which was precisely why he knew something was wrong the moment Selene received a challenge letter.

⸻

A Challenge in Silver and Gold

It arrived at breakfast.

A servant in the livery of House Solmont entered the dining hall carrying a silver tray.

Upon it rested a sealed envelope embossed with the sun-and-crown crest of Prince Cassian Aurelius.

The room grew quiet as the servant approached Selene.

“My lady.”

Selene accepted the letter.

The moment she broke the seal, her eyebrows rose.

Gene noticed immediately.

“Bad news?”

Selene read silently for another moment.

Then she let out a short, disbelieving laugh.

“Not exactly.”

Lilith leaned over from her seat.

“Is it treasure?”

Selene handed the letter to Gene.

He read the elegant script.

⸻

Lady Aurelia Valmont of House Solmont requests the honor of a formal summoner’s duel against Lady Selene Mooncrest.

Reason for Challenge: To determine which woman is more worthy of Prince Cassian Aurelius’s admiration.

Terms: Standard noble match. Three summons permitted.

⸻

Gene lowered the letter slowly.

“Wow.”

Jesse Belle nearly choked on her coffee.

“Bless her insecure little heart.”

Victor adjusted his spectacles.

“That is a surprisingly honest reason.”

Mother Sarah sipped her tea.

“At least she is direct.”

Lilith looked confused.

“Why would she want to fight Selene over a prince when Selene already has Gene?”

Selene smiled.

“An excellent question.”

Captain Stringer folded his wooden hands.

“Jealousy… impairs… logic.”

The Caretaker nodded once.

Gene handed the letter back to Selene.

“Are you going to accept?”

Selene’s silver eyes narrowed.

“Oh, I absolutely have to.”

⸻

Selene’s Worry

Later that evening, Gene found Selene in the observatory.

Moonlight streamed through the crystal dome.

She stood with her arms folded, gazing into the distance.

Gene approached quietly and wrapped his arms around her from behind.

“You’re thinking about...”

Selene leaned into him.

“I’m just embarrassed.”

Gene blinked.

“Why?”

She turned to face him.

“Because while you’ve been building an entire kingdom, I’ve barely done anything of my own.”

Gene frowned.

“That’s not true.”

Selene touched his chest.

“I’ve helped you. I’ve advised you. I’ve been with you every step of the way.”

Her expression softened.

“But my own domain has been… neglected.”

Gene had visited Selene’s domain only once.

What he had seen was beautiful: crystal forests, moonlit castles, enchanted meadows, and storybook landscapes filled with elegant magic.

But she was right.

Compared to the thriving Nightmare Grand Hotel, her world had remained relatively static.

Selene sighed.

“I have summons but they are not that good Gene.”

He blinked.

“You have more than just dragon summons?”

She raised an eyebrow.

“Of course I do.”

Gene rubbed the back of his neck.

“I… guess I never thought about it.”

Selene laughed softly.

“Most people are too distracted by your monsters.”

Gene grinned.

“That’s fair.”

She grew thoughtful.

“I want to fight this battle seriously. But more than that…”

Her silver eyes shone.

“I think that maybe it’s time we combine our worlds.”

Gene stared.

“We can combine them?”

Selene nodded.

“Our domains are linked through us. If we merge them, we could create something extraordinary.”

Gene’s heart began to race.

“A horror kingdom and a fairy realm.”

Selene smiled.

“Exactly.”

Gene kissed her forehead.

“Then let’s figure out how.”

⸻

Seeking Family Wisdom

The next morning, Selene traveled to her parents’ estate.

Gene offered to accompany her, but she shook her head.

“This is something I need to discuss with them first.”

Gene understood.

She kissed him before leaving.

“Try not to summon anything catastrophic while I’m gone.”

“No promises.”

⸻

Gene’s Morning Routine

With Selene away, Gene spent the day handling routine responsibilities.

By late afternoon, he made his way to the gymnasium.

The Midnight Academy’s exercise hall had become one of Gene’s favorite places.

It was spacious, bright, and equipped with both mundane and magical training tools.

Lilith was already there, wearing a tiny workout outfit and matching headband.

Fluffy sat nearby like a proud three-headed spectator.

“Gene!” she called. “You’re late!”

Gene laughed.

“I’m two minutes early.”

Lilith crossed her arms.

“That’s late.”

They began their usual workout.

Push-ups.

Light weights.

Stretching.

Lilith insisted on counting every repetition dramatically.

“Twenty-seven! Twenty-eight! Twenty-eight and a half!”

Gene, sweating heavily, lay flat on the mat after a set of sit-ups .

Lilith stood over him with her hands on her hips.

“You’re getting stronger.”

Gene groaned.

“That was the goal.”

Lilith smiled.

“You’re still squishy.”

“Thanks.”

She patted his shoulder.

“You’re my favorite squishy human.”

Gene laughed.

He sat up and reached for his water bottle.

That was when the gym doors opened.

⸻

Selene Returns

Gene looked up.

And forgot to breathe.

Selene stood in the doorway.

Her expression was luminous with excitement.

Behind her, moonlit magical circles shimmered.

Gene rose to his feet.

“How did it go?”

Selene walked toward him, her smile widening.

“My parents knew exactly what to do.”

“They did?”

Selene nodded.

“Apparently, There is an ancient ritual called a Convergence Bond.”

She stopped in front of him.

“If two summoners are linked strongly enough, they can merge their domains.”

Lilith gasped.

“Double kingdom!”

Selene laughed.

“Yes.”

Gene stared.

“That’s incredible.”

Selene stepped closer.

“There’s more.”

She touched his chest.

“I want to show you something.”

Gene smiled.

Selene’s eyes sparkled.

“My new summons.”

⸻

The Moon Summoner’s Power

They moved to the open courtyard.

The entire family soon gathered, drawn by the unusual surge of magic.

Selene stood at the center of the stone circle.

Moonlight poured around her.

For the first time, Gene saw her not merely as his partner, but as a powerful summoner in her own right.

Power radiated from her with quiet elegance.

She lifted one hand.

Silver runes bloomed into the air.

“Come forth.”

The courtyard trembled.

⸻

The Dragons

The first summoning circle expanded overhead.

Three colossal shadows descended from the moonlit sky.

The dragons landed with enough force to shake the grounds.

Gene stared upward, speechless.

Argentwing

A massive silver dragon with elegant horns and eyes like polished mercury.

Noctis

A midnight-black dragon whose scales shimmered with stars.

Rosethorn

A graceful rose-gold dragon with crystalline wing membranes.

Each dragon lowered its head respectfully to Selene.

Lilith screamed in delight.

“DRAGONS!”

Fluffy barked excitedly.

Jesse Belle grinned.

“Well, ain’t that somethin’.”

Even the Caretaker looked impressed.

Gene looked at Selene in utter astonishment.

“You had three more dragons this whole time?”

Selene smiled innocently.

“Perhaps.”

Gene put a hand over his heart.

“You’ve been holding out on me.”

⸻

Storybook Heroes

Selene raised her hand again.

More circles appeared.

One by one, new summons emerged.

A handsome prince in shining silver armor.

A graceful fairy godmother.

A stoic wolf knight clad in enchanted steel.

A tiny group of armored toy soldiers.

A crystal unicorn.

A talking owl wearing spectacles.

Gene’s jaw dropped lower with each appearance.

The courtyard now resembled a storybook kingdom come to life.

Lilith ran in delighted circles.

“This is totally the greatest day ever!”

Mother Sarah smiled.

“How enchanting.”

Captain Stringer adjusted his hat.

“Strategic… versatility… rather impressive.”

Victor looked stunned.

“Selene, you are terrifyingly powerful.”

Selene inclined her head modestly.

“Thank you.”

Gene approached slowly.

“You never showed me any of this.”

Her expression softened as she blushed.

“I think part of me enjoyed living in your world.”

She touched his cheek.

“But I want you to know all of me.”

Gene kissed her deeply.

When they parted, he whispered:

“You’re amazing.”

Selene smiled.

“So are you.”

⸻

The Battle to Come

As the summoned creatures mingled with the hotel residents, Selene outlined her plan.

For the duel against Lady Aurelia, she intended to field:

• Argentwing

• The Wolf Knight

• The Fairy Godmother

Gene laughed.

“That feels almost unfair.”

Selene smirked.

“Good.”

Lilith tugged on Selene’s dress.

“Can I ride a dragon?”

Selene knelt.

“After dinner.”

Lilith cheered.

⸻

A Greater Possibility

As twilight deepened, Gene and Selene stood together watching their summons interact.

Argentwing conversed with Lucien about smoked meats.

The Fairy Godmother praised Mother Sarah’s classroom discipline.

The Wolf Knight sparred respectfully with Jesse Belle.

Rosethorn let children slide down one wing.

Gene wrapped an arm around Selene.

“Your world is incredible.”

Selene leaned against him.

“So is yours.”

She took his hand.

“Imagine what they could become together.”

Gene looked around.

Haunted monsters.

Fairy-tale heroes.

Dragons.

Children.

Teachers.

Friends.

Family.

His imagination ignited.

“A kingdom where nightmares and fairy tales coexist.”

Selene smiled.

“Our kingdom.”

⸻

The Last To Arrive

The others eventually drifted away.

Only Gene and Selene remained in the moonlit courtyard.

The dragons rested nearby like living mountains.

Silver wind stirred Selene’s hair.

Gene squeezed her hand.

“You said there was more.”

Selene’s smile turned mischievous.

“There is.”

She stepped back.

Moonlight intensified around her.

A new summoning circle formed beneath her feet.

Unlike the others, this one was enormous.

Ancient.

Complex.

Its runes blazed with power so intense that even the dragons lifted their heads.

Gene felt the hairs on his arms stand on end.

Selene looked at him, her silver eyes glowing.

“There is one summon I’ve never attempted before.”

Gene swallowed.

“What is it?”

Selene raised both hands.

The circle erupted with brilliant light.

And from within the magic, a shape began to emerge.

Something vast.

Something regal.

Something that made the very world tremble.

Selene’s voice rang across the courtyard.

“Gene… meet…”

The light exploded.
