Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

Li Yu spread out a civilian map, with several circles drawn on it.

The two sat on the ground, smoking, and Third Uncle looked at Li Yu and said:

”So, your plan is:

Once the Jackals come back, we’ll start sending people out for reconnaissance? Then take the repaired helicopter and fly back. Why do you need to go back yourself? Can’t someone else go back instead?”

Li Yu glanced at Luo and others downstairs who were fervently repairing the helicopter.

He then looked at Zhang Rufen and others who were sitting honestly within a circle.

Lowering his voice, he said: ”Enhanced version of the Zombie Attraction Potion, I need to go back to get that.”

Upon hearing this, Third Uncle’s pupils shrank to the size of a pinhole.

He was somewhat shocked.

He had seen the potency of the Zombie Attraction Potion before, back when Ma Di and the others first developed it during the heavy rain and flood.

Later, although he did not see Li Yu use it in the Western Alliance, he could imagine how one potion could destroy a city, such immense power!

Moreover, the one in use now is an evolved version of the Zombie Attraction Potion.

The attraction it has for zombies must be even stronger.

Regarding the production of the enhanced version of the Zombie Attraction Potion, very few people at the Big Camphor Tree Base were aware.

Its production is extremely complex, with a long production cycle and not a high success rate. The main technology is controlled by two individuals, Ma Di and Bai Jie, with each possessing half of the production technology.

More crucially, Li Yu has strict control over the raw materials used for the enhanced version of the Zombie Attraction Potion.

Part of the raw materials for the potion is extracted from trace elements within zombie brains.

For Ma Di and Bai Jie who are stationed at the base, aside from conducting research experiments on the zombies confined in the research room, they have little opportunity to encounter other zombies.

Bai Jie is loyal to Li Yu both physically and mentally, so Li Yu has always entrusted her with the entire research room.

Ever since Li Yu witnessed the power of the enhanced Zombie Attraction Potion in the Western Alliance, he ordered Bai Jie and Ma Di to stop researching and experimenting with this drug, prohibiting its production without permission.

However, later, during the extermination of the Motorcycle Gang, Bai Jie and others were allowed to produce three more doses, plus one stored in a hidden compartment in the basement of a villa area.

Currently, the Big Camphor Tree Base possesses four doses of the enhanced Zombie Attraction Potion.

This is not much different from having four nuclear bombs before the apocalypse.

These four enhanced version Zombie Attraction Potions require a helicopter for long-range deployment.

Without a helicopter, they could only risk getting close to the enemy and deploy it using a drone.

After all, drones have a flight range of only five kilometers.

The Zombie Attraction Potion is a matter of great importance.

Li Yu must return to retrieve it, as only he knows where it’s stored.

Moreover, Li Yu doesn’t dare let anyone else retrieve it.

Therefore, he must personally make a trip back.

Third Uncle was stunned for a moment, then looked at Li Yu and said: ”You are indeed ruthless!”

Li Yu showed a gentle smile and said, ”It’s all for the protection of our own people; we have no choice.”

Third Uncle used to worry that Li Yu might be bloodthirsty, but later realized that Li Yu was actually very calm.

Now, seeing Li Yu smile and say he had no choice, Third Uncle was somewhat speechless. He then pointed downstairs at Zhang Rufen and others and asked:

”What do you plan to do with them?”

Li Yu looked at Zhang Rufen and others downstairs, hesitated for a moment, and said: ”If it is confirmed that what they said is true,

and they have some relationship with us, let’s see if they have any skills or abilities. If they have, then they can return to the Big Camphor Tree Base with us and become cooperative personnel.

If they don’t have any skills, let them go and fend for themselves.”

Third Uncle slightly nodded upon hearing this.

Time passed minute by minute.

During this period, Zhang Rufen and others wanted to handle personal hygiene but were prevented by Old Qin, who told them to find a way to deal with it on site, as they were not allowed to leave the circle.

According to Li Yu’s experience from watching many films and TV shows, people who are bound usually attempt to escape or resist while relieving themselves.

Perhaps for humane reasons, there’s a bit of compromise.

But in the apocalypse, there is no room for humanity, especially for someone like Li Yu who is excessively cautious; he will not allow anyone to leave the visible range before confirming it’s safe.

Old Qin is very experienced too, having seen many life-and-death situations; he does not mind watching someone defecate.

What he minds is not completing his responsibilities. At that moment, only he was watching, but he could’ve had Luo send someone over to help him. He thought it would be cumbersome, though.

....

Nonetheless, Zhang Rufen and his companions were eating very little, so they had little output, which wasn’t much of a problem.

Very soon.

The sky began to darken.

The sun tilted to the west, and Li Yu, watching the fiery clouds, felt a mild anxiety growing in his heart.

Uncle Jackal and his team had been gone for almost six hours.

Looking at the time now, it was already 5:45 PM; in half an hour, it would be dark.

Fortunately, being in Gui Province during summer, the sky darkens more slowly; otherwise, the Jackals wouldn’t have made it back.

.....

Time flowed slowly.

At 6:10 PM, the sky became slightly gray, and Li Yu and Third Uncle, atop the building, turned on a high-beam spotlight, shining it directly into the sky.

Once the sky darkens, the view from high altitude becomes extremely blurry; forest, buildings, all blend into one.

Though things might still be visible from the ground, they’re essentially indiscernible from high up.

Lacking navigation, they relied only on eyesight and maps.

Li Yu was unsure if they were on their way back, possibly nearby but unable to locate their precise position.

In such lighting conditions, Li Yu needed to use the Sunshine Lamp to illuminate the path for the Jackals.

Zzzzzz—

Li Yu suddenly heard a burst of electrical noise from the walkie-talkie.

”Director Li, Captain, is that you with the light?” Jackal’s voice came through the walkie-talkie.

Li Yu excitedly replied: ”Yes, where are you?”

Jackal looked at the darkening sky, with the whole land engulfed in darkness.

The forest beneath the helicopter seemed to transform into looming monstrous figures.

Amidst the endless darkness, a faint light flickered in the distance.

Although weak, it stood out distinctly in the unlit apocalypse.

”We’ll be there in a few minutes, don’t worry,” Jackal responded.

The helicopter flew fast; a few minutes meant a distance of tens of kilometers.

Li Yu quickly ran downstairs and took two lamps from Luo’s side, placing them on the helicopter’s parking spot to illuminate the ground and signal them where to land.

Zhang Rufen and others squatting in the circle watched Li Yu rush out with a confused look, unsure of his intentions.

.....

A few moments later.

A loud humming sound descended from the sky.

It’s Ant and the team.

The helicopter landed steadily on the helipad.

Since the neighboring building used a steel frame structure, surrounded by glass, which mostly shattered during the apocalypse, the winds blew through the structure, allowing Zhang Rufen and others inside to see the helicopter outside.

They witnessed Jackal and Ant stepping off the helicopter, wearing similar clothes to Li Yu and the team.

Soon followed by Lao Yi leading six or seven others off the helicopter, carrying items in their hands.

Inside the building, Zhang Rufen and the others craned their necks.

Their eyes were filled with disbelief!

Was this really the apocalypse? Is this a dream??

A helicopter??

Does this make any sense?

Liu Cunyi’s eyes widened, mouth slightly open, murmuring: ”Is this real? Am I seeing things?”
