Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

The next day.

Li Yu woke up and, lifting his head, saw Yang Tianlong lying not far away. He rubbed his neck; the way he’d lain down yesterday was a bit off, and he’d ended up with a stiff neck.

He rubbed his face and checked the time on his watch.

Six in the morning, the whole cave still completely quiet.

Li Yu picked up the gun placed beside him, then packed up his sleeping bag and stuffed it into his backpack, drinking water as he walked toward the cave entrance.

At the mouth of the cave, Xiao Ding was on duty. Seeing Li Yu, he greeted him.

Li Yu gave a slight nod, lifted his head, and saw the red sun at the horizon poking its head out from between the mountains.

The woods around were silent, as if nothing had happened yesterday, with only the marks where the heavy artillery had been set up left behind.

Li Yu went back into the cave to check around and found that all the munitions had already been loaded onto the vehicles, just waiting to head back to the base today.

Li Yu took a tube of Vitamin effervescent tablets from his backpack and dropped one into his bottle; the tablet sank into the water and began fizzing nonstop.

He then took out some rations, sat on that cut-off slab of steel at the cave entrance, gnawing as he watched the sunrise.

Time flowed by slowly.

Soon.

Six thirty.

Third Uncle and Old Qin came out of the cave as well.

Old Qin and Ant were carrying a large crate between them.

”What’s this?” Li Yu looked at the crate and asked in confusion.

”Explosives. We’ll use them to blow the road later. Let’s go early and get back early.” Third Uncle replied.

”Alright, then let’s move.” Li Yu didn’t waste words. He stood up, grabbed his gun, and headed toward the helicopter.

After just a few steps, Li Yu suddenly turned his head and said to Xiao Ding, who was on duty at the cave entrance, ”When you see Luo and the others later, remember to tell them we’ve gone out to blow the road.”

”Also, stick to the plan. You can set off at seven, no need to wait for us to come back.”

”Got it, Director Li.” Xiao Ding answered earnestly.

”Mm.” Li Yu nodded, then boarded the helicopter together with Third Uncle and the others.

They’d already worked out the plan in last night’s meeting.

Li Yu and Third Uncle’s group would go blow three routes. The others didn’t need to wait for them; once it was time, they’d head straight back to Big Camphor Tree Base.

After all, Li Yu’s group had the speed advantage of the helicopter.

Even if Luo’s group left first, Li Yu and the others could still catch up with them even if they were a few hours behind.

.....

On this run, besides Li Yu and Third Uncle, that teammate of Third Uncle’s went along as well.

Since Jackals was the demolition expert, he would be in charge of the blasting work later, so this time Ant took the controls of the helicopter.

Whup-whup-whup—

The helicopter lifted off, flying straight toward the first blast point they’d agreed on yesterday.

There were only two options for this middle route, mainly because the elevated bridge in the middle was a perfect demolition point, so there was only one backup.

The helicopter was very fast; in just a few minutes they were over the road they’d shelled with the heavy guns yesterday.

Looking down from the helicopter at the scene below—now that it was daytime, the view was much clearer—Li Yu couldn’t help clicking his tongue, once again shocked by the power of the heavy artillery.

Last night’s explosions had triggered a wildfire; one whole mountain had been burned bare. If the flames hadn’t been stopped by a little creek in the ravine, the fire probably would’ve spread even farther.

The helicopter kept going, and about fifteen minutes later—

They reached the airspace above the interchange.

The interchange had four vertical and four horizontal directions, levels crisscrossing, layer upon layer of roadway, looking quite imposing.

Ant made a downward gesture to Third Uncle behind him, and Third Uncle nodded.

Ant then guided the helicopter lower, bringing it down steadily beside the massive interchange.

The helicopter set down beneath one of the huge bridge piers, with a dozen or so scrapped vehicles nearby.

Farther off there was a row of factory buildings, their roofs gone, leaving only broken walls and ruins.

Li Yu opened the cabin door and jumped down, with Third Uncle right behind him.

Old Qin and Jackals opened that crate in the helicopter and took out some explosives, then packed them into bags.

Old Qin and Jackals handed the bags to Li Yu and Third Uncle, who took them.

Then Old Qin and Jackals also got off the helicopter. Third Uncle said to Ant, ”Ant, you stay here.”

”Alright.”

Li Yu and Third Uncle carried the bags, while Jackals and Old Qin held their rifles, one in front and one behind, heading toward the interchange.

According to their plan, since they were going to blow the road to the north anyway, they might as well take out this entire interchange.

There are a lot of tricks to blasting, and Jackals happened to be an expert in this field.

To blow an interchange like this, the best approach was to take out a few of the load-bearing piers below. That way they’d get twice the result for half the effort.

Under the interchange, it was rather gloomy.

The dense web of roadways overhead blocked out most of the light from the sky.

There were some vehicles below as well. Staying alert, they scanned their surroundings as they moved deeper in.

”Here, and here, plant charges in both spots.” Jackals looked around and pointed at two of the central load-bearing pillars.

Third Uncle pulled open the zipper of the bag, gesturing for him to handle it himself.

Jackals slung his rifle over his back, grabbed a few bundles of explosives from inside, and walked over to the load-bearing pillar.

Standing under the column, Jackals craned his neck to study the bridge structure, then set the explosives at the most suitable point.

Once that was done, they continued carrying explosives, weaving back and forth among the load-bearing columns under the interchange.
