Chapter 400: Is It Possible You Chose the Wrong Path?

”A type-disadvantage battle?”

Seeing Ash’s choice, everyone revealed looks of shock.

Brock, who had been a little worried, perked up immediately upon seeing the two Pokemon Ash sent out. ”Mudkip, Lombre, use Water Gun together!”

”Solrock, use Psychic to block it! Lunatone, use Moonblast to attack Mudkip.”

The Water Gun launched by Mudkip and Lombre, just as it was about to hit, was forcibly redirected by the Telekinesis released by Solrock, and Lunatone took the opportunity to unleash Moonblast, striking Mudkip.

”Moonblast is a Psychic-type move, and Mudkip is a Water-type Pokemon, so the damage from a Psychic-type move shouldn’t be very high...” Jimmy muttered to himself, lacking confidence.

Serena, seeing this, shook her head and sighed to herself.

Brock looked at the hit Mudkip and asked, ”Mudkip, are you okay?”

”Helo!”

Mudkip performed a kip-up and got back on its feet.

”Lombre, use Razor Leaf to cover! Mudkip, use Rock Smash on Lunatone!”

”Want to fight up close? I won’t give you the chance, Brock.” Ash smiled. ”Solrock, use Stone Edge on Mudkip! Lunatone, use Reflect to pin down Lombre.”

Once Lunatone set up Reflect, the power of Lombre’s Razor Leaf was greatly reduced, while Mudkip, under the barrage of Solrock’s Stone Edge, couldn’t find any opportunity to get close, and it was even grazed a few times by the sharp stones fired by Solrock.

As the teaching battle between the two became more intense, Jimmy, acting as the referee, became completely flustered.

Serena, who had witnessed everything from start to finish, was not very satisfied with Jimmy’s performance.

After the practical training session, Serena warmly hosted Ash’s group and asked them to stay for the night.

Reflecting on what she saw and heard today, May exclaimed, ”Becoming a Pokemon battle referee really isn’t a simple thing!”

”Indeed, to become a Pokemon battle referee, you not only need to memorize Pokemon moves and abilities, but you also need strong insight,” Ash said.

”Come to think of it, this referee academy has strong teaching capabilities; many Pokemon League referees graduated from this academy.”

”Pokemon League referee?”

May looked at Brock in Telekinesis and asked, ”Are the requirements very high?”

”Of course. Becoming a League referee is the highest honor in the Pokemon referee industry.”

”Pika Pika.”

At this moment, Pikachu looked out the window and called out.

The group curiously gathered at the window, only to see Jimmy and his three Pokemon huddled together with dejected expressions.

The sight of the one human and three Pokemon gave off a lonely feeling.

”Mr. Jimmy, what are you doing here?”

The group walked up behind Jimmy.

”Ah? Nothing, I...”

Jimmy was so nervous he didn’t know how to explain.

”Mr. Jimmy, are you still blaming yourself for being lectured by Serena today?” Ash asked.

”N-no, my performance today was indeed very poor, so I am reviewing it with Wartortle and the others.”

”Is that so? But the bond between Wartortle and the others and you, Mr. Jimmy, is really good.”

”Really? Actually, I used to be a Pokemon Trainer too. Back then, I traveled everywhere just like you...”

Jimmy shared his experiences from his journey with Ash and the others.

Before learning about it, Ash didn’t think much of it, but once he did, he had the illusion that the guy was an incredibly lucky person.

Getting lost in a forest and being able to catch an Ivysaur with just a rice ball.

Fishing in a random river and catching a Golden Magikarp right off the bat, then having a middle-aged man who loved Golden Magikarp appear and insist on trading his Charmeleon for the Golden Magikarp.

When passing through Cerulean City, it happened that Misty was not at the Gym, so he accepted Sakura’s request to clean the pool at the Cerulean Gym and directly received the Cerulean Gym Badge.

Finally, because he took a nap in an untethered boat, he drifted with the current to this island and then confusedly joined this academy.

”Mr. Jimmy, I didn’t expect your journey to be so exciting,” May said.

”Not really. Don’t laugh at me, but actually, since I started traveling, I haven’t won a single Pokemon battle, and I’m not learning to be a referee very well here either. Sometimes I really feel like I’m a useless waste who can’t do anything right...”

Jimmy only felt that his life was dark, as if the heavens were always against him, unable to do anything right.

”Mr. Jimmy, is there a possibility that the path you chose is wrong, which is why you’ve suffered so many setbacks along the way? I can tell that you really like Pokemon, and your kindness and gentleness are the reasons why Wartortle and the others follow you. Perhaps you could try the professions of Pokemon Breeder or Pokemon Doctor,” Ash advised.

”Jimmy, Ash is absolutely right. Your gentle and easygoing personality isn’t suited for being a Trainer, nor is it suited for being a referee. Everyone has their own unique talents; find the field you are good at and take root there, and perhaps you will have different rewards. Destiny is something you have to forge yourself, not just go with the flow, and certainly not follow in others’ footsteps on their path.”

At this moment, Serena also appeared. She had actually wanted to say these words for a long time, but she just hadn’t found the right opportunity.

”Think about it carefully. The road of life is still long, and there is plenty of time for trial and error.”

Ash knew that this kind of life choice required careful consideration before making a decision.

The next day.

Before Ash and the others could set off for the pier on the other side of the island, Jimmy came to say goodbye with his luggage on his back.

”Ash, thank you for your guidance. I have decided to try the paths of Pokemon Breeder and Pokemon Doctor,” Jimmy said, bowing.

”It’s good that you’ve decided. Good luck!” Ash said with a smile.

After saying goodbye to Jimmy, Ash’s group boarded a boat and left Bomba Island.

Before arriving at the next island, the group encountered an ’old acquaintance’ on the sea.

Hmm... it was the Spoink they had met before.

This guy was incredibly bold, daring to go out to sea alone by stepping on a piece of driftwood.

However, after a wave crashed over, the Spoink immediately panicked; the pearl on its head was missing again.

It was fine to look for it in the forest before, but this time the pearl sank directly into the sea, and the difficulty of finding it was maxed out.

Without the pearl, the Spoink started looking for all sorts of things to replace it.

This caused quite a few funny incidents, and in the end, Ash and the others got another pearl from a certain Clamperl on the next island to replace it.

It is worth mentioning that the pearl on Spoink’s head is actually a large pink pearl produced by Clamperl.
