Chapter 371: Visiting Professor Birch’s Laboratory, the Sacrificed Goh

May looked at Latias, who was practically glued to Ash’s back, and asked, ”Ash, are you really going to let Latias keep this appearance while traveling with us?”

It wasn’t that May didn’t like Latias, but because Latias had mimicked Bianca’s appearance, which made her feel very uncomfortable.

”There’s no other way. Latias doesn’t want to go back into her Poké Ball right now, and letting her use her own form is just too eye-catching.”

Ash had no choice; Latias had just latched onto him.

Moreover, after Latias woke up from her nap, she had forgotten Bianca’s instructions and was still used to’stealing’ Bianca’s skin.

After clearing the Petalburg Gym, Ash’s group said goodbye to Norman and his wife and continued their journey, with their next destination being the Viridian Gym in Viridian City.

Before that, the group planned to head to the Professor Birch’s Laboratory to visit Professor Birch.

”It’s been a long time. I wonder how Professor Birch is doing,” Ash said.

May said, ”Maybe he’s still the same old self today, conducting field research in some mountainous area.”

Just as they were talking, a large jeep suddenly flew over their heads.

The large jeep landed behind them, pulled off a cool drift, and stopped.

Professor Birch rested one hand on the steering wheel and greeted Ash and the others, ”Hi, long time no see! How did you all end up here?”

Ash shook the dust off his body and said, ”Professor Birch, we just came from Petalburg City. We’re planning to go to Viridian City to take a boat at the port, and we happened to pass by the institute, so we thought we’d come and visit you.”

”I see,” Professor Birch said with a sudden realization.

”By the way, Professor Birch, where are you in such a rush to go?”

”I’m just about to head to the port to pick up Oak.”

”Oak?” May immediately asked, ”Then did my little brother Max come back with him?”

Professor Birch shook his head, ”Not really. Only Oak is visiting this time. Max is doing quite well at Professor Oaks Laboratory.”

”I think that guy is so happy he’s forgotten about home,” May sighed.

”Hahaha, May, don’t say that. Max’s passion for Pokemon is no less than yours!” Professor Birch comforted her with a laugh.

”Alright, no more chatting. I was too engrossed in field research and lost track of time. I was just planning to take a shortcut...”

”Huh?”

Hearing such unreliable words, Ash immediately gave up the idea of riding in his car.

After riding with him once last time, he had sworn never to ride in Professor Birch’s car again. There was no other reason than the fact that the other party never took the normal path when driving, and he also didn’t know what brakes were.

After Professor Birch drove off to the port alone, Ash’s group soon arrived at the institute.

Upon arriving at the institute, Ash’s group saw Professor Birch’s assistant walking three starter Pokémon from the Hoenn region.

Seeing the familiar figures, May remembered her experience of coming to receive her first Pokémon. Hmm... although the process wasn’t very good, Mudkip was indeed very effective against her.

Not long after they arrived, Ash sensed a very familiar Aura approaching and greeted, ”Oak!”

Oak took off his cowboy hat and was very surprised to see Ash and the others, ”Oh, Ash, Brock, May, you’re here too?”

”Oak, long time no see!” May and the others greeted him immediately.

Professor Birch’s assistant didn’t see Professor Birch and asked, ”Oak, didn’t Professor Birch come back with you?”

Oak shook his head, ”I hitched a ride with a local. Could that guy, Professor Birch, still be hiding out in the wild?”

May asked in confusion, ”But we just met Professor Birch earlier. He said he was going to the port to pick you up, Oak.”

”Professor Birch probably missed you. Anyway, let’s just call Professor Birch and let him know that Oak has already arrived at the institute,” Brock suggested.

Professor Birch’s assistant heard this and immediately took out his phone to call Professor Birch.

Oak was clearly entrusted by Professor Birch this time and had also brought three Kanto starter Pokémon along for the visit.

May looked at the Kanto starter Pokémon series and was quickly captivated by Bulbasaur’s simple, honest demeanor.

Oak seemed to remember something and said to Ash, ”By the way, Ash, Gary asked me to thank you. The research direction you provided him is very useful.”

Upon hearing this, Ash was a bit surprised, ”Doctor, does that mean Gary has already figured out the key to Magmortar’s evolution?”

”Yes, not only Magmortar, but Electivire was also deduced by that child through analogy. He is currently writing a related paper at the institute and will publish it in a few days. Ash, do you want to evolve your Electabuzz?”

”Electabuzz? No rush for now; its potential hasn’t been fully tapped yet.”

Ash decisively refused. The key to Electivire’s evolution is an Electirizer, and this thing also depends on quality. He could directly purchase a top-tier Electirizer through the system, so he didn’t care for a newly created item of unknown quality.

”That’s fine too. Electabuzz’s potential is indeed still great. But Ash, who is this young lady...”

Oak noticed Latias—in Bianca form.

Ash’s team had inexplicably gained an extra person, which really left him very confused.

”Doctor, she is Latias.”

”Latias?”

Oak always felt this name sounded familiar. After thinking for a few seconds, he looked at Ash in shock, ”Ash, are you saying that she is Latias, one of the guardian deities of the Water Metropolis?!”

Looking at the wide-eyed Oak, Ash said helplessly, ”Uh... Doctor, actually, you don’t have to be like this. It’s not like you haven’t seen Legendary Pokémon before.”

”That may be so, but you brat are being a bit unkind. Last time you teleported such a large Gulpin, it caused my institute to be demolished. Shouldn’t you compensate me a little?”

Reminded by Ash, Oak also remembered. Only Ash himself could persuade the Legendary Pokémon he had captured, so...

Ash scratched his head, feeling a bit guilty, ”Uh... that Gulpin was a misunderstanding. And didn’t you tell me to capture some material for you, Doctor? Wasn’t that large Gulpin just right for that?”

”I don’t care. In any case, you must at least get me some Legendary Pokémon research data.”

Oak put on an expression that showed he had Ash cornered.

”Uh...”

Regarding Oak’s request, Ash was a bit troubled for a moment. After all, Latias had just woken up not long ago, and it wouldn’t be good to let her be tested back and forth by those instruments.

After thinking it over, Ash finally decided to sacrifice Goh.

After all, Latias is a girl, so it wouldn’t hurt for Goh to make a sacrifice.

Under the combined efforts of Oak and Professor Birch, Goh was forced to undergo a very thorough medical examination from the inside out.

The two old geezers took the data detected by the instruments and buried their heads in research without a word, leaving Ash and the others with no choice but to leave dejectedly.

Of course, the one who most wanted to leave the sad place that was the Professor Birch’s Laboratory was undoubtedly Goh.

He had been traumatized by that round of check-ups.
