Chapter 370: Father-Daughter Duel (Part 2)

May was slightly stunned when she saw Chansey; she knew her father had a Chansey, but she had never thought that a Chansey could also battle.

Just as May was stunned, Norman made his move. ”Chansey, use Skill Swap!”

Skill Swap utilizes Psychic power to exchange one’s own ability with the opponent’s.

Being able to swap for a powerful ability during a battle can often determine the outcome.

May’s Blaziken had the Blaze ability, while Chansey had Natural Cure. Although Chansey wasn’t suited for Blaze, swapping it meant Blaziken could no longer benefit from the Blaze boost, effectively weakening Blaziken’s output.

”Blaziken, use Double Kick!”

”Chansey, grab it.”

Blaziken charged at Chansey, hoping to replicate the maneuver used against Slakoth, but Chansey was a whole level higher; it seized the opportunity and grabbed Blaziken’s kicking right leg.

With her natural super strength, Chansey grabbed Blaziken, swung it around, and slammed it into the ground twice.

By the time Chansey let go, Blaziken had already been slammed unconscious.

”Blaziken... how could this be?”

Seeing this result, May was completely stunned.

”Blaziken is unable to battle. Challenger, please send out your next Pokemon!”

”Return, Blaziken.”

May recalled Blaziken into its Poké Ball and then sent out Beautifly.

”Beautifly, use Stun Spore!”

”Chansey, use Double Slap!”

Beautifly flapped its wings, scattering Stun Spore all around, but Chansey wasn’t afraid at all. It waved its hands rapidly to create an air current, tore through the spores, jumped up, and unleashed a flurry of slaps.

The damage from Double Slap wasn’t high, but it was extremely insulting, and Beautifly became instantly furious.

”Beautifly, use Toxic!”

”Chansey, use Light Screen!”

Beautifly spat a purple thread at Chansey. The thread moved at extreme speed, and before Chansey could set up its Light Screen, the thread had already entangled its body.

Once the Toxic status was applied, Chansey’s HP immediately dropped by a small amount.

”Beautifly, well done. Now, use Aerial Ace!”

”Chansey, use Dazzling Gleam!”

Beautifly circled twice in the air and suddenly launched an Impact from behind Chansey. Just as Beautifly was about to hit it, Chansey unleashed a max-power Dazzling Gleam right in its face.

Beautifly was instantly sent flying and crashed into the wall nearby.

”Beautifly is unable to battle...”

Ash frowned slightly. ”Still too impatient!”

According to Ash’s own expectations, Blaziken and Beautifly shouldn’t have been knocked out so early. They had retreated without even forcing out Chansey’s Soft-Boiled move, which really shouldn’t have happened!

Blaziken had the Blaze ability, not Speed Boost, so it didn’t matter if it was swapped. Continuing to wear it down with Fire-type moves was acceptable. Chansey had great natural strength, so getting caught in close combat was a death sentence.

Relying on a Tyranitar to save the day at the end was an incredibly difficult task.

Now that things had come to this, May could only do her best. ”I’m counting on you, Tyranitar!”

”Tyran-!”

Finally entering the fray, Tyranitar roared excitedly toward the sky.

”Eh, Tyranitar?!”

Seeing May quietly acquire a Tyranitar, Norman was both excited and dumbfounded.

If May had sent out a Pupitar, he could have understood it as something she caught after leaving Petalburg City, but this Tyranitar was completely unreasonable.

This was a Quasi-Legendary from the neighboring Johto region. Although it didn’t develop as slowly as other Dragon-type Quasi-Legendarys, a Quasi-Legendary was still a Quasi-Legendary, and it was certainly not something that could be raised to its final form in just two or three months.

”Tyranitar, use Sandstorm!”

Tyranitar kicked up a Sandstorm, enveloping itself.

Under Tyranitar’s control, the sand and dust lashed out at Chansey.

”Chansey, use Earthquake!”

Chansey jumped up suddenly and slammed heavily onto the ground. The ground trembled, and shockwaves spread toward Tyranitar.

”Tyranitar, we’ll use Earthquake too!”

Two Earthquake shockwaves from different directions collided, and a crack about two meters long was instantly shaken into the center of the battlefield.

”Chansey, use Double-Edge!”

”Tyranitar, use Rock Slide repeatedly!”

Chansey slammed into Tyranitar like a cannonball, while Tyranitar took a heavy step, causing massive rocks to emerge from the ground and block Chansey’s path.

Chansey’s offensive was fierce, smashing through three giant rocks before being forced to a stop.

Seeing the injuries on Chansey from hitting the rocks, Norman shouted, ”Chansey, Soft-Boiled.”

Chansey healed itself significantly, instantly recovering to its peak condition.

”What?!” May was shocked.

What was the meaning of this?

Wasn’t it agreed that Gym Leaders would go easy on challengers?

”May, let me see what your true level is.”

Norman had actually acknowledged May’s level when she sent out Blaziken; it was just the Tyranitar that followed that truly puzzled him.

This time, May didn’t dare to be careless. ”Tyranitar, Dark Pulse!”

”Chansey, use Fire Blast!”

Chansey’s Fire Blast was launched later but arrived first, meeting Tyranitar’s Dark Pulse. The Impact generated by the collision of the two moves forced both Pokemon to take several steps back.

”Chansey, follow up with Focus Punch!”

Chansey drew a deep breath and charged at Tyranitar.

”Tyranitar, don’t be afraid, use Heavy Slam!”

Hearing this, Tyranitar strode forward to meet it.

Tyranitar’s weight of over 400 pounds was much heavier than Chansey’s roughly 70 pounds, so the power of Heavy Slam was immense.

Chansey’s Focus Punch met Tyranitar’s Heavy Slam; after less than three seconds of stalemate, Chansey was sent flying.

Tyranitar was also hit hard by the punch, its eyes dazed for a moment, and it nearly collapsed to the ground.

Just then, Kinji raised his flag and announced, ”Chansey is unable to battle. Tyranitar wins. Therefore, the winner is the challenger, May!”

”I won... Dad?!”

May couldn’t believe her ears.

”May, it seems you are already a qualified Pokemon Trainer.”

May had only been traveling for a few months and already possessed this level of strength, which made Norman feel incredibly gratified.

”Here, this is the Balance Badge, the symbol of clearing the Gym!”
