Chapter 394: The Visitor from the Sky (2)

Aaron looked at Ash across the field and exclaimed, ”Oh, I didn’t expect we’d meet so soon!”

”Yeah, I didn’t expect it to be this fast either.”

Ash smiled. He hadn’t expected to run into the duo of Aaron and Jiang Tai just like in the original story.

However, this time he wasn’t carrying any dead weight; May’s strength had been bolstered by him.

”Hello, May! If I’d known you were participating in the tag battle, I would’ve teamed up with you!” Jiang Tai called out.

”Uh...”

May looked speechless.

The referee announced, ”In this tag battle, each Trainer will release one Pokémon to fight in a team-based format. Now, will the four Trainers please send out your Pokémon!”

”Jiang Tai, let’s go!” Aaron shouted. The two of them threw out their Pokémon in perfect sync.

[Pokémon: Blaziken (Aaron)] [Type: Fire + Fighting] [Gender: Male] [Level: Gym Advanced] [Ability: Blaze (Increases the power of Fire-type moves when HP is low)] [Potential: Elite] [Moves: Blaze Kick, Double Kick, Flamethrower...]

[Pokémon: Blastoise (Jiang Tai)] [Type: Water] [Gender: Male] [Level: Gym Advanced] [Ability: Torrent (Increases the power of Water-type moves when HP is low)] [Potential: Elite] [Moves: Water Gun, Hydro Pump, Water Pulse, Bite...]

Ash said, ”May, use Blaziken. I’ll use Grovyle.”

”Okay!” May released her Blaziken, and Ash released Grovyle, following his plan to gain experience.

”Aaron, May’s Blaziken is just as high-level as yours!” Jiang Tai teased.

Aaron replied testily, ”Damn, that level is clearly higher than mine! Ash’s strength shouldn’t be underestimated either. However, we have the type advantage this time. You hold off the opposing Blaziken, and I’ll help you once I finish off Grovyle.”

”No problem!” Jiang Tai’s expression turned serious.

Seeing both sides ready, the referee announced, ”The tag battle begins now!”

”Blaziken, let’s go! Use Blaze Kick!” Aaron initiated the attack. Jiang Tai followed up, ”Blastoise, don’t fall behind! Use Water Gun!”

”Blaziken, use Thunder Punch on the opposing Blaziken!” May shouted. Ash added, ”Grovyle, use Leaf Blade!”

Aaron’s Blaziken lunged toward Grovyle with a powerful kick, but May’s Blaziken flashed in front of Grovyle, throwing a Thunder Punch to meet it.

Just as Blastoise’s Water Gun followed up, Grovyle swung the Leaf Blade on its arm, splitting the water stream, and took the opportunity to kick Aaron’s Blaziken.

Aaron’s Blaziken was lucky to have reacted quickly; otherwise, it would have taken a Leaf Blade right to the chest.

Aaron looked grave. ”As expected of traveling partners; your coordination is truly excellent!”

”Their coordination is indeed good, but we aren’t any worse. Aaron, let’s focus fire on one of them and end this quickly!” Jiang Tai suggested.

”Fine, then let’s take down May’s Blaziken first!”

”Uh... why not Ash’s Grovyle?”

”Duh, your Blastoise doesn’t have a type advantage against Grovyle, what’s the point?”

”But your Blaziken has the advantage!” Jiang Tai retorted unconvinced.

Aaron: ”...”

”Fine, have it your way. Let’s just win first!” Jiang Tai said.

”Blastoise, use Bubble to disrupt their vision.”

”Blaziken, use Flamethrower!”

Blastoise sprayed a massive amount of colorful bubbles, blocking Ash and May’s line of sight. Aaron’s Blaziken was busy looking for an opening in May’s Blaziken’s defense to land a clean hit.

”Ash, I can’t see where Aaron’s Blaziken is. What should I do?” May said, sounding a bit anxious.

A faint blue light lit up in Ash’s eyes. ”It’s at your Blaziken’s three o’clock position. I’ll clear the bubbles; you lead the attack.”

”Grovyle, use Bullet Seed to clear the bubbles!” May followed up, ”Blaziken, three o’clock direction, use Fire Blast!”

Grovyle opened its mouth and fired a barrage of small light bullets, popping the bubble wall at a rate visible to the naked eye.

Aaron, thinking he’d found an opportunity, said, ”Blaziken, change targets! Use Flamethrower!”

”Damn, a diversion, huh? Blastoise, use Hydro Pump!” Jiang Tai also chimed in.

But before either of their attacks could be launched, May’s fatal Fire Blast came slamming into their faces.

With a loud ”boom,” Aaron’s Blaziken was hit dead-on by the Fire Blast. It was sent flying, crashing into the battle arena wall, looking pained.

”Blastoise?!” Blastoise was stunned to see its teammate blasted away.

Ash saw the opening and shouted, ”Grovyle, use Leaf Storm!”

Grovyle’s move initiation was incredibly fast; just as Blastoise regained its senses, it was hit in the face by the Leaf Storm.

Jiang Tai hurriedly ordered, ”Blastoise, pull into your shell and use Rapid Spin!”

Seeing the situation was dire, Aaron asked, ”Blaziken, can you still fight?” ”Bla!” Hearing this, his Blaziken gritted its teeth and pulled itself back up.

Although the damage from Fire Blast was high, Blaziken was a Fire-type itself, giving it high resistance to Fire-type moves. Plus, May hadn’t ordered an all-out attack, so it hadn’t been knocked out.

”Alright, Blaziken, use one last Flame Vortex!” ”Blaziken, use Flame Charge to block it.”

The Flame Vortex whistled toward Grovyle. Just as it was about to hit, May’s Blaziken used Flame Charge to block the Flame Vortex and charged forward, grabbing Aaron’s Blaziken for a slam.

Seeing that May had taken care of her opponent, Ash shouted, ”Grovyle, it’s about time we finished this. Use Energy Ball!”

Grovyle formed an orb and threw it. Before the Blastoise, which was tucked inside its shell, could pop its head out, it was knocked unconscious by the Energy Ball.

”The tag battle has been decided! The red team’s Blaziken and Blastoise are unable to battle. The victory goes to Ash and May’s team!”

Just as the referee finished speaking, Ash’s Grovyle erupted with the light of evolution. Under the gaze of the crowd, it completed its final evolution and became Sceptile.

”It evolved! Contestant Ash’s Grovyle has evolved into Sceptile because of this victory!” The referee didn’t want to miss a single chance for promotion, directly attributing Grovyle’s evolution to the battle.

However, the audience really bought into it; many Trainers stood up and ran to sign up for the battles.

After the battle ended, Ash and May chatted with Aaron and Jiang Tai in the waiting area for a while, waiting for other battle matches.

After the tag battle, Ash and May each fought two more single matches before finally finding Brock and Latias, still feeling like they hadn’t had enough.

”Ash, where are we going next?” May asked.

”Hmm... let’s go find Dr. Lund and ask about the situation.” Playtime was over; it was time to get down to business.

Dr. Lund was a famous Pokémon researcher in Larousse City, so it wasn’t difficult to find him.

Not long after Ash showed his credentials to the staff at Dr. Lund’s research institute, Dr. Lund arrived with his assistant, Ms. Yuko, to welcome him. ”Dr. Ash, welcome!”

”Dr. Lund, please forgive my sudden visit!” Ash said, sounding slightly apologetic. ”These are my companions, May...”

When Ash introduced Latias, he still used the name Bianca. There was no helping it; the temporary pass used that name, and if he said any other name, it would inevitably cause unnecessary trouble.
