Chapter 240: Akiba Contest (Part 1)

Fallarbor Town Pokémon Center.

”Wow, there are so many beautiful big sisters here!”

Brock saw a large number of beauties in the lobby and instantly entered his’sick’ state.

”Looking closely, it seems like everyone is very strong!”

May, originally full of confidence, was immediately shaken upon seeing the contestants in the lobby preparing for the Grand Festival.

Ash comforted her, ”May, relax, you’ll be fine.”

”But... huh?!”

May was about to speak when she was distracted by a female Trainer and her Pokemon meditating on a chair nearby.

”Ash, that Pokemon... it’s floating in the air!”

”That’s Medicham, it’s using Calm Mind!” Ash explained.

”Medicham?”

May took out her Pokemon Pokedex to scan it.

The next second, all the light objects in the lobby began to float.

Just as everyone was panicking and confused, the girl meditating on the chair whispered, ”Medicham!”

”Cham~”

Medicham was startled and immediately broke out of its Calm Mind state, and the effect of the Telekinesis move suddenly ceased.

”Everyone, I am very sorry, my Pokemon used Telekinesis without me realizing it!”

The girl stood up and apologized to everyone.

Upon seeing the girl’s face, Brock instantly turned into a gust of wind, arrived in front of the girl, and knelt on one knee, ”No... such a powerful Telekinesis move, why would it need to be strengthened! From what I can see...”

Even Jirachi, who had just joined the team, felt that Brock’s behavior was problematic, so Jirachi rewarded Brock with a Teleport.

”Sorry, that guy Brock is just like this; he gets’sick’ whenever he sees a pretty girl!” May stepped forward to explain.

”Pretty? Are you talking about me?” The girl looked at May with Telekinesis.

”Yeah.”

As soon as May finished speaking, the girl revealed a strange expression and laughed wildly, ”Ahahaha... how is that possible? Where am I pretty? You really know how to talk!”

After some flailing, the girl accidentally pushed May away.

Seeing this, Ash could only ask Jirachi to catch May with Telekinesis.

There were too many people in the Pokémon Center, so it was inconvenient for him to use his own Psychic powers.

After some conversation, Ash and the others learned that the girl’s name was Grace, and she was also a Coordinator who had come to participate in the Akiba Contest, and she was an expert who had already obtained three Ribbon badges.

”Eh! Mr. Ash, you aren’t participating in this contest?”

Grace also recognized Ash’s identity.

”Yeah, I plan to take a break to prepare for the Fuyan Gym.” Ash explained.

”That’s a pity, I thought I could challenge Mr. Ash in this contest!”

”Definitely next time.”

Ash wouldn’t mind a normal battle, but a battle in the style of a Grand Festival was a different story.

Although she couldn’t battle Ash, Grace still showed May the combo moves of her Medicham.

After parting ways, Ash and the others ran into someone who could barely be considered an acquaintance—Drew.

Having experienced his previous defeat, Drew’s arrogant personality had improved somewhat.

But upon learning that Ash didn’t intend to participate in the competition, he also entered a state of withdrawal.

He had hoped to get revenge on May this time and then have an exciting match with Ash, but he hadn’t expected it to be just his own wishful thinking!

However, after seeing Drew, May’s self-confidence suffered another blow.

There was no other reason; Drew had won another Ribbon badge during this time, bringing his total to three just like Grace, while May had yet to achieve her first breakthrough.

...

The next day, morning.

The Akiba Contest was held grandly.

The number of Trainers participating in this Akiba Contest was unusually high, but unlike previous Grand Festivals, only the top four would advance to the second round in the first screening of the Akiba Contest.

Therefore, the competition was quite intense, and many Trainers were already doing their final warm-ups outside the venue early in the morning.

Ash and Brock arrived at the spectator seats early to cheer for May.

As the contest Host, Vivian, stood on the stage, ”The Akiba Contest of the Pokémon Contest is finally about to begin...”

The performances for the first screening went one after another, and soon it was their acquaintance Drew’s turn.

With Roselia’s Petal Dance performance, Drew scored 29.6 points.

When it was Grace and her Medicham’s turn, Medicham’s combo move scored 29.5.

May, having learned from her experience in the last contest and with Ash’s guidance, showed great improvement in her first screening performance and finally scored 28.5 points.

The last to appear in the first screening was Jessie, who had signed up at the last minute.

With the Helping Hand of James and Wobbuffet, Jessie descended from the sky on a wire, and this entrance won her high praise from the judges.

Afterward, Dustox’s performance, with the Assist of Meowth, created colorful scales and a Hurricane, once again conquering the judges and successfully achieving the highest score of 29.7 points in the first screening.

After the first screening ended, the four people who advanced to the second round were announced in less than three minutes.

These four were: Jessie, Drew, Grace, and May.

After the drawing for the second round, May drew the best possible match, with Jessie, the weakest among them, as her opponent.

”It’s showtime!”

When Jessie threw out Dustox, Dustox appeared with its own scale special effects.

May also sent out her competing Pokémon: ”Beautifly, take the stage!”

”The first match is a battle between Beautifly and Dustox!” Brock exclaimed.
