Chapter 336: The Seven-Night Wishing Star (4)

Butler excitedly placed Ash’s Jirachi into the machine, then carefully placed the fragment containing Groudon’s genes in front of the machine.

Meanwhile, the Absol he had locked in the cage was both anxious and puzzled.

It could clearly feel that the Jirachi caught by the human in front of it was not the one it had just seen.

”Alright, Jirachi, open your True Eye, and then gather the comet’s energy from the sky,” Butler commanded.

Ash’s Jirachi had also learned how to act from Pikachu; it feigned a very uncomfortable look and responded, ”You are a bad person, I don’t want to!”

”Hmph, refusing a toast only to drink a forfeit. Even if you don’t want to, you have to. Dusclops, use Psybeam!”

As soon as Butler finished speaking, Dusclops reached out and launched the move at Jirachi.

Seeing Dusclops attack Jirachi, Absol couldn’t sit still; it pounded its head against the iron cage.

However, Dusclops’s Psybeam had absolutely no effect on Jirachi.

Even though Jirachi had been staying by Ash’s mother Delia’s side, its own leveling speed was quite fast, and with a Gardevoir teaching it, Jirachi was already at the Elite High level.

A Gym-level Dusclops trying to control an Elite-level Pokemon with Psybeam was simply wishful thinking.

Jirachi was seen controlling the eye on its belly to slowly open, followed by an out-of-control explosion of energy throughout its body.

With a ”boom,” Jirachi blew up Butler’s equipment.

After breaking free, Jirachi used Psychic to get Absol out.

Absol didn’t care about anything else; after hitting Butler with a Dark Pulse, it carried the ”weakened” Jirachi and fled in the direction of Faunce.

Meanwhile, Ash’s group had already been waiting for a long time on the route where Absol was retreating.

Upon seeing Absol appear, Ash stopped it.

Seeing Ash’s group, Jirachi stopped acting; it flew directly back to the top of Ash’s head and asked as if seeking credit, ”Ash, did I act well? That bad guy’s equipment was blown up by me!”

Ash pulled Jirachi down and praised it: ”Like it, really like it, but the main event is coming up next.”

To ensure Butler would spend his life in prison, Ash had given Jirachi a small video recorder. This little gadget was something they had obtained from Devon Corporation last time. Within a certain signal reception range, Ash and the others were like watching a live broadcast, recording everything that had just happened.

Stealing a Patrol Officer’s Pokemon, especially a Legendary Pokemon, and planning to use it for evil deeds—any one of these crimes, taken individually, was enough to land someone in prison for life.

Seeing this scene, Absol’s inner confusion deepened.

”Absol, I’m really sorry about just now. The surrounding area is a lively festival venue with a large crowd, so I couldn’t let Butler do bad things here.”

”Next, I need you to take him to Faunce. We will follow behind you, and I will take good care of the Jirachi you are guarding.”

Ash showed Absol his Aura and the ability bestowed upon him by Ho-Oh to gain Absol’s trust.

After feeling these two legendary powers, Absol finally set its heart at ease and continued to carry Jirachi towards Faunce.

After saying goodbye to Absol, Ash’s group immediately rushed to the magic house stage.

The three of them all put on anxious expressions.

Butler was not in a rush to reveal his true colors; he fabricated a story for Ash’s group about Absol abducting Jirachi, and then even sent away Ash’s group and Dian, heading to Faunce alone.

After Butler left without saying goodbye, Ash’s group found Dian. Ash asked: ”Miss Dian, you must have seen through what kind of person Butler is by now. Do you still intend to continue indulging him?”

”I...” Dian didn’t know how to explain either.

”Miss Dian, if you really want to do what’s best for Mr. Butler, you should stop his plan as soon as possible,” Brock said.

”That’s right, Miss Dian. You should know what Jirachi means to Faunce. If Butler’s plan succeeds, how do you think the Hoenn League will treat him?” May also urged.

Dian pondered for a moment, turned to look at Ash, and asked: ”What do you want me to do?”

Ash pulled out his Patrol Officer identification and said: ”Take us to Faunce to arrest Butler. As long as you are willing, this case will count as you performing a meritorious service, and I will have the Hoenn League exempt you from the crime of colluding with Butler to steal Jirachi.”

Dian’s face turned pale after seeing Ash’s ID. She didn’t expect Ash to be an Alliance Inspector, which was a higher rank than a single-region Alliance Inspector.

”I understand. However, it is too far from here to Faunce. Butler left first, and we might not be able to catch up with him.”

Based on Dian’s understanding of Butler, he definitely had a backup plan. Since Butler had already left, she couldn’t guarantee they would arrive in time.

”Miss Dian, you can rest assured about that. The Jirachi you brought out from Faunce was not taken away by Absol, so we have plenty of time.”

Ash opened his backpack and carried out the wild Jirachi that was fast asleep.

”What is going on?!”

Seeing Jirachi, Dian was instantly dumbfounded. She had seen the process of Jirachi being taken away by Absol, so how could it now...

Ash smiled and explained: ”This was all an act. The Jirachi that was taken away by Absol is a Pokemon I personally caught.”

”...”

Dian finally understood completely; it turned out Ash’s group hadn’t believed them from the beginning, and Butler had foolishly fallen for someone else’s trap.

After packing up briefly, Ash’s group set off for Faunce.

Meanwhile, Butler, who had set off first, was searching everywhere for traces of Absol and Jirachi.

”Damn Absol!”

Butler gritted his teeth in hatred toward Absol.

Yes, he shifted all the blame for his failed plan onto the Absol that had taken Jirachi away.

Seeing Butler anxious like a headless fly, Kirlia couldn’t help but remind him: ”Master, could they have returned to Faunce?”

”Faunce?”

One word woke the dreamer; Butler also remembered a mention Ash had made. Moreover, regarding the second half of the legend of Jirachi, the Jirachi that wakes up once every thousand years would eventually call upon the power of the comet to inject vitality into Faunce, used to continue Faunce’s prosperity.

Thinking of this, he immediately changed direction and headed straight for the place where he had found Jirachi.
